Re: [ilugd] Stripped down CentOS 5.3

2009-05-25 Thread Devendra Laulkar

Hi,

I want to uninstall/Strip down the CentOS with all packages
 except the
below. could someone please advise or point me to the right
 approach.
What essentials packages i need to keep.

Start a new installation of CentOS, on package selection screen, select
Customise packages. Select the packages that you want. If some packages are not
there in the default installation, you will have to install them later.
After you are happy with your work, create an image so that you can install the
same system on multiple systems.

HTH,
Devendra Laulkar.

Re: [ilugd] How to increase /root partition size in Ubun tu 8.04

2009-05-19 Thread Devendra Laulkar

Hi,

Is there any way I can increase /root partition's
 size after
   installation, using gparted?

gparted will do this fine. Next time, consider
 implementing LVM to
  resize partitions on-the-fly.

Do you recommend putting / on a LVM device?

Should not be a problem. AFAIK, You need a separate /boot on a non-LVM
partition though.

Re: [ilugd] amarok on ubuntu wants to initialize ipod

2007-11-30 Thread Devendra Laulkar
Hi,

P.S. In any case, it is possible to restore the iPod
to factory
defaults erasing everything on the disk. Even if the
initialization
goes awry you can always connect it to iTunes and
restore it.

Not necessarily. My ipod was rendered unusable for
about 3-4 months before I could get it working.
Basically I used amarok on Ubuntu to transfer some
files , and later as soon as I used to connect the
Ipod to a win machine, Itunes used to crash. Later on,
even amarok stopped detecting the ipod. Even gtkpod
did not recognize the it.

Finally I used some freeware and deleted all the songs
from the ipod, and now I can use it using gtkpod.

Moral of the story - Stick to one application for
transferring any songs.

Which Acer model you are referring to? I have my Acer with ACPI working

2.6.9 onwards..? Don't know about older kernels. I got it working on
Debian, FC3, and FC4. Never tried on other distros.

Acer 5002 series running on a 2.6.12 kernel.
The 5000 series has a problem I think... Not all acer laptops, mea culpa.

Did you try running any live CD version?

Yup, I have tried various distros. I have installed Knoppix 4. I have tried
FC4, OpenSuse, Mandriva 2006, SimplyMepis, Ubuntu, and other live distros
(EduMorphix etc).

Re: [ilugd] Help required with LinPus version

2006-02-19 Thread Devendra Laulkar
Hi,

Can anyone plz helpout with Linpus version of linux. I need to chk the
battery backup of my Laptop in this version, but due to absence of a gui
i'm unable to, can anyone suggest some coomand that'll enable me to see the
 details about the battery.

Linpus is a a very minimalistic version of gnu/linux shipped with acer
laptops. I suggest that you replace it with a mainline distro like Mandriva
or something.

However, Acer laptops have problems regarding acpi. There is an kernel patch
called acer_acpi, but I could not get it working. So you won't be able to
check out the battery status. If you do get it working, please let me know.
