[Inkscape-translator] Plurals for 0.92

2016-11-27 Thread Marcin Floryan
I'm trying to push the Polish translation for 0.92 and I have noticed a few
places where plurals would make sense.

This is one such example in export.cpp

   prog_dlg =
create_progress_dialog(Glib::ustring::compose(_("Exporting %1 files"),
num));
prog_dlg->set_data("exportPanel", this);
setExporting(true, Glib::ustring::compose(_("Exporting %1 files"),
num));

I could change the code and push it into the branch but I wonder if it's a
little late. Should I fix it in master instead or leave it out as a minor
thing?

Thanks,
Marcin

In some strings the measurment notation is in normal paranthesis
(example: Vertical shift (px)), while in other strings the notation is
in square bracket (example: Radius [px]).

Is there any particular reason for one or another ?

I wouldn't think there is really. I suspect it simply depends on who
wrote the initial string.

Perhaps someone who knows English punctuation and editorial rules
could say which is correct.

There is not filters.svg.h file, but if i remove filters/filters.svg.h
and patterns/patterns.svg.h (on both files make die) from POTFILES.in,
I get updated POT without translatable filters messages.

This one is simplethough - you have to go yo /share/ and execute make

Those .h files are created during the build process of inkscape - but
you don't have to build the whole lot to get them.

It looks like people are not happy. So I volunteer to update POT file
in SVN on weekly basis (say, every Friday night) and, additionally,
after a major change in strings (like a bunch of new SVG filters
 added). Any objections?

I really think that generating a new POT file on an automated way is a
good idea. Another projects do this and also automatically update all
the po files. I think it isn't so difficult, creating a script and
 putting it on cron...

 By the way, thanks Alexandre.

Alexandre, if you volunteer to generate the new file manually every
week I can easily set-up a little job on my server and provide an
up-to-date pot file. I have already been doing some automation of the
process for the Polish translations.

Regardless - if I can be of any help - let me know.

Also - do we envisage putting the .pot into SVN - although it is not a
big file perhaps it could be uploaded to a website (inkscape?) as in
SVN it can always be update from source code.

Hi, I'm trying to come up with a good translation to spanish of the term
Envelope deformation but I can't find any information on why it is called
 like that.
Does it have anything to do with an envelope you use to send a letter (by
snail mail)? Or maybe it has more to do with the verb envelope as in wrap
around or surround. Maybe it's someone's name.

No it is not someone's name it has to do with both the things you've
mentioned - wrapping around or surrounding - and an envelope to send a
letter is about 'wrapping around the letter'.
Envelope deformations are about changing the shape of the object by
putting it or 'forcing it' inside an envelope.

Hope this helps.

2008-02-21 Thread Marcin Floryan
The ones I added were four strings in panel.cpp that show up in the popup
menu for swatch panels (Shape, Tall, Square and Wide). Shape
refers to the desired shape for the swatches. Currently the behavior had
been to try to be square, but to allow for user choice in the bottom panel,
etc. a setting on the Tall range would make the swatch taller than it is
 wide.

Jon,

How do you plan the behaviour if there palette is really small (few
colours). It seems that at the moment the colours have to occupy the
entire visible space of the control so if there are very few (and
constrained to squares) short palettes always tend to be big. Would it
be good to have each colour a box of fixed dimensions?

Thanks for the info. I kind of supposed this could be the case.

One workaround to keep fixed size swatches would be to fill the rest of the

So when GTK+ says You get 640x40, and I don't care that you wanted 32x4,
then we go ahead and use that space so it is not just wasted.

This sounds like a fair approach. Should we then give a hint to the
users and make the swatch size a proffered size and maybe group
those in a sub-menu just like the new Shapes?

Re: [Inkscape-translator] new strings added

I've just added a few new strings in ui/widget/panel.cpp

They are for the swatches to have a submenu for changing the shape of

Does it actually work for anyone else? I tried various combinations of
sizes and shapes and I couldn't see a change in the shape.

Tested it today but it does not seem to work (or have any effects on
the UI). I added a note to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/176130

If you have the source code from SVN go to the po folder and you can
generate the most up-to-date .pot file by running the following command:
intltool-update --pot

Or you can download the .pot file here:

This was already done before.

 - Area filled, path with b%d/b nodes created.

fixed

Also, a number of messages need context split
Off top of my head again:

 - Normal (feBlend mode vs. window behaviour in Preferences)
 - Dimensions (newly committed extension vs. Filter Effects option)

added context

Alexandre, could you trouble your head a bit more about the things we
might improve further.

Patch attached - could someone please commit (tested to build on my machine).

Too bad. there is a number of places where plural forms are not used,
 whereas they should be.

We are not yet in the string freeze though if I am right. Hence some
changes should be all right. I can volunteer to make the necessary
code changes as required.

Re: [Inkscape-translator] Polish translation

2008-02-10 Thread Marcin Floryan
I've read that there's now a translation team, great!
I've just committed your .po, as I've seen that it contains a great
  improvement over previous translation.
Please note that you now need to manually merge it with latest .pot
catalog, as your pl.po is precedent to the general update.

Done, but we waiting for Marcin Floryan (Marcin is our team member) patch
which resolve tooltips problem. W have to checking for another not
translated strings. Now we have 98% and working for 100%. :)

Hey! There is nothing to wait for as you should have noticed this bug
has already been solved and committed. Will hopefully benefit all
translations.

[Inkscape-translator] New open group for Polish translation.

2008-02-09 Thread Marcin Floryan
Hello!

As there are more people actively working on the Polish translation
and in an effort to improve Polish translation of Inkscape and
facilitate contact among all people interested and involved in the
process I have created a new public group:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
It is open to everyone to subscribe and join should they wish so.

You can also find the group at the following address:
Group home page: http://groups.google.com/group/inscape-translation-pl

Through the use of this group all decisions taken regarding
translation will hopefully become transparent and easily accessible
for the entire community.

Uwe,

The phrases come from verbs.cpp source file and if you use the updated
inkspace.pot file and update the de.po against this catalogue
(available here: ) you should see there relevant string to translate.
(Please refer to https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/179209)

Though the above mentioned bug may still prevent those tooltips from
showing properly.
