does lspci show this device?
#cdrecord -scanbus would show if any RW device is found
If it does then try burning with some other software like k3b.
Nautilius>Go>Burn also uses cdrecord command line so it may be worth
your whil to "man cdrecord"

Re: [ilugd] [OT] Emails to SMS alerts

2006-03-02 Thread Shiv
hi,
what you need is an sms gateway.
most cellular service providers provide both hosted as well as standalone
(different pricing packages ) sms gateway.
if you're using nagios etc then you need to install the appropriate plugin for
sms notifications

why not just hook up an old mobile phone to the Monitoring system and
use that ?

doing alerts over the network ( like email / URL / webservice etc )
brings a massive disadvantage : that the system might be trying to
complain about the same network being out!

Shiv,

my point was that such a sms_gateway is of no use, if the network access
to the sms_gateway itself is going to be down!

I rarely use OpenOffice, but the answer to this was easy to find from
built-in OpenOffice help. Go to the page field in the status bar
(bottom left), right-click, and choose the desired bookmark from the
list.

but the beter way of handling this .. is to keep you home directory(I

Hi

Managed successfully to install Ubuntu Breezy. Was worried till it asked
that there were other OS's it recognized and said I should go ahead
and overwirite the MBR allowing for access to the other OS as well.

Thanks

But my problems don't end there

The T43 hangs when restarted from Hibernate, theres no sound

so am working on those now.

Ah! Forgot
Yes I did that so there was not much downtime couple of hours and the

First confirm that acpi is working. One simple way I try is by "cat
/proc/acpi/battery/BAT0/info" or "cat
/proc/acpi/thermal_zone/THRM/temperature"
Maybe gurus can point out better command here.

If I get intelligent output then instead of hibernate I do "sudo pmi
action sleep" and this works with additional benefit that the re-start
is much faster. And sound works!

Sleep does "Swap to memory" and keeps CPU on with minimal power so
that it can sleep for days. Hibernate is "Swap to disk" and does
almost a full start.
I do not have T43 but this has worked on some compaqs and acers.

As a matter of the fact which i believe is one need to use SMS gateway
when you have bulk of messages to be broadcast, for a fewer broadcats a
mobile with a GSM modem should do..
Secondly if i am not wrong mobile will do a serial broadcast and a SMS
gateway can render SMSs almost immediately to all mobile users .?
