I had the same problem until I called Imail tech support and we figured out, that in my case the cause of why the white list and active rules were ignored was, that I had selected "forward to address" with [EMAIL PROTECTED] next to it in all my spam filtering options in the "Action to be taken" window , instead of "insert x-header" and a Related Rule in the active rules page.
So, when Imail considered a message to be spam, it forwarded to the spamfilter's designated email address immediately and therefore ignored any other active rules or even the white list.
if you use the options of "insert x-header", the final routes of messages will be decided by the white list and the active rules if any.

I agree that Ipswitch needs to get cracking on fixing the issue, but if
you want it to stop NOW then you can use IMGate/postfix or BlackIce
Server with the configs that were posted to the list some time back.
Both methods worked great and Imail is now much happier (we eventually
stuck with postfix gateway). I know many people don't want to have to
set up a linux/bsd gateway, so BlackIce is an alternative that does
work. I couldn't wait for Ipswitch to figure out the problem (which
they still haven't done, I guess).

Postfix on FreeBSD can be set up on a low-end box (ours is 300mhz/190MB
RAM/10GB HD). We do not use Len's IMGate config, we prefer to let
Declude/Sniffer do all the spam filtering. It rejects well over
100,000
dictionary attempts per day (we only actually process less than 20,000
in Imail, of which close to 80% are flagged as spam). In comparison,
Imail was needing daily reboots before the gateway was put in, and it
is
running on dual 2.4Ghz/1G RAM/separate mirrored spool, system and
mailbox drives. It isn't ideal (again, Ipswitch should fix the
problem), but if you can't wait for Ipswitch, then you need to do one
of
the above or dump Imail.

How long does it run before needing a reboot? not consistent but ram
usage grows above 100 MB's in about 2 hrs

for 8.2 you should see memory between 6 and 20 mb for smaller installs
but it can grow to 60 - 120 mb for a very very active server where many

users are sending very large attachments. But the mem usage should
drop back down to between 10 and 20 mb during low usage times.

memory never drops down

BTW, is there a 'nobody' alias on one of your domains? Or do you have a

lot of mail going to one mailbox? This could cause temporary spikes in

mem usage if that account is receiving mail with a lot of attachments.

only on our domain

Another issue that I have seen behavior like that in testing 8.2 is the

spool drive needing a chkdisk to clean up bad indexes which can be
caused by killing a process while it is creating or deleting a file.
The issue is that if the service cannot create the spool files the
threads will block trying to do that and you will see memory grow, the
thread count grow beyond your Max setting (default 60) and the server
once all the worker threads are blocked, does not do anything until you

kill it. But killing it does not solve the problem, running chkdsk /r
does in this case. Defragging is good and should be done often but
does not address this particular issue.

I had the same problem until I called Imail tech support and we figured
out, that in my case the cause of why the white list and active rules
were ignored was, that I had selected "forward to address" with
[EMAIL PROTECTED] next to it in all my spam filtering options in the
"Action to be taken" window , instead of "insert
x-header" and a Related
Rule in the active rules page.
So, when Imail considered a message to be spam, it forwarded to the
spamfilter's designated email address immediately and therefore ignored
any other active rules or even the white list.
if you use the options of "insert x-header", the final routes
of messages will be decided by the white list and the active rules if
any.

Hi everyone,

I just started to implement the built-in spam filter in Imail. I
downloaded the latest zip file and was looking through the URL
domain
blacklist text file and the company I work for, Xanga.com, is on
it.
We don't send out spam, we send out email subscriptions because
our
users signs up for them. I'm curious how did my company ended up
on
there. I think I read it somewhere that Ipswitch doesn't
maintain the
list. I just want everyone to know that we don't send out spam
and
don't block us please.

Thanks,

Jon

Has anyone had issues having emails with xml attachments not
arrive through your iMail server?  To test it, last night I renamed the

Jon,

Just sending email to this list will do nothing to get you
removed from the blacklist!

Thanks,

Jon

RE: [IMail Forum] OT: Free or extremly cheap desktop AV software

2005-05-20 Thread Mark Pipkin

I would use NOD32.  We have been
running a test on our TS server.  Why are we planning on switching from
Symantec?  Simple no over head.  Between all the major AVs it was NOD32
or a Russian AV that I can’t remember the name off the top of my head.
Symantec scans network drives and for 50+ users on a TS server all on the same
drive and 50+ connections from users + Symantec trying to scan those 50+
connections that is a lot of traffic that there is not a need for.  It is
slow when it is scanning files, and just other things.  The price is nice
at 17$ per client if buying 50 server/workstations with a 2 year agreement.

Does anyone know of free or extremely cheap Windows Desktop
Software.  I checked with CLAM Av, but you need to have a server running
in order for the Windows version to work.

Any ideas?

RE: [IMail Forum] My company is in the URL domain blacklist

2005-05-20 Thread Jim Comerford
I wonder if anyone has a good "whitelist" to share. Using antispamseeder
with the -l -e switches you can exclude urls from the list. There is a
utility by curt turner on ipswitch site which helps do the same But
removing all of the bad listings in the Ipswitch blacklist takes a lot of
time. If someone has already "fixed" the ipswitch list and has a
comprehensive whitelist it sure would be a timesaver.
