Should not have, but did. That’s the mystery.

Actually, it’s my older computer that won’t print properly. My newer laptop
hasn’t been updated, so that will have to be my photo printer, which is
annoying, since it is much easier to edit photos on the old iMac with the 24 in
screen.

Apple is making life as difficult as possible for those of us who don’t want to
buy all new stuff every year or two. If you update software, you’re hosed. If
you don’t update software, you’re incompatible or vulnerable. And every new
Apple hardware design is something I like less than the previous version - I
really do want an optical drive, and to be able to open up, repair, and upgrade
my computer.

All that Apple does is package the vendor-supplied drivers into a single driver
bundle, so if HP hasn’t updated the driver since 2006, the driver in the newly
supplied Apple package should not have changed (if it was included at all).
Apple’s web page for the driver update SHOULD list all the printers included in
the package.

However, if HP hasn’t updated the driver in ten years, that means the printer

Actually, HP was surprisingly helpful with this, and I even got to talk to a
service rep on the phone.  It turns out that HP hasn’t issued a driver update
for this printer since 2006.  This update was all Apple.

And then there was iOS 9, but that’s another rant.

In the old days version tracker had 3rd party printer programs for Mac.

Version tracker is now CNET. You could look at their downloads.
Maybe there is something there to help.

Re: Digest for imaclist@googlegroups.com - 2 updates in 1 topic

2016-02-26 Thread Stuart Saunders
For a few years here in Asia we have been fortunate to have the Epson L
series printers - these have factory ink tanks, so you just refill from
bottles.

They are becoming available around the rest of the world now - worth a
looksee - I am on my first A4 (L355) (2 years to go through 1st set of
inks) and third A3+ (L1800) (Commercial printing, not kind to it -)

Ink works out very economical, and as you refill before empty, you never
get air in the lines or printhead.
