[ilugd] FC4 woes

2005-11-05 Thread abhishek jain
Dear Friends,
I have some time back installed FC4 but since then mine PC performance
is not good i mean it is slow on opening and using all applications
.Also some applications fail to work properly .
I also have latest hardware with AMD 64 bit (2800+) , 512 MB RAM , ASUS
Motherboard etc. Also the swap is not a problem as i have made it to the
size of 1 GB during the installation of FC4.
I believe that there are no extra useless services running.
I have googled but could not found an answer.
I think that is the problem due to AMD or that mine kernel etc are not
latest. Mine friend told me to update and rebuild the kernel.
Will that help. I am a newbie and does not know how to do so .
Also there is another problem FC4 does not detect mine inbuilt LAN Card.
I also does not know how to make it listen i have dual boot with Windows
and the LAN Card is detected by windows XP SP2 . I do not have the
driver for Linux and nor do i know how to install the drivers for linux.
So can anyone help me regarding the performance problem of FC4 and the
LAN detection problem.
In case you need any more information pl reply i will provide that.
Thanks for your time and effort.
Pl. help me.
Expecting a reply soon.

Ankur, Have a survey, before you say something, I
mentiond First Indian Web-Dev(Development) company. We
works on Designing as well using Gimp, QFlash, F4L
etc. Most of the Web-Dev companies are based on Mac
or Windows, but i hadn't heard about any company
working fully on linux. The Indian Web-Dev companies,
who uses Linux, are not in designing, while thats not
the case with us. So please have a survey before
saying something.

Right, We takes project based on Win based
applications as well, but we don't develop it in our
offices, we have a partner company, we outsource
Windows based works to them.

Default FC4 is heavily updated. Plase make sure yours is updated. I did an
installation last week and it required 730MB worth updates!!

Check out your hardware with some other distro as well. LiveCD Knoppix or
Ubuntu is a good idea.

Watch what you are saying!

You signed up for this mailing list yourself! Nobody can subscribe you to this
mailing list other than you! Dont call this spam! If you want to unsubscribe,
go to http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd, or whichever way you
subscribed in the first place and help yourself.

I just have had enough of people who will subscribe themselves to mailing
lists without knowing what they are. Instead of politely unsubcribing
similarly, they would simply press the "This is spam" button of their webmail
to block the list mail address, and in some cases ban the email server of the
mailing list.

[ilugd] FC4 was very slow - problem and its subsequent solution

2005-07-15 Thread Amit Sharma
hi,
i just installed FC4 (complete) and was amazed to see
that slow speed of its booting and performance of the
GUI. it was very slow.

i tried to figure out the reason and found that SWAP
partition was 0 (zero).

finally i found that in /etc/fstab where the swap
partition was defined had some script. i replaced the
script with the normal line ( i copied it from
/etc/fstab of FC3).

after reboot, all works fine now!!
