A narrower search works fine, so something is timing out. These searches would work OK on the old server. Would they be hitting the same cyrus server, and also not running on the same host? This would be the correct setting for the timeout, assuming 'imap' is the correct server stanza for your configuration. FWIW, the description is listed in the header of the backends.php file, but it's the very last option, I missed it the first time I looked too ;) Are you sure the issue was a timeout on the IMAP server? Can anyone point me at where or if I can set a longer IMAP timeout? Or if there is something else I am missing - a PHP-FPM timeout accessing IMAP? Php.ini max_execution_time = 30? A possibility, sure. How long did the searches take on your old system? Or is this just something I need to improve on the Cyrus box - squatter? If your question is whether to use squatter, then definitely: yes! Any ideas would be helpful. Anything of interest on the cyrus server logs? You can also activate imap debug logging in backends.php to log the IMAP conversation so we can see if there is anything weird going on there. You could use Xdebug or Blackfire to profile this script to find out where it's spending the time (most probably waiting). Zitat von Joseph Mays : do you see a pattern in the users who have this issue, like having a certain locale? I have been trying to identify something they have in common, but thus far have not. One handy aspect of this issue is that *I* have the problem and thus can replicate it. The support person for this system, however, does not have the problem, and thus spent some time very confused about some calls he was receiving before first reporting it. I have ruled out browser version -- have tried Chrome, Explorer, Firefox, all have the problem. I have ruled out reverse dns. Note that I am only human, and thus might have overlooked something. I would be happy to hear any suggestion about something that would cause this problem in message.php (and only message.php), even if it's something I thought I had ruled out. -Original Message- From: Ralf Lang Sent: Monday, May 27, 2019 6:57 AM To: imp@lists.horde.org Subject: Re: [imp] Individual messages taking 77 seconds to open. Everything about the server is fine, except that some users (not all) are having a problem when it comes to clicking on a message in the inbox and opening it. Opening the message takes almost exactly (I have timed it with a stopwatch many times) 77 seconds to open. Every other aspect of the horde server works fine and responds immediately. I have tried calling the horde imp webmail interface through both ssl and non ssl versions. Both have the same problem. We have a squirrelmail webmail interface that works with the same imap server. It does not have this problem. We have other imap interfaces that work fine. The problem is just some users of the horde imp software, and specifically only with calling message.php through horde. I have put wireshark on the browser system and watched the communication. The get request for message.php is sent immediately by the server when the link is clicked in the inbox. The server acks the response, but the get request does not show up in the webserver logs. Then, for 77 seconds, nothing apparently happens on either the client or server side (except for the sidebar.php refreshes, which work fine through this whole process). Then, 77 seconds later, the get request appears in the webserver log, is responded to immediately, and the message appears in the browser interface. I have been going through every timeout I can find, php.ini, ssl, the horde imp configuaration, nothing makes any difference. The webserver seems to be processing *something* in message.php, timing out, and then going ahead and sending the message. At this point I would be happy to hear any ideas someone might have. Zitat von James Noyes : On 2/24/19, 15:56, Michael J Rubinsky wrote: Yes. If an IMAP server receives such a "SEARCH" command in that situation, it SHOULD reject the command with a "BAD" response (due to the conflicting charset labels). This also applies to any IMAP command or extension that includes an optional charset label and associated strings in the command arguments, including the MULTISEARCH extension. For commands with a mandatory charset field, such as SORT and THREAD, servers SHOULD reject charset values other than UTF-8 with a “BAD” response (due to the conflicting charset labels). Ok, this clarifies that SEARCH with a charset should be rejected, but only SEARCH or other commands that "include an optional charset label". SORT and THREAD do not include an *optional* charset label, they include a *mandatory* charset label. The final sentence addresses SORT and THREAD specifically. They still need have the charset specified (because it is still mandatory), this just clarifies that it shouldn't be any value other than UTF-8 and risks rejection/BAD if it is. Yes? I have tried this with gnupg at /usr/bin/gpg and with gnupg2 - there is a symlink at /usr/bin/gpg2 - I assume it's OK to use that symlink? is gnu^pg or gnupg2 recommended? I don't know if this is an IMP or a Horde error - does anyone have this working properly? I am able to create the keypair and import manually, however the buttons in IMP are not working, and I believe I have set this up properly. Re: [imp] HTML email replies badly formatted
Zitat von John H. Bennett III : Hello all, I get a lot of html email, and I have my preference set to reply using the same format as the original message. When I go to reply to these emails with imp, the reply is badly formatted. There are multiple line breaks everywhere within the response, and I have to actually edit the original email to make it not look so slopy and unprofessional. This doesn't happen in Outlook or Thunderbird, so I'm pretty certain it's in the way imp is interpreting the message, but I don't have any real way to prove that other than what I see in how the email response is formatted. Has anyone found a fix or permanent workaround for this? How else are others dealing with it? I had seen a suggestion a while back in the archives, but that suggestion would then be broken upon the new code upgrade. I had tested this a while back with the GIT checkout I had, and saw the same behavior. Re: [imp] Email redirects to remote addresses do not work.
Zitat von zyrixx : Hello dear Horder User, I have tied Horde to a mail server (Postfix), which acts as a smart host. As soon as I forward mails to internal users, that's no problem. But if I use an address that does not exist on the mail system, the mail server is instructed to send the mail via the recipient's Smtp server. This makes no sense, because you can send mail to all remote addresses, always using the deposited Smtp server of the sender. Can it be that Horde passes the redirects wrong? This doesn't have anything to do with Horde. It's about your Postfix configuration. -- Jan Schneider The Horde Project https://www.horde.org/ -- imp mailing list Frequently Asked Questions: http://wiki.horde.org/FAQ To unsubscribe, mail: imp-unsubscr...@lists.horde.org
Re: [imp] Trouble with email addresses containing empty domain labels
Zitat von Jens Wahnes : Jens Wahnes wrote: Jens Wahnes wrote: Jan Schneider wrote: I was able to track this down to Horde_Idna. The error will be catched in Horde_Idna 1.1.0 and displayed smarter in IMP 6.2.18. I looked into this again today. Even though I have got the new versions installed (both Horde_Idna 1.1.0 and IMP 6.2.18), I still seem to get the same error, i.e. no warning when sending an email to an address like f...@example..com and the mail is actually being sent to "foo" without any domain. Are there any other dependencies that I may have missed? I can see this working on demo.horde.org, i.e. trying to send an email to "f...@example..com" from demo.horde.org is aborted with an error message. Still, this does not happen in our setup. On our systems, the email is being sent to the "localpart only" address instead. Is nobody else having this problem? Looking for things that are unique to our setup, I thought that this might be because we use a "pre_sent" hook to add headers to outgoing email messages, but even when disabling that hook, the problem persists. I don't seem to be getting any hint from the log files neither. So I'm running out of clues what part of our configuration might be causing the trouble. Maybe someone has got an idea how to debug this further? Could it be caused by other hooks we've got? What strikes me though is the fact the error message I get on demo.horde.org when trying to send an email to "f...@example..com" is "Invalid e-mail address (f...@example..com)." According to the code that I see in .../imp/lib/Compose.php around line 1300, this would be the error message that is generated upon a Horde_Mail_Exception, not upon Horde_Idna_Exception, because in the latter case, the message would contain a colon. I thought this whole problem was related to Horde_Idna? To me, the code added in the commit <https://github.com/horde/horde/commit/36b0073ab1184a4b6f2a2beea3c286ce087c763d> suggests that catching Horde_Idna_Exception is supposed to fix the problem? Or am I on the wrong track completely? I was revisiting this problem today as it persists in our environment, using Horde_Idna 1.1.1 stable imp 6.2.21 stable What I was able to find out is that whether or not the problem will be caught by the fix mentioned above depends on the "maildomain" setting for the mail server used (as set in Imp's backends.local.php). If "maildomain" is set to the empty string, as is the case in the "advanced" configuration given as an example in backends.php, an error message is displayed if one tries to send an email to e.g. "john@example..org" with two adjacent dots in the domain name. However, if the "maildomain" property of the mail server is set to a proper hostname, e.g. "example.net", no warning is displayed and the email is sent to e.g. "john.joe" without a domain name. I tried to work around this using a hook, that is "public function compose_addr(Horde_Mail_Rfc822_Address $addr)" as described in Imp's hooks.php.dist. The idea was to look for addresses that contain ".." in the host part of the email address and reject them in the hook. However, that did not work either. When the backend's "maildomain" property is set to e.g. "example.net" and one tries to send an email to the misspelled "john@example..org" address again, then inside the hook the $addr->mailbox variable will be set to "john.doe", but the $addr->host variable will be "example.net" (as given in the "maildomain" setting) and not "example..org" (as given by the user writing the email message). So one cannot catch the wrong email address there. Of course, the email is sent to just "john.doe" (without domain name) eventually without the "example.net" suffix applied. (In the imp_sentmail table, this will be recorded as "john@example..org"). If anyone else is going to try this out, please note that changes made to backends.local.php will only be applied to new sessions, so one has to re-login to properly test those changes. Any chance for an easy fix to this? Thanks Jens I still cannot reproduce this, even with the 'maildomain' setting popuplated. I get the same error message with and without that. And I always get the error message including the colon. I get that on demo.horde.org too though. -- Jan Schneider The Horde Project https://www.horde.org/ -- imp mailing list Frequently Asked Questions: http://wiki.horde.org/FAQ To unsubscribe, mail: imp-unsubscr...@lists.horde.org

In the last months I have noticed that the disks load (two SSD in RAID1) is grown a lot. We use MySQL (actually MariaDB) as DB. I looked at the tables and have noticed that there are two very large tables: - horde_vfs: 24G size, 74 thousands records - horde_imap_client_message: 12G size, 6 million records! Are these sizes and number of records "normal"? Neither are purged automatically, so this may be normal. Is there any mechanism to purge old records from these tables? Or they will grow forever? You can use 'imp-query-imap-cache --lifetime ' to trim 'horde_imap_client_message'. Nothing will be lost, anything not in the cache will be retreived from the IMAP server again, possibly causing a slight delay. Oh! I didn't noticed that command. I seems it's just what we were looking for... Regarding 'horde_vfs', it really depends on what is in there. It can be used for several things. Attachments and drafts can be stored there before sending and you may wish to trim very old entries. But it can also be used for more permanent storage, in which case trimming is probably not such a good idea. Things will be permanently lost, so be careful here, as it will p*ss off your users if you remove things they actually use. Looking at the DB contents, it seems that this table is used at 99,9% for email composition, so I think we could safely delete the records older than a day.janma The question is: can we safely simply delete entries from the horde_vfs table (filtering for vfs_path = ".horde/imp/compose")? No references will be broken in some other table? Thanks No, you can safely remove those. Re: [imp] Trouble with email addresses containing empty domain labels
Zitat von Jens Wahnes : Hi, with current stable version of Imp (6.2.17) and Horde_Smtp (1.9.4), we are seeing problems with emails that are to be sent to addresses that appear to be invalid, as they contain two adjacent dots and thus an empty "label" (at least that's what I would call this in DNS vocabulary). To make things clearer, consider, for example, an address such as john...@example..com When one tries to send an email to an address like that, at a certain point in processing that email, some Horde component seems to drop the domain part of the address completely. So in the example of "john...@example..com", it will try to send an email to just "johndoe" without any domain. Interestingly enough, the entry in the imp_sentmail table contains the full (wrong) address. On the other hand, the "To" header of the email, as saved in the "Sent" folder on the IMAP server, does not contain the full address, but only the localpart. Of course, the recipient's address given in the SMTP dialogue is lacking the domain as well. So after doing some tests, I'm still unsure if Imp or Horde_Smtp or some other package is to be blamed. Could someone help clarify? Of course, there is also the question of how to best deal with this. In an ideal world, I'd say that Horde_Smtp should be able to deal with these kind of email addresses but Imp should never generate them. IMHO, users trying to send an email to an address with a typo like this (two dots instead of one dot) should receive an error message and the message should not be sent until they revised the email address. Jens I was able to track this down to Horde_Idna. The error will be catched in Horde_Idna 1.1.0 and displayed smarter in IMP 6.2.18. -- Jan Schneider The Horde Project https://www.horde.org/ -- imp mailing list Frequently Asked Questions: http://wiki.horde.org/FAQ To unsubscribe, mail: imp-unsubscr...@lists.horde.org
Re: [imp] Mail server closed the connection unexpectedly
Zitat von Stefan Suurmeijer : Hi Jan, Thanks for replying! The IMAP logs don't really show anything. I'm using Cyrus IMAP. On default logging, I see no evidence of the connection in the logs. Cyrus has some debug options in the imapd.conf file that I've been experimenting with a little, but so far nothing Cyrus also has the option to explicitly log all actions for a user. So I've created a directory /var/lib/cyrus/log/testuser. But nothing shows there either (which is logical, since the connection fails on login, Cyrus never knows the user) I haven't yet found a way to simply raise Cyrus' log level. Still Googling for that Any thoughts? It's on a Centos 6.8 VM, and the other day, during a moment of inattention, I ran yum update and didn't notice that there was a bunch of 'horde' elements in there. [imp] IMP H5 (6.2.16) (final)
The Horde Team is pleased to announce the final release of the Internet Mail Program (IMP) version H5 (6.2.16). IMP, the Internet Mail Program, is one of the most popular and widely deployed open source webmail applications in the world. You may want to verify what is being reported as spam before having spamassassin act on it, especially if it will affect all users. We get our fair share of legitimate mail being reported as spam by our users. Noted. I have several identities which have two different sent-mail folders, one called "sent-mail" the other one "Sent". The first one is the one I used from the beginning the latter one I created first about a year ago. Is it possible that the maintenance tasks is confused because of the two sent folders? Re: [imp] Server does not support binary message data
Zitat von Aaron Paetznick : We've found a particular message that generates an "Server does not support binary message data" error when we attempt to forward it from IMP. We're using Horde 5.2.10 and IMP 6.2.13. I thought the issue was similar to ticket #13901 (https://bugs.horde.org/ticket/13901), but we're using regular SMTP and not ActiveSync. It may still be the same issue. If we attach the message as-is as a message/rfc822 mime part, and that part is formatted so that it requires binarymime, that may be the issue. Theoretically. We're also having problems with the same message and how it renders. It's an HTML message, and some of the links below a certain point no longer work. They simply aren't available to click. This does not happen for the same message in Outlook.com, Yahoo, Gmail, and even Horde3/IMP4. I wonder if this is related to the binary message data error above. For example, I'm logged in as admin, and am trying to send an email to admin, and the from says To:admin@missing_domain. It's the same for any user. This works fine on my production server running horde 5.2.8, imp 6.2.11, and as far as I can remember, has always worked. I have a default identity set and , I've compared horde/conf.php, imp/conf.php and backends.local.php settings against my production server, and things match where they should except for any new settings in the GIT version, and the different maildomain parameters in imp/backends.local.php If I send to ad...@domain.com, then it does display correctly. Has something changed that I need to configure something else, or have I just completely missed something? Probably the latter. Any clues are appreciated. Sorry I don't follow completely. Are you saying that sending the address "ad...@domain.com" works, but literally "admin" (without domain part) fails? I didn't found it on my research. STREAM_CRYPTO_METHOD_TLS_CLIENT is the source of the problem with PHP 5.6. As https://wiki.php.net/rfc/improved-tls-defaults states under "Stream Wrapper Creep": Beyond the “creep” of new stream wrappers there also exists a consistency problem. Do all users understand that the ssl wrapper technically can negotiate any of the supported protocols? Do they know that in contrast the tls wrapper will only negotiate TLSv1 and not the newer TLS iterations? [SNIP] [SNIP] Existing Constant Re-Valuing The existing constants are internally re-valued as shown below to allow their use as bitwise flags. Because the existing code delineates between clients and servers the least significant bit is used to differentiate between the two stream types. That proved that my installation is capable to use TLSv1.2. Since this exists as of PHP 5.5 I guess it will not change soon. Is there a chance to make Horde/Socket/Client.php capable of recognizing the PHP version or just trying newer protocols first? Yes, I guess that's the only viable option. AFAIK, showing the advanced prefs can only be enabled for a specific session, but not permanently. However, I'd still like the ability to permanently delete mail from any folder. All I can say about that it that from my point of view, that feature is difficult to implement, because it would require one to *reliably* (re-)set the flags of potentially many mails in a folder since IMAP does not allow the deletion of a single arbitrary message per se. So it can only be done by emulating this, i.e. removing any "deleted" flags present, flagging the message in question as deleted, doing EXPUNGE (or CLOSE, for that matter) and resetting all message flags removed previously. Since there can be several IMAP clients active on a mailbox at any given time, it would be very hard to get this right since these operations are not atomic. That's true especially if you consider that there could be trouble with the imap connection in between the commands required to do this, so this might require to implement some "to do list" of IMAP commands that would need to be (reliably) stored somewhere until the connection to the IMAP server can be re-established. In essence, I would not consider the effect of this worth the effort needed. Jens You can expunge individual messages too, and we already have a method argument in IMP's API to delete and purge individual message. So it should be rather simple to implement (keyhandler, AJAX API method, help text). -- Jan Schneider The Horde Project http://www.horde.org/ -- imp mailing list Frequently Asked Questions: http://wiki.horde.org/FAQ To unsubscribe, mail: imp-unsubscr...@lists.horde.org

Re: [imp] Folder names with tilde character
Zitat von Michael M Slusarz : Quoting Jan Schneider : Zitat von Michael M Slusarz : Quoting Jens Wahnes : After a very long search, I found out that this problem is caused by the code in the Horde_Imap_Client_Tokenize class, or more precisely the code within the "next" method on line 292 or so. There is a comment attached to the "case" statement in question which reads "Ignore binary string identifier. PHP strings are binary-safe", but even after reading quite a bit of the surrounding code, I fail to understand what is meant by that comment. It means that PHP doesn't care if a string contains NULLs, so we are just discarding the ~ when it is part of the literal8 construction (since a NULL is treated as a single-byte character for PHP string processing). RFC 6855 support is irrelevant here - literal8 is defined by BINARY so this can be tested on a server that supports BINARY. Thus, if you have a fix Jan you don't need access to a UTF-8 server to properly test. Okay, and when is BINARY used, so I have a use case where ~ *does* indicate binary strings? Any binary attachment? The only place where we would need to *parse* a literal8, is when reading BODY data of a part. I think we always try to do this, but IIRC the server only has to send literal8 when the data both 1) is 8bit an 2) contains NULs. So you would have to artificially create that kind of data to possibly receive the correct response. Regardless, UTF8 support isn't useful for testing since it only defines literal8 for sending data in APPENDS (thus, no local parsing needed). It's going to be much easier to write a unit test for this. I'm almost 100% positive there's a unit test dedicated to tokenization of server response strings. So test that these two strings are parsed correctly: * 1 FETCH (BINARY[1] ~{1} and * LIST () "" "~foo" michael http://github.com/horde/horde/commit/2cc3963358d08fe180db41a0bdeb2b7844bf47ac -- Jan Schneider The Horde Project http://www.horde.org/ -- imp mailing list Frequently Asked Questions: http://wiki.horde.org/FAQ To unsubscribe, mail: imp-unsubscr...@lists.horde.org

Re: [imp] Folder names with tilde character
Zitat von Jens Wahnes : One of our users created a folder with a tilde ("~") character within the folder name. This kind of folder name is not handled correctly. When the folder is shown in the folder list, the tilde character is silently dropped. For instance, if a folder by the name of "~tilde~" is created, it is shown in the mailbox list as if it were called "tilde". As a result, all kinds of bad things happen, e.g. when trying to open the folder, an error message is shown, as there is no folder named just "tilde" present on the server. I have seen this happening on a server without UTF-8 support (RFC 6855). Since I don't have access to any IMAP server that does support the "UTF8=ACCEPT" extension, I don't know if it happens on those servers as well. Maybe someone else can try to see what happens there? Confirmed on Cyrus (without UTF8=ACCEPT capability). After a very long search, I found out that this problem is caused by the code in the Horde_Imap_Client_Tokenize class, or more precisely the code within the "next" method on line 292 or so. There is a comment attached to the "case" statement in question which reads "Ignore binary string identifier. PHP strings are binary-safe", but even after reading quite a bit of the surrounding code, I fail to understand what is meant by that comment. The only other location I found which seems to deal with this is on line 209 or so, in the getLiteralLength method. Disabling the code that sorts out tilde characters around line 292 of Tokenize.php sure does help to resolve the problem of folder names with a tilde character being displayed incorrectly in IMP. AFAICT, this does no harm to folder names that do in fact contain "binary" characters such as "Äpfel ≠ Birnen". However, I'm not really sure if this kind of change might still have side effects that I cannot foresee. Maybe someone more familiar with the Horde_Imap_Client code can tell if it is safe to disable that particular piece of code? I have a local fix, but cannot test it on a UTF8 server.
