What is the output of the command lspci ? Is your card being
recognized by linux ? If yes, then try e100 or eepro100 as the driver
with modprobe. Atleast one of them should work depending upon the chip
being used in the card. If you are unable to get the card detected
manually, enable kudzu and then reboot the system. It detects these
Intel NICs and will also make an appropriate entry in /etc/modules.conf
(or /etc/modprobe.conf in case of 2.6 kernels).

Hi Brian,

Check /etc/issue.net. Mine says:
tigerbox:/home/stripes# more /etc/issue.net
Debian GNU/Linux testing/unstable

 hello svlugers,

This is a stupid question, or it seems so to me, but I don't know how
 to answer it.

If I know a system has linux installed but don't know what flavor, how
can I tell which it is (ie. Suse, RedHat, Debian, etc.)?

 Thanks,
 Brian.

You might want to try pptpclient
(http://pptpclient.sf.net). It allows use of MPPE (M$
Point to Point encryption) as a kernel modulde, if
your VPN server needs it.

Works rather well too!

  Hi Tanveer,

How to do it in Linux. Is there a ready VPN
 client

You can use vpnc. The only issue is that re-keying
 is
not supported. So, your VPN is connected for 8 hrs
 at
a stretch and then you will have to reconnect it.

I tried using VPNC. But got confised at what all to
 give. In windows I just
give a username and password. I trid kvpnc also and
 in the connection type I
filled in PPTP. But apart from my company server IP
 it also has network
etc., fields which are not there when I configure
 connection for windows.
Any HOWTO available for the same?
