2004-06-09 Thread amitabh pandey

Hello Sir,

CVS: - It works on client server concept so both can reside on the same
machine or different machine.

A2- Goggle it out ... solution depends on the various factors. like what
you need to cluster? What do you want to achieve?

 Hi all,
I've got mplayer installed. Works like a charm.
Plays all the dat files and

Installing Xine after the installation of Linux is
 painful and difficult.
Even PCQuest guys could not get it to work in their

 to remove it perforce.
Any way, PCQuest Linux 2004 is the recommended OS

 Hi LL
since i already have several distros installed on
 my pc and have a
neatly configured grub, i chose *not* to let
 pcqlinux2004 install any
bootloader or make any entries in MBR, during the
 installation setup.

once the install was complete and the pc booted, i
 got a grub stage 2
error that kept looping. yeouch! there go all my
 distros and all my
  data!

The solution is very simple install the grub or Lilo
 where you kept /boot of
 you PCQ2004.

My Main distro is SuSE 9.0 when I install PCQ2004
 I choose the advance
option for boot loader install it on /hdb1 coz I
 assinged /hdb1 as /boot of
PCQ 2004 where as the SuSE's grub sits on /hda/mbr

SO I think you do not have to edit the grub entries
 manually or use knoppix to
 fix it.

 Thanks LL.

don't bother with cdr files. just convert them to
ps or eps, or tiff or
jpg (if they are pixeltones) and open them in
 sketch if vector, or
  cinepaint if pixeltone.

That is the point. The guys around are so used to
 Coreldraw that the
incoming files and outgoing files have to .cdr
This situation is quite like office applications...I
 still need to
interact with the world so need to be able to read

[personally, i don't think corel was ever a great
 graphics package, it
just became 'rather popular' in india due to
 certain 'condusive

Yeah and that is how most of the software has become
 ingrained in to
 usage.

Anyways will try to demo sodipodi etc. to this
friend and see if he can
 be converted to Linux cause.

Subject: [ilugd] Speeding up FLOSS adoption in India
 To: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

 Dear all,

I am writing a note detailing projects that can
 speed up the adoption of
FLOSS in India and would like to hear from the list
 members on this
 subject.

I would like to create a sharply defined list of
 say, ten specific
problems which students from engineering colleges
 can be asked to solve.
Ideally, these problems should be solvable by a
 group of people within
3-6 months so that these students can achieve a
 tangible goal.

Some of the suggestions I have received so far have
 been interesting.
 These include:

   * Developing an open source tool like VM Ware
 that can run both
Windows and Linux off the same CPU
   * Developing an open source VoIP product like
 Skype
   * Getting Internet Explorer working
 (natively?) on Linux (This
will be of particular help in increasing the
 penetration of
Linux in banks since many banking
 applications, though browser
based, are optimized to work on Linux)
   * Reverse engineering Tally file formats and
 developing an open
 source financial accounting package (or
 getting Tally to
 work--natively--under Linux)
   * Developing translation mechanisms for
 converting Internet
content from English to Indian languages and
 from one Indian
 language to another
   * Developing tools like Ximian Connector to
 connect to Micosoft
 Exchange server etc.

If anyone can add to this list, I shall be grateful.

 Regards,

 Venky

 This one was hilarious. :))

I have started developing a sense of humour about

one day someone breaks into my servers, and turns
 humour into tragedy).

I think it is safer to try using sudo. You will
 have

  Just be very careful

But is there any mechanism for secure setuid in php
 as in perl??

 No.

 Only if you're root.

And if you become root with a PHP script you're in
 deep trouble
 anyway.

Oh wait! If you use PHP you're in deep trouble

I know this i was just exploring a weird idea.
 Blame
my insomia for such questions. BTW any pointer to
 any
ready made perl script for adding system users. i
 just
want to cross check it with a perl script i had
 written(security concern)
