[ilugd] IACM vs New Horizon

2006-01-22 Thread Kunal Singhal
hi
guys i know this ques has come up earlier, but i still wanted to know

Which is a better inst. IACM, South Ex or New Horizon, JN Stadium
i enquired about RHCE at both these centres
IACM is charging 1 and NH is asking for 14000

just to mention, even for MCSE IACM is asking for just 9000 and NH for 17000

this is a huge difference
so, is New Horizon worth its price.
because they claim that students and faculties are leaving IACM and coming
to NH.

can u pls suggest.
sorry again for repeating a question.

thanks to all those who reply.

Kunal

The Linux For You december Issue I think has a article on Data Recovery
from crashed hard Disks. Its probably not for novices but gives a fairly
good over view of the effort involved and what could be done.

Sorry I don't know if there is a link to it on the net but you could
check out the magazine or the LFy website.

Can I edit ssh_config and remove the # in front of the line
Host *
# ForwardAgent no
big snip
# IdentityFile ~/.ssh/id_dsa
# *Port 22*
# Protocol 2,1

would this work

Though I think there is something amiss in this method.

Also would I need to similaly start other services ,
thanks

[ilugd] Setting up Hardware SATA RAID on Server

2006-01-22 Thread \Wah Java !!\
Hi ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org,

I'm setting up RAID (for the first time in my life) on a Server (mobo
SE7520BD2). I'm using its onboard SATA RAID. I'm installing Ubuntu Linux
5.10 (AMD64). I've seen some posts where it is mentioned that these
mobos are not having hardware RAID (i.e. BIOS emulates RAID). I've
configured my onboard RAID to RAID-1 (with two SATA disks) from BIOS.
This gets confirmed on my system, since GRUB sees only one SATA disk
(because GRUB uses BIOS Int 13h services to access disk and BIOS is
aware of my RAID) but Linux sees both SATA hard disks. So if it was true
hardware RAID, Linux should see only 1 SATA disk.

I was sure on this stuff until I've seen the Intel's Embedded Server
RAID Technology User's Guide, where they mentioned that driver update
disk needs to provided during installation to enable RAID support. I've
checked the DUD (driver update disk), it contains driver for linux
kernel 2.4.

So my query is if my motherboard supports software RAID, then what's the
use of Intel's DUD ? And if my motherboard supports hardware RAID, how
to enable it in Linux without moving to older one version ? Or should I
go with Linux supported software RAID as I've seen in some posts that's
it is great tooo ?

Thanx in advance,

Wah Java !!

P.S. My mobo has an EFI (Extensible Firmware Interface,
http://www.intel.com/technology/efi/) ROM, so is there any way to boot
an EFI enabled OS. Ubuntu Linux neither supports GPT style partitions (I
mean there is no option during installation). I'm new to EFI so just for
curiosity I want to know.

ok this actually means.. that you have ssh-client installed but not ssh server
To install ssh server package, you need to run this command line or
use synaptic/any apt tool to install openssh-server .

command
apt-get install openssh-server
/command

Hope this helps
cheers
