Hi,
My vote goes to Xandros with Easydesktop that is distributed with every new
Asus EEEPC (the highly acclaimed netbook series from Asus). It takes the cake
when it comes to user-friendliness and ease of use for first time users.. I
have heard people asking if this was M$ Windoze with a different theme :)

PS: I know most of people do not follow email niceties (mostly they
are not aware) but if you follow bottom post/in-line post style of
email conversations it becomes a whole lot easier to carry on
meaningful dialogue and you can snip out what is not meaningful too.
Most people just hit reply button and top post leaving prior message
appended uselessly at bottom. See if you can adopt this style and
persuade others. In case you are already doing this . great,
spread the message.

There are 28 threads in this discussion and nearly every guy tried to tell
you that go and check your facts correctly.

I REPEAT, you are not AWARE of GPL and TRADEMARKS.

And STOP TOP POSTING. That`s against ILUGD mailing list rules.

xandros has too much proprietary stuff to be free as in freedom in my opinion,
so I would avoid it if you want to avoid lock-in.

It may be a good idea putting an MS windows theme onto a linux system for people
who are switching over (there are plenty of such themes available).

The biggest hitch in Xandros appears to be their patent covenant with
Microsux, which will prevent them from distributing any GPLv3 software.
While the base of software licensed under GPLv3 is pretty small right
now, it will keep growing and eventually you will find that Xandros
doesn't include some of your favourite packages due to their (Xandros')
agreement with MS.

Like most discussions on this list, this thread is in danger of
meandering away from the OP's question regarding the Most user
friendly distro for non-techies. IMHO we should not be debating
whether the most user friendly distro also has FOSS components and so
on. We are just attempting to give our views on what linux distros
are easiest to adapt by people with little or no technical skills.

Adoption can't be considered a one-off process; when you adopt you also
buy into the distribution promoter's future, and if the promoter has
closed doors to their continual evolution it'd be a bad idea to adopt
their product, no?

Of course, if you're only looking at adopting a distribution for six
months then what you say may well be valid.
