Migrating from cyrus-imapd-2.0.13 to cyrus-imapd-2.1.18

2004-04-05 Thread Adi Linden
Hi,

I have to move the cyrus-imap mailstore from RedHat 7 running
cyrus-imapd-2.0.13 to RedHat AS3.0 running cyrus-imapd-2.1.18.

Can I simply copy the /var/spool/imap/user directory from on server to the
other and then user reconstruct an quota to rebuild all the databases?

Thanks,
Adi

Ooops, I am sorry. 2.1.18 is the cyrus-sasl version. I am going from
cyrus-imapd-2.0.13 to cyrus-imapd-2.2.3.

Anyone has made a benchmark between 2.3.16 and cyrus imapd 2.4.X ?

Apparently, performance has a big improvement.

I feel this with same hardware and different versions,
but unfortunately i dont collect good indicators with imap 2.3.x

cyrus imapd delay

2001-02-19 Thread Oguz YILMAZ

when trying to connect to the imap server there is 15 seconds delay. I
have tried 3 times.all connections had 15 seconds delay. I have checked

cyrus imapd 2.1.3

2002-03-29 Thread Andreas Meyer

ehlo all!

I can´t get the cyrus to run. I compiled with
env CPPFLAGS=-I/usr/local/include LDFLAGS=-s
CPPFLAGS="-I/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.3.1/include" \
LDFLAGS="-L/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.3.1/lib -R/usr/local/BerkeleyDB.3.1/lib" \
./configure
--with-dblib=berkeley \
--without-krb \
--with-auth=unix \
--with-notify=unix \
--with-sasl=/usr/local \
--with-openssl=/usr/local/ssl

make clean
make depend
make all
make install
mkdir /var/imap
etc.
Then from the tools-directory a 'mkimap' as cyrus, all fine.

But when I start the './master &' as root from /usr/cyrus/bin
the imapd.log says:

What could I do? Some help?

Compiling cyrus-imapd

2006-08-11 Thread Kevin Kruzich

I've found I can/cannot authenticate with imtest depending on the
following combination of configure options (below). Does cyrus-imapd
have a sense of Berkeley DB v. GNU DBM? Using
--with-cyrus-prefix=/usr/local/cyrus --without-bdb --with-dblib=gdbm

doesn't seem to have any effect.

authenticates:

IMAPCONF="--with-cyrus-prefix=/usr/local/cyrus"

SASLCONF="--disable-cram --disable-digest --disable-otp --disable-krb4
--disable-gssapi --disable-anon --enable-plain"

DOES NOT authenticate:

IMAPCONF="--with-cyrus-prefix=/usr/local/cyrus"

cyrus imapd debug

2015-07-16 Thread Willem Offermans
Dear cyrus friends,

I have activated virtdomains in my imapd.conf:

...
virtdomains: yes
defaultdomain: example.com
...

If I use e-mail clients within the example.com domain, then e-mails can be
read and sent without any issue. However, if e-mail clients at remote
locations are used, for example via vpn connections, then it really depends
on the mail client whether there are issues or not.

1) mutt over vpn:

works, if I use:

imaps://myn...@example.com@IMAPServer.example.com/INBOX

2) live mail over vpn:

works, if I use:

username: myn...@example.com
incoming mail server: IMAPServer.example.com

does not work, if I use:

username: myn...@example.com
incoming mail server: IMAPServer.vpn.example.com

does not work, if I use:

username: MyName
incoming mail server: IMAPServer.vpn.example.com

3) outlook 2010 over vpn:

Although I can log in to the imap server, the client doesn't show any
received mails. Although it doesn't show any error message, I suspect that
the mail client tries to access the wrong INBOX. Outlook doesn't seem to be
able to connect in a way such as:
imaps://myn...@example.com@IMAPServer.example.com/INBOX

all of the above combinations for username and incoming mail server do not
work!

Does anyone know a solution to this?

If not, are you familiar with the general approach of debugging imapd? Can
you inform me about this procedure or show me the url?

Shouldn't the default work in any case? i.e.:

username: MyName
incoming mail server: any valid IP adress

You should export the mailbox-file and import in on the new machine too.
But nearly for sure this is in the FAQ/Wiki.

There isn't a 2.1.18 at the moment, so you may want to be sure the sources
you have are valid.

sendmail.cf cyrus imapd 2.0.7

Is it correct that there are two mailer definitions in the

If I would like to use procmail would I just replace the

Usually, delays that last a specific amount of time are DNS problems or
identd problems. As I'm pretty sure that Cyrus doesn't use identd, I'd
look at your DNS setup on the server. Try doing a lookup of your client's
IP address and hostname. I'll bet that it's filing to look up properly
and is timing out somewhere. Probably correcting that will solve your
problem. OTOH, I haven't really looked at imapd's code enough to tell you
that that's exactly what it's doing, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

2001-02-21 Thread Mario Acevedo-Bengoechea

After compiling, installing and configuring the Cyrus IMAP Software I
couldn't connect to the IMAP port. I checked the logs and I found this
entry when the system tries to bring up the IMAP service

Feb 21 15:52:18 matroxg400 service-/usr/cyrus/bin/imapd[27286]: unable to
set close on exec: Bad file descriptor.

I have no clue as to what this error means. At least I can tell you that
the file exists in the directory specified.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Mario Acevedo-Bengoechea

Hi,

I compiled cyrus-imap with ssl-Support. Starting imapd -s via
/etc/cyrus.conf:

# UNIX sockets start with a slash and are put into /var/imap/sockets
SERVICES {
  # add or remove based on preferences
  imap cmd="imapd" listen="imap" prefork=5
  imaps cmd="imapd -s" listen="imaps" prefork=5

I get the error message:

imapd[8727]: imaps: required OpenSSL options not present

ldd /usr/cyrus/bin/imapd shows

There is no libssl present !?

/etc/services is ok.

Any idea?

Cyrus IMAPd cvs issues

2002-02-09 Thread Henrique de Moraes Holschuh

Well, it has been some time since I last posted here :) RL has been a bit
busy.

Anyway, SASLv2 made it to Debian (it is not 100% functional right now, but I
trust the maintainer will fix that shortly; If he doesn't, I will), and that
means I can upload Cyrus IMAPd version 2.1.1 (from CVS) to Debian...

... If only CVS would allow me do it, I mean:

U cyrus21-imapd-2.1.1.0preCVS20020209/doc/sieve.html
U cyrus21-imapd-2.1.1.0preCVS20020209/doc/specs.html
cvs export: Updating cyrus21-imapd-2.1.1.0preCVS20020209/doc/html
cvs export: Updating cyrus21-imapd-2.1.1.0preCVS20020209/doc/internal
cvs export: failed to create lock directory in repository
`/cvs/src/cyrus/doc/internal': Permission denied
cvs export: failed to obtain dir lock in repository
`/cvs/src/cyrus/doc/internal'
cvs [export aborted]: read lock failed - giving up

This is NOT the first time I get this problem. Anyone knows what is up, and
how to permanently fix this? (HEAD branch)

Also, is there a way for people to receive the CVS commit logs for Cyrus
IMAPd (and SASL for that matter)? It would help me a damn great deal to
coordinate new releases when something really serious gets fixed in CVS...

Other than that, I have all my patches to cyrus 2.0 ported to CVS cyrus 2.1,
and will repost them here shortly (or start maintaining a www page for
them).

PS for the CMU crew: *PLEASE* update the config.sub and config.guess files
you have in there, they are ANCIENT, and break builds in at least 4
architectures (MIPS, MIPSEL, ia64, hppa). GNU config is a !@% pain in the
backside in that regard, one MUST keep it updated from GNU config CVS.

Also, would you guys be interested in a configure.in port to configure.ac
(autoconf 2.52)?

I compiled and installed the BerkeleyDB.3.3 new on the server.

The IMAP-book I have talks about version 1.6 and before and
I read I could use 'logout' to end the telnet-session, but
that doesn´t exit the session.

Now that the server runs I can go on understanding the whole
thing

Thank you! I need docu about the options I can write to the
imapd.conf for Cyrus IMAP4 v2.1.3

I found that some options don´t work e.g defaultpartition and
umask. When I use them I cannot telnet to cyrus.

configdirectory: /var/imap
#defaultpartition default
partition-default: /var/spool/imap
admins: cyrus
#umask 027
#srvtab: /var/imap/srvtab
allowanonymouslogin: no
#quotawarn 90
#timeout 30
#autocreatequota 1
#cleartextloginpause 5
sasl_passwd_check: sasldb
#sasl_pwcheck_method: sasldb
sievedir: /usr/sieve

I cannot find any documentation about the imapd.conf :(

man 5 imapd.conf

Bu the way autocreatequota 1 is pretty strange - this way you configure
cyrus to set 1 Kb quota to a newly created mailboxes. If you want 1 Mb, use
1000 instead of 1

cyrus imapd code audit?

2002-10-16 Thread Scott Russell

Greets.

Can anyone tell me when (or if) the last code audit for security and
backdoors in cyrus imapd was done? Was it done by CMU or a third party
group?

Strange request I know, but then again I work for a strange company.
Somebody somewhere would feel a whole lot better if a rubber stamp
with the word 'audit ok' was on the code. (not that it really means
anything)

On any recent version of cyrus, a user's seen information is totally
separate from their INBOX, and thus this should have no effect.

Cyrus IMAPd & auth problem

2003-01-15 Thread Marc-Christian Petersen
Hi all,

I am having some troubles with my cyrus setup. I am using saslauthd with
method pam. This is working now for over a year. Now I tried to add a user
and if I want to login with this user, for example, with pine, I get this:

Jan 15 11:23:26 intern master[8733]: about to exec /opt/cyrus/bin/imapd
Jan 15 11:23:26 intern imap[8733]: executed
Jan 15 11:23:26 intern imapd[8733]: accepted connection

Jan 15 11:23:29 intern imapd[8733]: badlogin: localhost[127.0.0.1] CRAM-MD5
[SASL(-13): user not found: no secret in database]

well, that user isn't in the sasl2db file, but I think I am using saslauthd
with auth method pam? Any hints? I am clueless atm.

cyrus-imapd + pam_ldap = ACL?

2003-06-24 Thread Gary C. New
I've been using cyrus-imapd-2.0.16 with pam_ldap for
several months now. I am currently trying to tighten
down my openldap directory and have run into a little
snag trying to write an appropriate ACL for this
setup.

Cyrus-imapd uses pam_ldap to query the ldap directory
anonymously and I cannot seem to find a way to require
either of them to use a defined process account. My
goal is to disallow anonymous access within my
openldap ACLs.

Does anyone have a similar setup or might be able to
suggest an alternative method for locking anonymous
access down?

Thank you for your assistance.

Respectfully,

Gary

Commerical Cyrus IMAPD support?

2006-09-26 Thread Jay Levitt
I've been wrestling with IMAPD/SASL problems for a few days, trying to get a
formerly-working sasldb setup onto a new (Ubuntu) server. I'm at a dead end; I
get "no secret in database" no matter what I try.

I imagine I could build SASL and IMAPD with symbols and step through with gdb,
but that's painful. I also imagine that someone who works with this every day
finds this easy, and I'd love to pay someone to Just Fix It. Anyone know of a
commercial provider for Cyrus support?

Ken Murchison offered that a few years ago but, now that he works for CMU,
that's a bit of a conflict of interest. Ideally, I'm looking for per-incident
or per-hour support; I have but a single mailbox on the system and wouldn't
have much use for an ongoing contract.

Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.8 Released

2007-02-07 Thread Ken Murchison

I am pleased to announce the release of Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.8. This release
should be considered production quality. This release (minus
replication) is currently deployed on the production Murder at CMU,
and the replication code is deployed in production at several other
large sites.

Please note that replication still does not work correctly for mailboxes
which have the IMAP CONDSTORE extension enabled on them. Since most, if
not all, mainstream IMAP clients still do not have support for
CONDSTORE, this deficiency in Cyrus IMAP should not impact many sites.
It is expected that the next release will properly support replication
of CONDSTORE-enabled mailboxes.

For full details, please see doc/changes.html and
doc/install-upgrade.html which are included in the distribution.

Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.9 Released

2007-08-20 Thread Ken Murchison
I am pleased to announce the release of Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.9. This release
should be considered production quality. This release is currently
deployed on the production Murder at CMU, as well as several other large
sites.

This release fixes some bugs in the replication code, the handling of
Sieve scripts when XFERing a mailbox between servers, and retains
cyrus.expunge (and associated messages) when RENAMEing, XFERing, or
replicating mailboxes. This release also now disables plaintext
authentication by default. For full details, please see
doc/changes.html and doc/install-upgrade.html which are included in the
distribution.

Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.10 Released

2007-10-24 Thread Ken Murchison
I am pleased to announce the release of Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.10. This
release should be considered production quality. This release is
currently deployed on the production Murder at CMU, as well as several
other large sites.

This release adds support for delayed delete and shared \Seen state, as
well as other additional features and fixes. This release also changes
the format of GUIDs used for replication to be the SHA1 hash of the
messages. For full details, please see doc/changes.html and
doc/install-upgrade.html which are included in the distribution.

Please note that replication still does not work correctly for mailboxes
which have the IMAP CONDSTORE extension enabled on them. Since most, if

Cyrus/Imapd - Outlook - Trash

2008-01-10 Thread Michael Polenske

Dear all,

we have some people using Outlook(2003) as MUI for our cyrus imap
installation.

Mozilla and KMail User can use the function, that a message marked as deleted
will be moved to a Trash-Folder in imap instead of deleting the mail. Outlook
unfortunally does not offer this feature. My first idea is to run a script
on imapserver, which goes through the mailboxes and moves all mails, which
are marked as DELETED, into the imap trash folder.

Long story short: is there a commandline tool to find out if a message has a
set DELETE flag, or do I have to use cyrdump and grep for the flag by
myself ?

Thanks and best regards,
Michael

2008-04-24 Thread Ken Murchison
I am pleased to announce the release of Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.12p1. This

The only change from 2.3.12 is a patch to fix a memory corruption in the

* Added statuscache.db to cache IMAP STATUS data which

2008-04-24 Thread Ken Murchison
I am pleased to announce the release of Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.12p2. This
release should be considered production quality.

I was careless in applying the memory corruption patch in 2.3.12p1 and
it didn't actually solve the problem. It should be fixed now.

Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.13 Released

2008-10-20 Thread Ken Murchison
I am pleased to announce the release of Cyrus IMAPd 2.3.13. This
release should be considered production quality.

Noteworthy changes:

* Added an experimental "sql" backend for cyrusdb. Currently MySQL,
   PostgreSQL, and SQLite are supported.
* Added support for IMAP [CAPABILITY] response code to client-side
   of Murder proxies.
* Added support for ManageSieve auto-capability response after
STARTTLS and after AUTH with a SASL security layer.
* Made MAXWORD and MAXQUOTED sizes configurable via imapd.conf
* Rewrote cyrusdb_quotalegacy.c to use readir()
rather than glob.c. This avoids a potential crash due to
conflicts between glibc and Heimdal implementations of glob().
* Added support for fulldirhash to 'ctl_mboxlist -v'
* Several skiplist transaction bugfixes.
* cyr_expire no longer has a default of 0 (zero) for -X and -D.
These options must be used explicitly in order to have the desired
   effect.
* Added sieve_utf8fileinto option.
* Added sieve_sasl_send_unsolicited_capability and
   sieve_sasl_expect_unsolicited_capability options.
* Several 32/64-bit compatibility fixes.

Cyrus IMAPd 2.2.3 Released

2004-01-15 Thread Rob Siemborski
-BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-
Hash: SHA1

I'm quite pleased to announce the long-awaited stable release of Cyrus
IMAPd 2.2.3. This release contains substantial new features over the 2.1
series including extensive support for mailbox annotations, NNTP, much
more stable process accounting, and of course, virtual domains.

This release also contains support for Berkeley DB 4.2, runtime
configuration of cyrusdb backends, a socket map daemon compatible with
Sendmail 8.13, and much more.

This release has been successfully deployed on a large scale at Carnegie
Mellon University.

A full change list is available in doc/changes.html in the distribution.

Upgrade notes are available in doc/install-upgrade.html in the
distribution.

I'd like to thank all of the members of the community who have worked so
hard on the development and testing of the new features that we now
support. We really couldn't have done it without them.

Okay, that's fine. From what I know you can only look up the defaults in
the sources. However, until you configure pther db's in imapd.conf, you
are always using the defaults which should be fine. IIRC the mailboxes db
is skiplist that way, which is the most import db.

With later 2.1.14 and probably 2.2 you can use the 'version' command
with cyradm to find that stuff out.

The DB types aren't shown the in the version info because they are no
longer compile-time selected, they are run-time selected via imapd.conf.
The only stuff listed via the version command (IMAP ID command) are
compile-time choices.

You have to configure your syslog daemon the right way. Given that you
are using the syslogd a possible syslog.conf line looks then like:

local6.info;local6.!debug /var/log/cyruslog

Usually this is done in /etc/syslog.conf.

Re: Cyrus IMAPd logging

2004-08-10 Thread AJ
I have already done this, but I was wondering if there is a way to tell
cyrus not to log at such a high level, such as the sendmail LogLevel
directive.
I was wondering if it would save any system resources to not even
produce these type of debug messages.

cyrus-imapd appears dead

2004-09-03 Thread Michael Ballard
OK, my spin-off thread from INBOX issue

Configuration files: http://thesewer.net/cyrusimapd/help/

System: Fedora Core 2

[EMAIL PROTECTED] modules]# rpm -qa | grep cyrus
cyrus-sasl-devel-2.1.18-2
cyrus-imapd-2.2.3-11
cyrus-imapd-utils-2.2.3-11
cyrus-sasl-md5-2.1.18-2
cyrus-sasl-2.1.18-2
cyrus-sasl-plain-2.1.18-2
[EMAIL PROTECTED] modules]# rpm -q sendmail
sendmail-8.12.11-4.6
[EMAIL PROTECTED] modules]# rpm -q squirrelmail
squirrelmail-1.4.3-1

My problem is simple. cyrus-imapd doesn't appear to be working. With all my config
files as they are, I receive E-mail, but must use Webmin or SSH to check it. I can't
get it through IMAP. Mozilla Mail reports no messages on the server. Squirrelmail
reports:

"ERROR:
ERROR : Could not complete request.
Query: CREATE "mail/Sent"
Reason Given: Invalid mailbox name"

I've used cyradm to create the mailboxes user.baleful and user.mballard and all the
others, but same error all across. I've tried making user.baleful.Sent and that
returns the same error in Squirrelmail.

What I originally had was Fedora Core 1 with uw-imap, and it worked. Only problem was
that I couldn't figure out smtp relaying (based on authentication). From what I
understood, I needed this cyrus-imapd and cyrus-sasl thinggy...which have been
implemented into FC2. So I figure, hey! No problem, now it will all work right! But it
never has.

When I tweak my sendmail.mc file and include the lines that are commented out by

dnl #Added by baleful for cyrus-imapd

I get no mail at all. I can still send, but cannot receive. Then I take those lines
back out, and get my E-mail again.

I don't know if I'm being very clear or not, but I hope I am, because I'm at my wits'
end with this; and I start school soon, which will be grueling enough.

Thanks for your help!

Cyrus IMAPd 2.4.1 Released

2010-10-18 Thread Dave McMurtrie
I am pleased to announce the release of Cyrus IMAPd 2.4.1. This is
primarily a bugfix release to the 2.4 branch that fixes several bugs
that were reported since the 2.4.0 release.

We recommend that anyone using 2.4.0 upgrade to 2.4.1. Notable changes
in the release are as follows:

- Fix cyrdump to work with -C for alternate config
- Change master to process all pending child messages once per loop,
which fixes a DoS situation if there is too much message churn in a
slower box - thanks to Henrique de Moraes Holschuh
- Reconstruct added flags -R, -U, -o, -O to give options handling
corrupt or missing files
- Reconstruct fixed a pile of bugs, including a nasty one which created

Cyrus IMAPd 2.4.2 Released

2010-10-19 Thread Bron Gondwana
I am pleased to announce the release of Cyrus IMAPd 2.4.2.
This is a single fix to 2.4.1 to remove strcasestr so that
it compiles on Solaris.

There is no need to upgrade unless you are having compliation
problems with 2.4.1.

My apologies for the compilation problems. I have now tested
this on a Solaris 10 box and confirmed the bug is fixed!
