Ha ha ha ha!

The things has been going on very interesting @iLUG-D, at least recently!

I just wonder how people subscribe to these lists and then ask for
unsubscription. If they know how to subscribe, they should know how to
unsubscribe.

Besides, most of the information is available in the message
footers. Are the tech people really so du** ??

Hi Prashant,
Haven't you ever visited ilugd's website? Look @ left side, below the
events calender, there's a proper way to unsubscribe. rest apart,
dosn't rediffmail provides filters?

List admins, please put a notice that everyone gets during subscription,
warning about the the heavy message traffic! (if the notice is not
already there). Probably, that will stop such messages help people
like Mr. Prashant.

?? This guy subscribed on his own, he should be able to unsubscribe on his
own .. maybe taking a bit of guidance from us.

But please please do NOT advocate using mail filters at the webmail
providers to stop mail from coming. That is irresponsible behavior! You can
come in and subscribe to the mailing list, and instead of politely
unsubscribing, you would click on block mail or this is spam links on
webmail to stop mails from coming?

I am particularly pissed by this because it has burned me in the past. A
very prominent webmail provider had banned my mail server because one of
their subscribers decided to click on this is spam to stop mails coming
from a mailing list on my server. It took quite some effort to undo the
damage because we had to dig up proof that the subscriber had in fact
subscribed himself. And he was too lazy or irresponsible to go to the
mailing list address at the bottom of the mails to unsubscribe. We lost
mails for a number of days to that webmail provider before things weer
rectified.

So dont give this advice. You might end up banning ILUGD from that mail
server itself.

Sudev, I think I was unclear in my formulation.

I am OK with a 15-year lifespan of computers (on and off, I used mainframes
till 1994, and were they old!). I am just not convinced that you can look
at a baby a couple of years old, and predict how much its total expenses
 will be in 15 years.

Remember, Linux is just a couple of years old. Any data point on Linux, for
corporate deployment, which is older than that, is referring to a very
different beast. There is little point comparing RH7 with FC2, right? For
MS, we have a slightly longer set of time series, in that the crucial
difference is Active Directory, so we can extrapolate (or try to) 3 years to
 15. Not much better.

Do you plan IT expenses over a 15-year term? Heck, does your company have a
15-year plan? I think these studies are using too little data to
extrapolate too far. The maths is valid, the data is not.

[ilugd] punjabi translation

2004-10-03 Thread Supreet Sethi
A project has been started to translate, linux applications to punjabi,
by four engineers on voluteer basis.
project page:
http://punlinux.sourceforge.net/

But translation is a long drawn, low to no paying work. So no one knows,
till when will they keep the effort going.

So, I was wondering, if under linux-delhi banner, we could start punjabi
translation project, which will also contribute.

I have done 2 pot files for XFCE, and check them in.

Without prior discussion, I have already used the language team name as:
Punjabi Language Team [EMAIL PROTECTED] for the translations.

If there are more people interested, we could actually form a real team
for such a purpose.

Since the idea is mine. I am responsible for the logistics etc. (in
linux-delhi tradition)

hope to get some response

Supreet
