[ilugd] Hello

2005-10-11 Thread Ankit Malik
[Ankit isn't on the list, so please CC any replies to him -- Raju]

Hello
I got your email from the ILUGD list. I am currently not a subscriber to it but
I wanted help. I translated Tux Paint to Hindi but Bill Kendrick, Tux Paint
Developer wants the translations again for the new version of Tux Paint [coming
soon].
I can't do it again partially due to lack of time and partially because I have
forgotten how to type in Hindi! So do you know anyone who would like to take
the initiative to help Bill Kendrick in this regard?

[ilugd] Tux Paint Translation

2005-10-11 Thread Ankit Malik
Hello

I was going nuts responding to individual volunteers for Tux Paint so I
thought it would be best to join the mailing list of this extremely helpful
community. I was really shocked/surprised to see three volunteers come up in
such a short time. Kewl!

So now we can discuss about the Tux Paint Translation thingie in this
thread.

I beg to differ. Bill gets excited everytime TuxPaint is accessible to more
kids [and adults]...so I bet he might be interested in getting TuxPaint in
kannada and tamil too.

I have read an article which said something similar, but nothing much
changed. I tried decreasing swappiness to 10, but experienced little
 changes.

hmmm...Maku can you elaborate how you got the job done??? I could do with
some changes, even though they may be little.

Another *drastic* soln. might be removing swap??? I have a question...what
happens if I dont have swap space and i run out of ram? does the system
hangs/locks or it waits for space to be emptied out?

The script will be of little help. You need to be able to send the

Hutch i think still accepts emails as [EMAIL PROTECTED] or something

be able to send a message to their gateway. I had done a lot of
searching for this solution and finally had to connect a phone to the PC
and buy SMS in bulk from our provider. Then we were able to send SMSs
  through the email server.

 Try this URL
 http://funsms.net/email2sms.htm

As far i have experienced it, HUTCH does allows the incoming email as
sms. IDEA just notifies its customer that he/she has recieved an email
should message back to to chk the mail.

With the URL (http://funsms.net/email2sms.htm), you can write simple
shell scripts for automating your SMS sending thing.

Also, you can use those free anonymous SMS sending sites
 (http://www.krify.com/cell/default.asp?referer=krifysms.com) make
shell scripts using 'curl' to POST your requests from command line.

 Happy coding...

does this work for Airtel ???

[ilugd] NEED help on sify :((

2005-04-20 Thread Ankit Malik
Hello

Some background : I have been running Ubuntu Hoary preview release and have
a sify broadband connection! Speed was ok and e'thing was fine until
today... :((

When I login, the procedure is something like this

[EMAIL PROTECTED] sudo sifyd sudo sifyconnect -l

username : [I enter it here
password: [I enter it here

and then if it logins it happily shows the amount of money left and etc.

but now I can't login i.e. after I enter my pw nothing comes after it...only
when I press Ctrl +c is when I get back to the prompt..

The problem is that I can happily PING !

I call up a SIFY ENGINEER , not the CTO but directly the SIFY ENGINEER, but
he didn't know how to cope up with Linux :((

So I take him to my bro's Windows XP machine. He has the same problem :((
Pinging is Ok but longing in with the graphical client gives BBERROR 003 or
103.. cant remember

so the sify engineer puts this at the command prompt

C: regsvr 326msxml.dll

Everything's fine now, the client logins immediately... :)

He reports that this is to turn off file sharing..what does that mean? I
think it means sharing files on LAN ???

Now how do I put that in Linux to enable my internet connection ...the sify
guy says he cant help so I guess i need to 'DIY' :(( ... Mine is a pure
Linux machine, i.e. I dont have any Windows...what do I do

/me bangs head on wall :((

2005-04-16 Thread Ankit Malik
Whoops... Here is a peculiar mail to the mailing list! Actually two people A
and B have hit a slight argument and IMHO the Court/Judiciary [read ILUGDE

A makes a Linux CD Selling [selling that is charging for medium!] site for B
and B says ok I will send you a distro for making the site and each five
orders!

Now 5 orders are due/complete and so B owes A a distro but now B says I JUST
OWE YOU A DISTRO AND NOT THE CD. SO YOU GOT TO COME TO MY HOUSE AND BRING
YOUR CDS AND BURN THE ISOS AND THEN THAT IS YOUR DISTRO...

DO YOU THINK B IS being fair?

P.S. hey not trying to degrade anyone or something like that, B I hope you
realise thatjust seeing ILUGDE's opinion :D

Re: [ilugd] Unable to instal OOo 2.0 Beta

2005-04-13 Thread Ankit Malik
hi...OO.o 2 probably didn't register itself in the KMenu/Gnome Menu... So
you need to hunt for it!!!

/opt is a good place to start

the directory will be called openoffice1.9 or 2.0 something and in that you
need to go to the program folder and there run simpress/swriter/etc..

but you need to hunt that folder...

what i did was open one of the rpms in file-roller [=valent in kde= ark] and
see where the stuff was being installed.

users and 5 in voice conference
 4. H323 stuff or Gnome meeting

 It should have following

 * Easy to setup
 * Least server resources
 * Easy to admin

Well at least we can have an dedicated IRC channel or jabber server or
something it would boon for person like me (too lazy to travel or
sometimes to busy to attend meetings )

Ubuntu Hoary 5.04 Final Release is out... It is plain FANTASTIC.

Also Canonical has come with Kubuntu for KDE lovers.

Go order yours for free @ http://shipit.ubuntulinux.org ! They will
surely send within a month...although if you order loads, a trip to
the Customs Office maybe required ;-) !

For existing users of

a) Ubuntu Warty
do the following

$ sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

Replace 'warty' with 'hoary' [without the quotes]

and then

$sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

b) Ubuntu Hoary Beta/Preview Release/Release Candidate x etc.

$sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

BEST of LUCK

Hi all linux users guru's ,

First of all i want to thank u all for the wonderful suggestions and indications that
led to the solution of my problem.here i want to thanks Mr.. Ritesh for the guidelines
that he had given me .

Regarding linux there is another problem which i recently faced :
When ever i booted to linux i had to manually typed mount commands for mounting my
windows partition (c,d e) again to access the windows partition . Is there not any
file(s) that do this i.e. that auto mounts all the windows partition automatically
whenever i booted to linux so that i had not to type all the commands manually for
mounting the windows partition again and again.

Thanx in advance to all the linux users and guru's for giving me the solution of my
problem

ur's faithfully
Utsav Handa
