[info-tech] Managing iPods/iPads and Magic TV Remote

2010-11-09 Thread Karl Hehr
I need help on a couple items today:
1) If you have iPods/iPads in your district how are you managing them?
2) I have a TV in my cafe that I want to come on at a certain time and turn off
at a certain time, what magic tools would allow me to do that?

We have 40 iPod Touches and are using my desktop with one cardless iTunes
account that I refill with gift cards. I use the iPhone configuration
utility to lock them down.

I have gone through the set up process with staff. Each elementary
grade level has a set of iPod Touches to use in the classroom, and a
grade level iTunes account. Each elementary building also has one of
the syncing cases to use to sync apps to their iPod Touches. I also
have purchased iTunes gift cards for each grade level so they can
purchase apps. With the home sharing feature in iTunes they can
purchase apps and share them with one another across grade levels. (I
also receive the receipt each time they purchase something -- a must)
Basically, each grade level is responsible for managing their classroom
set of iPod Touches. Currently we have around 70 Touches with another
20 + some iPads on the way.

Below are the apps I have purchased/downloaded to use for demos with
staff. Some of my favorites as well as staff favorites are the ABA
apps, Alien Math, Learn Sight Words (dolche word list practice-- it's
awesome), Spelldown, iWriteWords, US States. Just out of coolness the
Star Walk one is neat for the iPad; my daughter made me download it
after watching the commercial several times. :-) I liked the iScore
Baseball app for keeping softball stats this summer -- coolness for me.

I have only started to look at the CASPER add-on, I am not sure it
does much other than inventory what is on them.

Right now we have the 16gb iPads paid $499 for them, and 32 GB iPods, not sure
what I paid each for them as it was a bundle of 20 and a case for around $6500

Re: [info-tech] Managing iPods/iPads and Magic TV Remote

2010-11-09 Thread Jackie Fonley
I am getting the 16GB models iPads (which were the $499 model), which for
purposes now will suffice memory wise. This next shipment of Touches we are
getting will be the 64 GB model, as they will not only be an additional Touch
for our centers/activity stations . . . but teachers were also wanting a
digital camera and video camera for their classrooms . . . so we went all
out in regard to memory so these Touches can also be used for those various
uses. Not sure what the pricing was for that group.

We have some 16 GB and some 32 GB. The 16 holds tons of apps, would only need
more space if you're going to load it up with video.
