Can anyone plz helpout with Linpus version of linux. I need to chk the
battery backup of my Laptop in this version, but due to absence of a gui i'm
unable to, can anyone suggest some coomand that'll enable me to see the
 details about the battery.

Why Linpus? I'd dump it in favour of other more main line distors.

cat /proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/state
Will give what you are looking for if acpi is up and running. Also
check state and alarm in the same directory. and look at other
informations available in /proc/acpi directory. Have fun.

[ilugd] Meeting to discuss implications of the open culture of the Internet

2006-02-18 Thread Gora Mohanty
Hi,
An organisation called the Critical Action Center
in Movement (CACIM), and Sarai are jointly holding
an event to discuss the implications of the open
culture of the Internet to society at large. The
idea is to try to understand the strengths and
wekanesses of the open and cooperative approach
fostered by the Internet, and how this approach is
manipulated by governments and other agencies.
For example, recent efforts in China to suppress
access to Internet searches, the US government's
request to examine records of search engines, and
latent fears about the sheer magnitude of information
that Google has access to, will all be covered. In
addition, CACIM is interested in establishing contacts
with individuals that can help them make effective
use of Internet-based tools.
The meeting is tentatively scheduled for the
afternoon of the 2nd of March, and a formal announcement
will be posted later. Subramanya Sastry of NewsRack fame
was instrumental in getting the ball rolling on this,
and will be on the panel, as will probably someone from
CACIM. At the moment, we are interested in obtaining
contact information for a few more panelists, and in
any links to news stories, blogs, etc., in this area.
Please feel free to email me directly with these items.

Regards,
Gora

This is a document I helped prepare back in 2004, during the Irish
campaign against the introduction of electronic voting there. The
latter half describes of how we felt technology helped us to
participate in an openly-run political campaign, and how it might be
used in other organisations; it sounds like it might be relevant.

Re: [ilugd] XAMPP query

2006-02-18 Thread Shiv
hi,
what do you see when you right click on the places where the images ought to
be? this generally is the path to them e.g it might be
http://xyz.com/images/fn.gif
this will give you a clue as to whether the webserver is able to reach the
image either because it is directly in the web root or because of an alias
directive in httpd.conf

distribution of Apache+PHP+MySQL+ProFTPD etc)
via SSH on a server located outside. It doesn't give any errors on
start-up, but images fail to load. Images are broken links. Help? FN

PS: There's no error in the logs...
