[ilugd] upuntu 5.04 Released
Ubuntu Linux 5.04, code name "Hoary Hedgehog", is now available. It offers the following new features: Simple and fast installation, live CD's for Intel x86, AMD64 and PPC, GNOME 2.10.1, Firefox 1.0.2, first class productivity software, and X.org 6.8.2. Read the announcement and the complete release notes. Hoary Hedgehog (5.04) Features * Simple and fast Installation Ubuntu comes on one single CD, with thousands of extra packages available online. The install is optimised for speed and simplicity. Ubuntu has excellent support for laptops (both x86 based and Powerbook / iBook PPC based), and can also be setup in a minimalist server configuration. It's a text based installer for maximum compatibility and speed, we think it's the fastest Linux install around. * Live CD's for Intel x86, AMD64 and PPC Ubuntu is the first distribution to offer Live CDs for all three architectures simultaneously. The new Live CD is easy to modify and update for custom Live CDs with your personal selection of packages. * GNOME 2.10.1 Ubuntu always includes the very latest stable GNOME and KDE. In Hoary we have GNOME 2.10.1, which features better performance and significant theme polish. You might also be interested in Kubuntu (**), the new community driven KDE-based Ubuntu, that is being released today. * Firefox 1.0.2 Ubuntu provides the Wall Street Journal's favourite open source browser, tightly integrated into the GNOME desktop environment. * First class productivity software Evolution 2.2.1.1 and OpenOffice.org 1.1.3 are just two. * X.org 6.8.2 X autodetection and laptop screen detection have had considerable updates based on community participation. The binary drivers from ATI and Nvidia are available and can be installed easily, though the system will use open source drivers by default. [ilugd] CERT India(?!) and Security
Greetings, Here's some food for thought for the hackers on the list - I came across it a long time back, was too lazy to ask on-list! 1) CERT India does'nt have a website anymore. http://www.cert-in.org.in/ doesn't seem to live anymore - or is it that I'm being blocked from every network I try to access it from? 2) Accessing PakCERT's site twice in a row using a Win2k box with Firefox (first) and IE (second) gave me a BSOD. The third time, I was fine. 3) As for policy and security, there are individual ERTs in the government, but which deal only with the security of certain networks. And with the absence of CERT India, there doesn't seem to be a centralized resource to obtain contact information for any kind of security issues. * India is not a member of the Asia Pacific Security Incident Response Co-ordination Working Group, it being the only major country in Asia which isn't. http://www.singcert.org.sg/apsirc.htm * The old framework for the ERTs seems to have had a breakdown. All search results for incident reponse, india, CERT and Computer Security lead nowhere. Anyone got leads?
