I think this is the unusual (densely pubescent, some might say villous)
form of Strobilanthes helicta. It has the glabrous corolla, zigzag stem,
anisophyllous leaves and one-sided rhachis typical of that species. It is
apparently plietesial and was presumably brought into the garden as a young
plant several years old - this is the explanation for why it has not
flowered until now. It would be good to have a better image of the shape of
the inflorescence - not just the flower.

Dear Sir:

In the Iturraran Botanical Garden we have 2 plants from Arunachal Pradesh.
They were collected three years ago and have flourished for the first time.
Now it's a subshrubs 2 m tall.

It's a Strobilanthes sp.

They can help us identify it?

Thank you very much.

Re: [efloraofindia:244776] TSP-JUN2016-04-392:Images of Stereospermum chelonoides (Bignoniaceae)

2016-06-08 Thread Anurag N. Sharma
I am certain it is *Dolichandrone* sp. for the spathaceous calyx

seen in your photos (2), (4) and (93).* Stereospermum suaveolens *does not
have such a calyx as seen in the FOI photos

that you have provided the link for. If you compare the calyx there and in
your photos, the difference will be quite apparent.

*Dolichandrone* sp. is very much a wild one in our area, Tumkur
included (*Dolichandrone
atrovirens

*being
the commonest one). There is an error in the photos on Herbarium JCB in
this case. The image in the *Stereospermum suaveolen*s

page showing flowers belongs to *Dolichandrone* sp.

If you compare the other characters they dont match *Stereospermum* as
well, such as the flowers being in large panicles

whereas your photos show a much shorter inflroescence.

Re: [efloraofindia:244789] Female Cones of Pinus spp. in Himachal Pradesh ATJUNE2016/07

2016-06-08 Thread Anil Thakur
Dear Dr. Nidhan Singh Ji,

Your concerns may be right. Actually, opened cones look alike in many
Pinus species. It is surely P. gerardiana. I have seen its seeds
myself. Seeds are long in P. gerardiana as compared to P. roxburghii.
Secondly, megasporophylls in P. gerardiana easily shatter but they
are quite persistent in P. roxburghii. Overall size of cone is smaller
in P. gerardiana as compared to P. roxburghii. Moreover, I had
procured two cones from a reliable source in Kinnaur, where it
naturally occurs. Second cone shattered badly and have to be thrown.
P. roxburghii does not occur in Kinnaur (high altitude area).

Let's make our next tour to Sangla valley in Kinnaur in September
(season for Chilgosa and wild flowers). We will get entirely new
flowers there.

These links make be helpful.

[efloraofindia:244805] Re: 75-TSP-ID-07JUN2016-2:Tree @ Chikmagalur for ID

2016-06-08 Thread radha veach
I was hesitating between Heterphragma quadriloculare and Radermachera
xylocarpa.
Heterophragma tends to flower when the tree is in leaf, whereas
Radermachera flowers when the tree is leafless. The latter also flowers
later in the season.
Wondering what made you decide, Neil?

regards
Radha
