Thank you Dan, and Bruce too, for the feedback. I'll probably check in again some time after the next OS X comes out. Actually, I asked because the topic came up in the ReunionTalk forum. For the good folks there, Time Machine seems to have improved over time. http://www.reuniontalk.com/showthread.php?t=5621 Al Poulin -- You received this message because you are a member of the iMac Group, a group for those using Apple iMacs and eMacs. Given that the screen is a piece of glass in these models, and is actually pretty easy to remove (all it takes is some suction cup tools like what glass workers already use) I'd not be surprised to find folks willing to etch or sandblast the glossy screen into matte-ness. It would likely be expensive and unless you took it to Apple for removal and re-installation, would probably foo your warrantee (and possibly even then, though you could argue that a surface treatment of the screen couldn't possibly affect the interior), but it would work. -- Bruce Johnson "Wherever you go, there you are" B. I had one of these and loved it. It ran perfectly for about two years, and then started to get cranky. Over the final six months I owned it, Apple replaced the optical drive, all the fans, and the video card (Hooray for AppleCare!). Finally they threw up their hands and gave me me a new aluminum iMac. I used it for substantial periods with 2GB, 3GB, and 4GB installed. I strongly recommend at least 3GB; it seemed to make a difference. The tiny extra amount of addressable memory you get from the 4th GB did not make any difference that I could notice. Likewise, the upgrade from the 7300 GT video to the 7600 GT was not noticeable for any of the work I did (surfing, office productivity, watching HDTV through an Elgato Hybrid). Fastest matte-display 24-inch iMac
I would like to buy the fastest 24-inch iMac made with a matte display. My understanding is that this is the late-2006 White iMac with the optional upgrades to a 2.33 GHz T7600 Core 2 Duo and a GeForce 7600-GT video card. I don't think any of the AL or later iMacs had matte displays as an option. If I’m mistaken about this, I would appreciate being informed. Any comments or warnings about this model would also be welcome. Any experiences with taking the RAM to 4 GB instead of the specified 3 GB max would be particularly interesting. I followed the everymac.com link on this subject to here http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac/faq_cd/imac-intel-how-to-upgrade-memory.html but it didn't provide enough detail. I’ll be putting a WTB post on lemswap soon (purchase time frame is early April) but I won't object if a potential seller emails me directly about one that meets the above criteria. Cheers to all for their contributions to iMaclist and lemswap.
