 Hi all,

Any suggestions on how to use an ageing PC (P2 333 MHz, 128 MB RAM,
10GB HDD, No CDROM, No Ethernet)?

Would trying to convert it to a data/media server for my home LAN (if
I attach a larger HDD and an ethernet card to it) be an exercise in
futility? Should I just trash it instead?

Probably have enough horsepower to

* make a backup pc (backuppc.sourceforge.net) - maybe after adding usb cards
for extra offsitednessosityisness TM
* make a recording studio? (add soundcards, Rs100 each 2nd hand)
* make a wan aggregator (ebox, pfsense) for SMEs or for yourself - needs lan
cards ( maybe Rs100 each second hand)

If you have enough slots you can surely do fun stuff with it.

 Hi Amrith,

You don't need to download these files but the packages which contains these
files. There is no single package which contains all the required files

Download the rpmforge-release rpm from the below link
http://dag.wieers.com/rpm/packages/rpmforge-release/

Once you download this link issue the below command

On Fedora box: yum install vlc

It will install vlc on your system. (Kmenu - Multimedia)

For XMMS

Click on the Kmenu and then on Multimedia.

Ankush

[ilugd] workshop at IIT Roorkee

2008-04-04 Thread Kenneth Gonsalves
Hi,

There is going to be a workshop on the 10th at IIT Roorkee to discuss
how best FOSS and OSS be integrated into the curriculum and utilised
in the University. The practice of NRC-FOSS in such meetings is to
invite people from the community to present FOSS. NRC-FOSS will be
represented at this meeting by Prof CN Krishnan, and we would like
some one from the community in Delhi to make the general presentation.

Audience: Senior professors and lecturers of the IIT

Presentation: About one hour covering FOSS/OSS and open standards.
The audience may not be FOSS-aware, but will certainly be computer
aware.

You may check out http://nrcfosshelpline.in/web/news/NW/ for some
reports of similar workshops held by us.

Any one interested may contact me offlist. We will look after travel
and accommodation.
