Hi, As you all know Anna University has offered two FOSS elective subjects in the engineering and MCA streams. The syllabi for this has been drafted by NRC-FOSS and the textbook on elective 1 has been published. We are now writing the text book on elective 2. The draft of what is done so far is on our wiki here: http://nrcfosshelpline.in/code/wiki/FossElectiveTwoBook Please go through what has been done and add your contributions: 1. Correct spelling 2. Correct code errors 3. Add examples and explanations In any place where there is a heading and no text, feel free to add text. please mark your corrections and add your name also, you will be credited in the book if you do so. You do not need to log in to edit the wiki. Please help us make the text book a great success. [ilugd] NRC-FOSS is looking for project scientists
hi, no apologies for not tagging this as [commercial][OT] because it is not. NRC-FOSS at AU-KBC, MIT campus, Anna University Chennai is a project funded by the DIT for the pupose of development of FOSS in India. In addition to propagation of FOSS, we are now trying to build a world standard academic and research programme centred round FOSS. Backed by proven expertise of the AU-KBC centre in the fields of mathematics, cryptography, pattern recognition, life-sciences, wireless and bio-informatics, we are building certificate, diploma and postgraduate programmes centred around FOSS on one side and building and releasing FOSS applications in these fields on the other side. We invite interested people to join us. Details of the posts are at: http://nrcfosshelpline.in/web/full/12/AN/ No, we dont offer multinational salaries. Yes, we believe in academic freedom, a relaxed atmosphere, 24/7 working labs and offices, no dress code, intellectual stimulation. (And, yes, again, this *is* happening in a Govt of India Project). Our goal is to produce FOSS code and train people to do this - and enjoy doing this. Our motto is 'Foss is Fun'. We are starting up a major project involving projects and mentors and have got so far: 1. Project must be selected by the student (he need not originate it) but he must show some thoughts about it on a wiki page 2. Mentor gets to choose if he wants to be involved with the student after interaction through mail/wiki/chat 3. From the outset, the projects *must* be hosted on a repository open for reading by the public. And the work on the project *must* be done through that repository. 4. The student/mentor or whoever may retain copyright, but must release the code through some os license or the other, and the code must remain in the repository, finished or not, even after the process is over. 5. The student is expected to join the appropriate mailing lists and inhabit theappropriate IRC channels, and, ideally, the mentor will guide him through these and not privately as the community at large would benefit. Was their another FA Linux > Package at that time in India/Asia-Pcific (as their site claims)? i stand corrected - probably the first in india. But certainly not first in the world as declared in red letters on their site. Maybe if they remove the 'first in the world' it would be ok. But anyway in the original post, they had just said 'first' without qualifying the region - which is still not true. -- regards kg http://www.livejournal.com/users/lawgon tally ho! http://avsap.org.in ಇಂಡ್ಲಿನಕ್ಸ வாழ்க! ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

This is simply not true. Incidently, from a functional view point it has much more functionality than avsap. (I attended a talk and demo on kalculate recently and that is the source of my information). For that matter. And apart from avsap, i am keenly interested in any effort for development of FA open source packages and will continue to react to any post on the topic. If you think that this is just to 'promote' avsap that is your problem not mine. Further, even a commercial post has to stick to facts - i have every right to point it out - there is such a thing as 'truth in advertising'. -- regards kg http://www.livejournal.com/users/lawgon tally ho! http://avsap.org.in ಇಂಡ್ಲಿನಕ್ಸ வாழ்க! ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/
