To follow up on the possibility of having a meeting of Solr folk,
given that attendance at FOSS meetings in NCR have been slowly
growing thinner, it might be a good idea to combine an initial
meeting with a proposed meetup of Python people this coming Sun.,
the 5th, with a tentative time of 5pm. There are three
possibilities for the venue---Dilli Haat, Howzzat (the Gurgaon
micro-brewery), and JNU. If you are interested in Solr, and/or
Python, please vote for your preference at
http://www.snappoll.com/poll/339555.php by Wed. People interested
in other FOSS areas are also most welcome.

Regards,
Gora

Hmm, your ideas intrigue me, and I wish to subscribe to your

2010-08-21 Thread Gora Mohanty
Hi,

Thank you for all the responses. It seems that there is
some interest in the area. We can go ahead, and meet up,
probably along with a ILUG-Delhi meeting. For the people
who proposed meeting in Oct., we can have another one then.

So, I would like to ask for responses to two questions
for the meeting:
* When? The coming weekend (27th/28th) should work, but I
might be out of town. Will know by Tue. or so.
* Where? Choices are Delhi (probably JNU), or Gurgaon (a
company there for whom we are doing some Solr work have
volunteered their premises, but I would have to check on
whether these are available on the weekend). As a plus
point (for some), the office is right across the highway
  from the Howzzat micro-brewery.

Regards,
Gora

This sounds very interesting!

I've built a few search centric websites, one of which (indianlawexpert.com)
was non commercial and free (as in beer). It seemed fairly promising before
the forums were heavily hit by spam and I had to shut down the search engine
as I switched providers. I stopped working on the project once I discovered
indiankanoon.org (which is excellent). I'd love to revive the project with
some help from the community.

Sadly, I won't be able to be in Delhi before October so if there are any
meetings around that time, I'd love to attend.

I am not usually in the target geographic area normally, but will be
there for a few days in late October this year. A bit far away still.

I'm quite keen on 'search' as a whole and language/trending in fulltext
as a specific niche. Have worked with a dozen odd commercial offerings
and atleast six different open source fulltext engines. Presently
working on a solr based system resource trending plugin for collectd (
mostly because I am lazy and dont want to write either the rrd or UI
components myself.

[ilugd] Calling all Apache Solr/open-source search engine users in Delhi/NCR

2010-08-18 Thread Gora Mohanty
Hi,

Seeing as how search has now become an integral part of many
websites, and is among the most interesting areas of still-emerging
technologies, at least IMHO, I think that it would be interesting
if we could have a meet-up of people in the Delhi/NCR region who are
interested in this area.

Please follow up to this message, ideally with a brief
description of any work that you have done in this area. Hopefully
we can arrange a meeting for this weekend, else for the next.

Gora
