I would be interested. It has some sort of transfer switch so that it charges 1/2 the computers at a time. All computer will charge overnight. This just ensures that the laptop charging does not exceed the current rating of the electrical systems. -- Original Message -- From: Brad Kruse [EMAIL PROTECTED] Reply-To: info-tech@aea8.k12.ia.us Date: Wed, 12 Jan 2005 10:08:03 -0600 Does anyone have a suggestion for a 15 to 20 notebook computer cart that includes electrical outlets for recharging and a place for setting a printer? Re: [info-tech] Notebook Computer Carts
We bought one of the Bretford carts from the co-op several years ago to house the 16 Mac iBooks we bought. It's been wonderful. Last year we got a Star Schools grant and bought 20 laptops. THey were Gateways and were bigger than the iBooks. We saw that Bretford made a larger cart that would hold up to 24 computers so we purchased it. Big Mistake!! The computers have to be laid flat rather than standing up. The plugins are in the front on the sides of 2 panels. (Not in the back the way they are on the smaller cart.) These are close enough together that the students can barely get the computers put in. When some are in the cart and plugged in it is a struggle to put away any others. And the 2 sides of the cart have to be plugged into 2 separate electrical circuits. (I wish we had seen that timer sooner.) Our janitor is trying to redo the cart to make it more useable, but it's a big problem. So I would not suggest buying that cart. -- Donna Bonnstetter Tech Coordinator West Bend-Mallard Community School Box 247 West Bend, IA 50597 [EMAIL PROTECTED] ^^ Take care of your body as if you were going to live forever. Donna, Bretford sells the timer to retro-fit older carts as well. I think we may have the timer on the spring co-op. _ Scott Fosseen - Systems Engineer -Prairie Lakes AEA http://fosseen.us/scott _ Research by the U.S. Navy has determined that water freezes in cold weather. - Southfield Michigan newspaper _ - Original Message - From: Donna Bonnstetter [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: info-tech@aea8.k12.ia.us Sent: Thursday, January 13, 2005 11:41 AM Subject: Re: [info-tech] Notebook Computer Carts We bought one of the Bretford carts from the co-op several years ago to house the 16 Mac iBooks we bought. RE: [info-tech] Notebook Computer Carts
Bretford carts through the co-op are very reasonable - for a 16-unit cart is about $367 plus $77 for a 15-unit electrical panel. I have found that you can get two laptops per opening if necessary. May have to rotate electrical charging if you use the electrical panel. We tried for Star Schools grant - rejected for two years in a row. Maybe our 350 mhz lab makes us too far advanced with technology to qualify. B. Ney N.
