RE: [info-tech] iPad pro/con
Now that I have finally read about this iPad, I'm going to put in the my two cents. I don't think it would be the greatest thing to replace 1:1 laptops because like Tim said, it just won't do all the big things like editing videos or doing CAD. I do think that it would make a great tool for putting all the text books on and stuff like that but it won't do everything that a laptop will. Also we have found a piece of equipment similar to the iPad with a detachable keyboard, it's the Touch Book from Always Innovating. I'm sure you have seen it but it looks much more intriguing to me. Only because it doesn't run Mac software ( I don't like Apple, sorry you Mac fans). Re: [info-tech] phones/intercom
Jackie, I think part of is the key. It is tough to rely on the phone system alone as an intercom because it does not cover the halls and rooms without phones. That said, you can easily tie most phone systems to an paging amp to get the best of both using paging groups. You will want to make sure the group page does not activate the microphones on the phones (this should not be an issue for most vendors), and check for delay between the page and output to the phones. My guess is Lance is experiencing echo caused by delay (paging output hits the hall speakers before the phones, or the opposite). I have had success both ways. The best solution is a speaker in every room. You could still tie the phone system to it and use that as a source. With budgets being what they are, though, you could save some money by using the classroom phones as part of the paging system.
