Yes, latest build works fine. But for Flash sites and games, its too slow,
and screen flickers with blank overlayer, which is annoying to some extent.
Hope, google-chrome-dev will come out with really stable and outperforming

 Hi Rakesh

Probably you should work on APACHE-MYSQL-PHP combination u can install
 wamp/lamp according to your need.
Also you just need to make sure that your server (apache) is running and
haves a public IP address that way you will be able to connect to it from
outworld. Make sure that u keep a check on port number on which apache is
running, to help you connect. If you want to have free domain name you can
 try
 www.dyndns.com
if you are behind a router ( assuming u using internet from
airtel/mtnl/bsnl... ) ull be and thn u will need to forward ur port also

On windows you must have used wamp or xammp, you would have placed the .php
files in some directory like wamp/www or something similar. It is the
location where apache looks for the php files as it cannot randomly search
your hard disk for files ;-).

Similarly on Linux there are specific locations where apache looks for these
files. This may vary from system to system and even you may change it. Look
at /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. DO NOT try to change anything. It may leave
your apache unworkable. This location is often called 'Document root'.

Default locations on various systems:
1. Fedora/centos: /var/www/html
2. Ubuntu: /var/www
3. openSUSE: /srv/www/htdocs

You can contact me off-list also, if you found anything difficult to
understand.

Hi,
need of dns is that you wont be feeling much comfortable by telling your IP
address to everyone. Will you be rather thn name?. Also if your IP is
dynamic, lets say it changes everytime u restart your system thn ip will
change too
so that name u get from dyndns (name u choose to create, for ex say
www.rakeshkumar.dyndns.org , you can update it repeatedly to change to point
to your IP address or you can have tools to do that probably. I use HFS file
server to host files on my system and that automatically updates the IP for
dns server each time ip is changed.

+1 for Arun, the issue is most probably with the user who is firing the
script.

 Hi

I have facing a strange problem while uploading data file using FTP in cron.

I have made a script to upload 40GB approx tar.gz file to a FTP location.

When I run the script in console, it works fine and uploads the file without
 any issue.

When I schedule it in cron and make it run automatically, FTP upload fails
 with error :

426 Connection closed; Not Enough Disk Space. Aborting..

Are you sure the FTP user accounts being used for uploading the file in both
cases are same ? Also you can try enabling verbose login on your FTP client
and see where/how it is trying to upload ? and also verify the presence of
file at the desired location on FTP server when the cron job to make sure file
is being uploaded at right place.

From the looks of it, it seems your network card is not initialized/started.
You could try /etc/init.d/network restart
and /sbin/ifup eth0

dmesg output will be helpful.

Script is the same, if i run it as root in command prompt it works file, the
same script when I schedule through cron it shows error after uploading say
18GB data. Hence authentication works fine, location is correct etc.

Why is it that it works fine from command prompt and breaks in between with
error when I run the *same* script through cron.

Hi,
Some questions...
a) Is the destination directory the same as when you run it from terminal
b) How frequently does the cron script run?
c) Is the destination actually running out of space?
d) Are you just adding files or overwriting them?
e) Is the cron job being run as the same user from commandline?

You could also use the ethtool command to check for link state. e.g. when I run
this command without the cable being connected to my eth0, it gives me this--

Hi,
Some questions...
a) Is the destination directory the same as when you run it from terminal
yes, script is the same

b) How frequently does the cron script run?
Once a week

c) Is the destination actually running out of space?
No, if I run the script as is from commabd prompt, it just runs

d) Are you just adding files or overwriting them?
First deleting the file, then copying it

e) Is the cron job being run as the same user from commandline?
yes it is from root on both , actually from cron it copies says 18GB and then
gives disk full error.

 Any pointers?

If a script runs from the console but not from cron, 99% of the time
it's one of these two things -

1. The user which executes the cron script is not the same
2. The script depends on something in .bashrc (and .bashrc is NOT
executed automatically before running cron scripts).

Hi,

Some thoughts below:

--- 2009/12/1 narendra sisodiya narendra.sisod...@gmail.com:

\--

1. There are faculty in India who use Free/Open Source Software for
their work, without having to get stuck with any vendor or be
subjugated to restrictive third-party license terms.

2. What is required, IMO, is to help the other researchers who are yet
to hear of it, to use it to benefit their needs in the process of
creating more knowledge. This way, one can get F/OSS to be used in
different departments and domain streams, rather than trying to bring
all of them under a single department, or to pursue one.

3. You can make people from different backgrounds and departments to
_converge_ at user group meetings to answer queries, discuss on
topics, help with development work etc., while they continue to
represent their departments.
