Dear friends,

*Mitracarpus hirtus* seems to very closely resembling *Spermacoce ocymoides*
.

1) is *Mitracarpus hirtus* also distributed (naturalized) in India ?
2) how can *Mitracarpus hirtus* and *Spermacoce ocymoides* be
differentiated ?

Here is the photopage of *Spermacoce ocymoides*, where a comment (*Mitracarpus

Fwd: [efloraofindia:94130] ... etymology of Grangea genus

2011-11-12 Thread J.M. Garg
Forwarding again for any assistance in the matter please.
Some earlier relevant feedback:“... the context is Grangea maderaspatena
(typo in my post)

Subject: [efloraofindia:69251] ... etymology of Grangea genus
To: efloraofindia

Dear friends,

Would like to know the derivation of the genus name *Grangea*.
... my query is in context of *Grangea madersapatana* (L.) POIR.

*• *Would it be named after someone called Grange (known to Addison) ... as
put in The Encyclopaedic dictionary; an original work of reference to the
words in the English language, giving a full account of their origin,
meaning, pronunciation, and use ...
http://www.archive.org/stream/cu31924091757025/cu31924091757025_djvu.txt

Forgive my naivety, but do not know Grange nor Addison

*•* OR would the name be based on the word grange, meaning an outlying farm.

Regards.
Dinesh

When i run the key with the provided visible characters I reached Primula
dryadifolia
http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=200017217
I didnt check the distribution and a recheck created doubt in me on my id
as pointed out Primula dryadifolia doesnt have yellow throat instead a deep
purple throat.
Thanks for the correction sir.
Good learning of W. Himalayan plants.
Is *P. rosea* has entire or serrated leaves?

We have to understand it properly as our site will be more useful only if

[efloraofindia:94188] Re: Feedback about efi website

2011-11-12 Thread Dinesh Valke
Garg ji,

Without having dug into "why", one of the likely reasons is that the words
being attempted for search are nothing but links; they are not plain text.
Google bot intelligently indexes the contents in the linked pages rather
than the links itself. In other words, Google indexes contents which are
plain text.

To drive my point, here are some random texts chosen from eFI site; try
searching them:

   1. for documenting flora of India
   2. Due credits are to be given in the name of
   3. he/ she may withdraw from the e-group

If in each page (of species) there appears plain text contents, eventually
they would get indexed.
Have not yet checked if there are any settings in "Manage Site" related to
site indexing.

All this are my off-hand thoughts, there could be some other reasons.

Regards.
Dinesh
