[ilugd] Hosting Website site Home!!
[ Why are you stealing the "DLINK 502T DSL modem on Linux" thread ? In case, you have no clue what hijacking the thread means, see http://mm.bbspals.org/general/message-recycling.html for a nice explanation (with nice figures). I have started a new thread for you. lease use it for further discussion ] I am planning to host my website from my home itself Initial I tried this with tata indicom ...it gave static IP per session alright ..but whenever I booted I had different IP..also tata indicom is too expensive for unlimilted usage (@128 is 6000 mo) ... I am considering hathway(they claim to give static IP) or airtell which one is better .If you have any experience of similar type Dynamic IPs are just one of your problem, and one that can be easily solved by using a service like Dyndns http://www.dyndns.org/services/dyndns/ . However, have you considered the problem of security ? Will you be able to lock down your system ? Next is the problem of availability. Will you be able to run your system 24x7x365 ? Just think of the electricity bill (or do you have an alt. plan on how to escape the electricity bill ;-) ). Next is the problem of bandwidth. Unless you are just dishing out static html pages with only text, your visitors will face long delays while the page loads. ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/

I am not sure if this mail is applicable to you... but anyway... Have you explored the idea of external hosting - like the one that I am using gives me 500MB space, 2GB monthly transfer, CGI, SSI, PHP (running Apache). The cost is only USD 35 per year. Oh yes... it includes registering domain name also. That means less than Rs. 1600 per month. Also, I can created unlimited number of users and sub-domains. Managing subdomain, if you want, can be pain if you do yourself using Apache. Yes, if you plan to use DB, if provides MySQL with one time USD 50 setup fees. I use the hosting from mister.net. My websites are http://www.mastergaurav.org and http://www.mastergaurav.net Happy Hacking, Gaurav Vaish http://mastergaurav.blogspot.com -- On Fri, 21 Jan 2005 16:53:45 +0530, Gaurav Prasad <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi list, > I am planning to host my website from my home itself > Initial I tried this with tata indicom ...it gave static IP per session > alright ..but whenever I booted I had different IP..also tata > indicom is too expensive for unlimilted usage (@128 is 6000 mo) ... I afaik if yu get the internet pack it is approx 1500 per month+phone rent and unlimited net usage. speeds i'm not sure of > am considering hathway(they claim to give static IP) or airtell > which one is better .If you have any experience of similar type > ...pl lshare > I am located in NOIDA .. just check about the services of these operators in your area as i think these services are good or bad depending on the location in which they're setup. also ensure if yu're going to get a static IP then will the hathway people allow incoming access to port 80? also, using tata indicom dynamic IP connections yu can use services such as dyndns.org which give yu a client installed on your system along with a URL (e.g. mydomain.dyndns.org). so each time yu connect your ip would be updated on dyndns.org's server and people can access your site using mydomain.dyndns.org \|||/ (o o) ooO-(_)-Ooo- | vivek| GPG Key:| | [EMAIL PROTECTED]| http://exain.net| || | Registered Linux User: #305493 | ( _ ) _| | | |_ (___| |___) ___ ilugd mailinglist -- ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org http://frodo.hserus.net/mailman/listinfo/ilugd Archives at: http://news.gmane.org/gmane.user-groups.linux.delhi http://www.mail-archive.com/ilugd@lists.linux-delhi.org/
