Re: Intel iMac Startup Freeze
I want to back up but my drive is too small; I have a 500GB G-Tech drive on order but it won't arrive much before mid March, from Amazon. I can drag a few music and photo files over in the meantime. We always buy AppleCare but this iMac didn't have it and Apple wouldn't let me add it. I have just gone through this with my late-2006 iMac, which is under AppleCare. After three unsuccessful attempts to repair my iMac over the last four weeks (attempts that included a new optical drive, a new video card, and a new motherboard), Apple is throwing in the towel and sending me a replacement. FYI, one thing I have learned (besides the value of AppleCare) is that inability of your machine to boot does not necessarily mean that you have no access to the hard disk. Mine will no longer start up off the internal HD, an external cloned HD, or the install DVD, but it will start up in FireWire Target Mode, and I was able to copy all my files off before handing it over to FedEx. --~--~-~--~~~---~--~~ You received this message because you are subscribed to Low End Mac's iMac List, a group for those using G3, G4, G5, and Intel Core iMacs as well as Apple eMacs. Well there I was, thinking the problem had gone away, when I got another freeze this morning, then again this afternoon (first time this has happened) while I was looking at some photos in an email. Total freeze, so that I had to restart with the On button again. /sigh Regards Susan On Feb 23, 12:32 pm, Simon Royal m...@simonroyal.co.uk wrote: Susan Hope that sorts it.
