Hello, If $Log$ appears anywhere in a script it would be expanded while CVS checkin. Does anyone got in any troubles with this scenario yet? Though chances are less as we always enlcose the variable name in brackets ( ie $(Log) or ${Log} ) or keep it boldface ( LOG instead of Log ). But what can be done if some programmer leaves it like $Log$someothervariable. I tried with one of my scripts and CVS commit replaces it with Log message. What I usually do when someone has your problem is to turn wincvs on, wait until it is done (which may take 10 or 20 minutes) and the switch off flat mode. Some times it takes forever to come back, but I have yet to see it never come back. Maybe you should go to lunch while you are waiting. Or go home for dinner . . . . Re: Cvswrappers -W
Nicholas Catanchin writes: Could somebody just confirm for me the order in which CVS reads and organises the wrappers? What I'm interested in specifically is the entries in the $cvsroot\cvswrappers file and the wrappers specified on the command line of an import. About 2 weeks ago I could have sworn that wrappers on the command line were overwriting all other wrappers. Now, all of a sudden, it seems as if wrappers in the cvswrappers file in the repository are taking over. The wrappers are organized sequentially: first the ones from the repository, then the ones from your home directory, then the one (singular) from the $CVSWRAPPERS environment variable, then the ones from the command line, then the ones from the directory being imported. The first matching entry is the one used, so wrappers in the repository do take precedence over ones specified on the command line. Things are a bit more complicated in the case of client/server, because both the client and the server do wrapper processing. Basically, the client reads the ones from your home directory, the environment variable, and the command line and sends them all to the server as command line options. The server then follows the above process. All released versions of CVS have a bug in client/server mode in that the client doesn't send a wrapper entry to the server unless it specifies some non-default option. Making Tag on a branch-question

After some days,I wanted to make a tag on the branch for QA testing purpose.I checked out from the branch and then tagged it from that working directory with cvs tag -r 'tag_on_branch_name' modulename Is this the correct procedure? One developer insists that when he checked out from the branch,he doesn't get the latest files from that branch and has to do a cvs update -r tag_on_branch_name to get the latest files. As a result,he cannot commit because of the sticky tag. I told him that he should get the latest files from the branch by checking out from the branch regardless of the tag.Isn't this correct? Pls clarify. Thanks a lot, Jeeva Sarma __ Do You Yahoo!? Re: cvs [commit aborted]:
More information: When I SSH to the CVS server I see many CVS SERVER processes on the box (via ps -ef ). This problem appears to happen only from one set of IPs. While many people use this CVS server, I'm the only one experiencing problems ( and from only 1 location ). I have no problems with different machines on a couple of different networks. ___ Info-cvs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/info-cvs
Correct behaviour of status command?
In the file MINOR-BUGS there is this entry: * cvs status has a difference in its output between local and client/server mode. Namely there's a tab character followed by a ctime(3)-style date string at the end of the Working revision: field. Looking at the status command it's not apparent what date/time should be displayed here( if at all ). In local mode the date/time stamp that is output is the same as what the CVS/Entries file has for the date time stamp. The CVS/Entries time date stamp is different depending on whether or not you have updated or checked out the file. On original checkout the time date stamp placed into the CVS/Entries file is the time/date stamp that was the time/date of the last commit into the repository for that file. On update the CVS/Entries file time/date stamp is updated to the time/date of the update when the user runs the update. In server mode no date/time stamp is output, this is because there is no way the cvs server can look at the CVS/Entries file that is local to the client machine. Would it be apropriate to just modify the cvs status command to not output a date time string? donald ___ Info-cvs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/info-cvs
Re: Making Tag on a branch-question
Jeeva Sarma writes: I have a question regarding tags made on branches. I have branched our tree with the branch name 2.0. 2.0 is not a branch name. After some days,I wanted to make a tag on the branch for QA testing purpose.I checked out from the branch and then tagged it from that working directory with cvs tag -r 'tag_on_branch_name' modulename Is this the correct procedure? Almost certainly not. If that's really the command you typed, you applied a tag of modulename to the revision/branch specified by 'tag_on_branch_name'. Usually, you do not specify a specific revision to tag with -r, you just tag the currently checked-out revision in your working directory. And one usually doesn't use the module name as a tag name, it's too confusing. Who knows? Your description is too confused to follow. Perhaps you could do a cvs status -v on one of the files and share it with us so we could get some clue as to what you really did and are doing. -Larry Jones Even my FRIENDS don't do what I want. -- Calvin ___ Info-cvs mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] http://mail.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/info-cvs

RE: import vs cvs co -c
you need to explictly checkout the CVSROOT directory either locally on the server or on a client system by doing: cvs co /yourpathtorepository/CVSROOT cd /yourpathtorepository/CVSROOT vi modules add your new modules with the correct syntax cvs ci modules Now the module will recognized by CVS on your server and you can do operations using it... cheers, -teala -Original Message- From: E B [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Thursday, February 07, 2002 9:24 PM To: Walsh, Matthew; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: import vs cvs co -c Probably you guys havent read my mail clearly.
