Today morning only, matter of Dactylectenium came up in a conversation
in another group . On my walk I did find 2 types of it , and I have a third
type which is exactly like the specimen in this post . Peculiarity of this
type is , it appeared after first rains never grew more than 10 cm , on
main axis spikelet was one held at an angle in 99% , 1% had two , usually
tip bare ..it dried and died fast , in a month even though rains were
more than normal . Why I got curious.crowfoot grass is something I am
familiar with since early childhood . I do not remember its dwarf edition .
Just now I visited the subpages , sadly I could not find much useful .
I think I should make a post .either my 3 types together , or one
by one ? Garg Sir ?

2019-10-08 Thread ushadi
yes, Toxicodendron radicans
eastern climbing poison ivy
look at the thin hairs that cling to the host tree
This is their summer color , prolific in
growth, and widely available all over, you cant miss it.
in the fall they are spectacular red/orange/mottled//look attractive to
those that do not recognize it
and they want them for the fall//thanksgiving decoration

Leaves can be highly variable

its a horrible plant
read this if interested
there is a rhyme for it to remember:

There’s a saying to help identify Poison Ivy…* "Leaves of Three, Let it
Be!" *

*==*
*for sake of completeness*
*there is a western poison ivy
**Toxicodendron rydbergii*,

*not so prolific and common, even in the west, one has to search for it*
*it does not climb, grows on ground only*
*I have seen one . near a railway track after much searching once in a
somewhat wild ernes place.*

Usha Di,
Thanks a lot.
I knew you would give your valuable inputs to this post.Had seen one at New
Windsor also. It was growing through the wooden strips.
Will post it separately.
And thanks for the additional information as well.
You are too good with US plants.

[efloraofindia:331947] Differences- Ixora pavetta and Ixora brachiata

2019-10-08 Thread J.M. Garg
There is a lot of confusion between these species, including in our
database.
I could not find any difference between the two on net.
After deeply studying all posts in efi site along with Biotik
 and
Pitchandikulam
,
I found the following key differences to separate the two based on
photographs:
Most important is *buds are globose *in Ixora brachiata and not so in Ixora
pavetta.
*Leaf base *is attenuate to
cuneate or acute
, in Ixora brachiata
 and
rounded in Ixora pavetta

.
*Leaf apex *is obtuse to subacute in Ixora brachiata
 and is
acute to apiculate in Ixora pavetta

.
*Fruits *are reddish when ripe in Ixora brachiata
 and
black-coloured when ripe in Ixora pavetta

.
Ixora brachiata is *endemic to Western Ghats *while Ixora pavetta

is *native to India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and is also cultivated*.
Based on this I am reviewing all the posts in efi site.

Hi,

Lokhandi seedling images

Plant name: Lokhandi

Grows to a medium size tree (?)

Leaves: Opposite

Flowers: White, very fragrant

I went to reopened Academy of development sciences, *Kashele *and got few
plants.

One is this one called Lokhandi. The maali said it has very fragrant white
flowers that you can smell from 25 meters!

Happy I searched the net and found at least 3 plants by name of Lokhandi.

Please help me identify this one year old seedling correctly.

1. This cannot be Memocylon Umbellatum? Can it be? Memocylon has blue
flowers. Are they fragrant?

2. Is it Ixora brachiata? Are I brachiata flowers very fragrant?

3. It definitely cannot be Lepisanthes tetraphylla?

4. Can it be Mammea suriga?

Thanks and regards
