Plainly speaking you are not likely to get help if you top post, use
non-English words or try to use abbreviation. You will do better if
you can spend some time reading list rules or ettiquetes. Two guys
before me have pointed this out in joking manner but since you ignored
this I am writing this in plain language for your consideration.

 Now on to the problem:
 1. Are you sure your pen drive is recognised as /dev/sda1 ?? Run as
sudo or root tail -f /var/log/messages before you connect the drive.
Now see the output when you connect There are other ways of finding
 the device, read the net.
 2. Once identified run as sudo or root mount -t vfat /dev/sda1
/mnt/mountpoint. Make sure that /mnt/mountpoint exists or run mkdir to
 create this.
 3. If you want automounting then you will have to dig in deeper and do
man fstab Understand how this works and then go ahead. Alternatively
find distro like Ubuntu that is already set to do so.

 Hope this is clear. Enjoy.

[ilugd] Fwd: Minutes of the first Ubuntu Indian LoCo Team Meeting

2006-03-05 Thread Gora Mohanty
Hi,
This is the last message regarding the Ubuntu Indian team that I
will be forwarding to these lists, other than one announcing the
formation of a new mailing list specifically for discussing Ubuntu
Indian topics. I thought that people might be interested in the
decisions we arrived at prior to the IRC meet with the Ubuntu Council
on Tue. afternoon.

Regards,
Gora

--- Baishampayan Ghose [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:
[...]
 Hello all,
An IRC meeting of all the members of the Ubuntu Indian Local
 Community
(LoCo) Team was held today from 1500-1600 Hrs on #ubuntu-in at
 Freenode.
Not many people were present at the meeting since it was called after
 a
 very short notice.
The members present at the meeting were --

 o Aanjhan R.
 o Baishampayan Ghose
 o Balaji N.
 o Gora Mohanty
 o Raj Mathur
 o soodp
 o Soumyadip Modak
 o Sudharshan S.
 o Tazz

The agenda of the meeting was --

o Defining our goals and strategies effectively to make a strong case
 at
   the CC-meeting
o To discuss and consolidate the list of activities that we would do
o Discuss on the structure of the organisation

We discussed on the above topics and other things at length and
 decided
on a few things, and we have kept a few things aside for later
discussion. I am providing a short summary of the decisions taken in
 the meeting below --

o We intend to provide support across India, both commercial, and
non-commercial. Work to be done through LUGs, free-software
organisations. Details to be worked out among us.

o We'll do Indic localisaton work, basically making sure that
 IndLinux
   work gets rolled into Ubuntu.

o Indic-specialized distros rolled out from Ubuntu. We work on
   developing and maintaining Indic packages.

o Create a CD containing packages which people without Internet can
simple pop in and install extra software to get a useful multimedia
 /
   development workstation.

o Provide closer contacts between Debian and Ubuntu, so software
development is shared between the two.

o We also decided that signing the Ubuntu Code of Conduct would be a
   pre-requisite for joining this organisation.

The Ubuntu Community Council Meeting will be held on the 7th March at
12:00 GMT. I hope we'll be successful in presenting our case in front
 of
the Community Council. After that, we have a lot more to do ...
 Have a nice day everybody,
 Regards,
 BG

P.S - Since we don't have our own mailing list yet, please spread the
message by forwarding this mail to the different [G]LUGs. :)

Well, that sounds like a personal decision to me. If you are willing
to miss out on email just because it is in Hindi, c'est la vie, if you
 will pardon my French.

The intention is to help the poster but if the seeker of help makes it
difficult for some one who can help then that some one would rather
help others who are defining their needs in clearly and easily
understood terms.

Hinglish and likes are okay for a line or two but the problems seeking
solutions should be posted in as widely understood language as
possible.

[ilugd] Lost my VT100 font!

2006-03-05 Thread noc ops
[Apologies to those of you who receive this note in multiple forums]

Ok, I placed this thread in the ILUGD section because I figure
linux folks would know most about it. If it's in the wrong place, please
tell me where I should move it.

I used to have a font available to all apps called VT100 which as you
guys may know is a monospaced font that's meant to be non-antialiased
and it doesn't hurt your eyes compared to other blurry and jagged fonts.
I loved that font. It looked great whether it was plain or bold. But a
few weeks ago I had a little problem. I had to reformat and reinstalled
my w/s.. So I did.

But now VT100 is missing. The font is gone.

Does anyone have any info on where to find vt100 font for linux?

Appreciate any help.

regards,
/virendra

am not sure that the original poster meant what you describe. Maybe he
meant if you are writing in a native language write using the original
langauge script and the fonts available in that language

If one were to read letters written in other languages (not romanized
versions) then one often sees similar use of nativized english (other
language words). To some extent this is visble even in regional language
newspapers.

Just because we can't read / write / speak other languages does mean we
lump all of them together and stick to one langauge beyond which we
think its the end of the world.

We need to make the effort to try it out in our own lives to start with.

This is not in South Delhi, but Sarai is available as a venue, given
adequate notice. It has wireless connectivity, projectors, etc., and
with the Metro access from Connaught Place, East and West Delhi is
pretty good. Let us know if you would like to do this at Sarai, should
