[info-tech] Student Email Accounts
I'm interested in what other districts are doing about student email. We've never had a solution here, and it's turning into a real problem for us as we try to do more and more with wikis and blogging and so forth. Do you have email addresses for your students? What grades? Do you get parental permission? And so on. Just what is your policy and what solution do you use? Thanks! Sarah Sarah M. We are using SmarterMail hosted through the AEA for grades 5-12 at the moment. Have you looked into Google Apps for Education, and getting all students set up with Gmail? --- Timothy A. Re: [info-tech] Student Email Accounts
We just gave grades 6-12 email accounts last week. We did not get parental permission though. We are using the AEA's Smarter Mail solution for staff and students now so they are both in one local spot. -- Jon Kruse Technology Coordinator Laurens-Marathon CSD On Sep 16, 2010, at 8:13 AM, Sarah Freking wrote: I'm interested in what other districts are doing about student email. Re: [info-tech] Student Email Accounts
we allow students to use their email accounts for any of the google apps they are using, wikis/blogging, etc. -- it's a per classroom basis. I think most have their own google account . . . for students who do not have email, I have given them a school email account (I think I have only needed to do this twice @ the hs) No real uniform set up . . . younger levels teachers work with parents (my 5th grade daughter, for example, - I helped her at home set up to join her classroom wiki . . . ) On Sep 16, 2010, at 8:13 AM, Sarah Freking wrote: I'm interested in what other districts are doing about student email. Right now we use an in-house solution hMail Server. http://www.hmailserver.com/ - best part about it is that it is free. Not very robust, but does the job. We use it mostly for the purpose that you are needing.
