The brand new Lombok International Airport named Bandara International Lombok 
(BIL) located in the West Nusa Tenggara Province, will be fully operational on 
October 1, 2011. Lombok is Bali’s immediate neighbor to its east.
The new Lombok International Airport is located at Tanak Awu, in the Central 
Lombok District, 30 kilometers or an hour’s drive Southeast of Mataram, capital 
of West Nusa Tenggara. With its opening, the currently operating Selaparang 
Airport is scheduled to close all flight services from September 30, 2011, at 
1800 hours Central Indonesia Time.
“Many people have questioned and doubted the opening, but I can assure you, and 
there is no doubt whatsoever, that the Lombok International Airport will start 
operations starting October 1, said Ridwan Syah, Head of the Transportation, 
Communication, and Information Office of West Nusa Tenggara Province, at the 
meeting with related government institutions, airlines, and tourism 
stakeholders in Mataram, on Thursday, September 22, 2011, as reported by 
Kompas.com.
The newly-built BIL encompasses a total area of 551 hectares and has a 
2,750-meter-long runway to accommodate wide-bodied aircrafts such as the Airbus 
A 330 and certain types of Boeing 737 or Boeing 747. The airport features a 
21,000 m2 terminal area projected to handle 3 million passengers per year and 
is completed with all necessary facilities such as taxiway, apron, VIP 
facilities, and information facilities.
To support the new airport, a new bus route has been established from Mataram 
and Senggigi to BIL. The special buses serving the route have a capacity of 40 
passengers and its visual designs are also aimed to promote tourism in Lombok 
and West Nusa Tenggara. The fare from/to Mataram’s Mandalika Bus Terminal is 
around IDR 15,000 to 20,000 and from/to Senggigi around IDR 20,000 to 25,000. 
Taxis will also be available to take passengers around the fabled island of 
Lombok.
BIL was initiated since the 90s, during Warsito’s tenure as NTB Governor. It 
was started with the view that the present Selaparang Airport will in the 
future be overloaded with passengers, considering that Lombok was gradually 
growing into a significant tourism destination. Today, the current Selaparang 
Airport is no longer adequate since it has a capacity to serve a maximum 
850,000 passengers per year only, while airplane passengers have already 
exceeded 1.2 million.
Currently, the Selaparang Airport serves domestic airlines including Garuda 
Indonesia, Lion Air, Batavia Air, Wings Air - also known as Lion Wings Air 
(Lion Air), and Trigana. While internationally, SilkAir serves the Singapore to 
Lombok route. From October 1, 2011, these airlines will surely land at the 
brand new Lombok International Airport. With the opening of the new Lombok 
International Airport, more domestic and international airlines are expected to 
include Lombok in their routes, and the splendors of this splendid island will 
become more easily accessible.

mountain and gets surprisingly cold up there.

Lombok's tropical monsoon climate has two distinct seasons; dry (May to

However, even in the wet monsoon the rain tends to be localized and short 
lived. 
Weather-wise May, June and July are generally considered the best.

General Overview of Lombok Island 
The Lombok Island is located in Indonesia and has many attractions making it an 
ideal place for tourist vacation and sight-seeing. The Lombok island is located 
in east of Bali. Lombok Island have a gifted natural beauty, mesmerizing people 
via its picturesque landscape, unparallel Flora and Fauna, and the white sand 
beaches. Lombok Island have a reputation of a tourist place to relax and unwind 
but it is also home to the most adventurous sports and therefore also caters to 
the demands of extreme sport levers.
Lombok Island has the third largest volcano in Indonesia named, Mount Rinjani 
with a height of 3726 meters and its crater lake is called  Segara Anak. Well, 
from a tourist point of view the best time to visit Lombok Island is in mid May 
when the temperature is just ideal with bright daylight and natural greenery at 
its peak. Lombok Island has a wet season from November to May and a dry season 
from May to October.
Lombok Island is home to 3.7 million Indonesians and the local people of Lombok 
are called Sasaks. Most of these natives are capable of conversing in many 
languages like Indonesian, Chinese, Arabic and others. They also have a local 
Sarsak dialect of their own. Lombok has broadly three main districts namely 
Mataram in the west, Praya in central and Selong in east Lombok.
The capital city of Mataram is the commercial center of Indonesia catering to 
its population which is mainly Muslim. Every Friday noon the Muslims assemble 
in 
the Mosque for their pray. If as a tourist you are willing to traverse across 
villages and local areas then it is advisable for you to wear  decent clothes, 
i.e. knee length shorts and a shirt. Also if you happen to visit Lombok islands 
during the month of Ramadan then remember not to eat, drink, smoke etc in open 
as it is a month of fast for the natives.
The natives also have a deep belief in Wetu Telu, it is a unique religion that 
blends together Islam – Animism and is mainly found in north Lombok. These 
people consider themselves as Muslims but follow their own rituals in addition 
to the Islam rituals. One of such ritual is a ceremony called Nyiu which takes 
place after 1000 days of someone’s demise where the relatives of dead person 
offer materials like clothing, food and other daily stuff so as the deceased 
can 
live peacefully in heaven.
While enjoying your trip in Lombok Island you can also use the services of 
several money-changers located around the island. The best conversion rates are 
offered in the city of Senggigi. Also if you have travelers check the rate will 
be  less than bank notes. However it is advisable to check your money in front 
of the cashier. Also when exchanging money try and get smaller denominations to 
aid you in local shopping.
Lombok also has availability of taxis and local buses. In addition to this you 
can also rent a car or bike and go on to travel Lombok all by yourself.

Rinjani bring a sweater, at 3,726 meters it is Indonesia's second tallest 
mountain and gets surprisingly cold up there.

Lombok's tropical monsoon climate has two distinct seasons; dry (May to 
September) and wet (October to March). Monsoon refers to the wind, not the 
rain. 
However, even in the wet monsoon the rain tends to be localized and short 
lived. 
Weather-wise May, June and July are generally considered the best.

General Overview of Lombok Island 
The Lombok Island is located in Indonesia and has many attractions making it an 
ideal place for tourist vacation and sight-seeing. The Lombok island is located 
in east of Bali. Lombok Island have a gifted natural beauty, mesmerizing people 
via its picturesque landscape, unparallel Flora and Fauna, and the white sand 
beaches. Lombok Island have a reputation of a tourist place to relax and unwind 
but it is also home to the most adventurous sports and therefore also caters to 
the demands of extreme sport levers.
Lombok Island has the third largest volcano in Indonesia named, Mount Rinjani 
with a height of 3726 meters and its crater lake is called  Segara Anak. Well, 
from a tourist point of view the best time to visit Lombok Island is in mid May 
when the temperature is just ideal with bright daylight and natural greenery at 
its peak. Lombok Island has a wet season from November to May and a dry season 
from May to October.
Lombok Island is home to 3.7 million Indonesians and the local people of Lombok 
are called Sasaks. Most of these natives are capable of conversing in many 
languages like Indonesian, Chinese, Arabic and others. They also have a local 
Sarsak dialect of their own. Lombok has broadly three main districts namely 
Mataram in the west, Praya in central and Selong in east Lombok.
The capital city of Mataram is the commercial center of Indonesia catering to 
its population which is mainly Muslim. Every Friday noon the Muslims assemble 
in 
the Mosque for their pray. If as a tourist you are willing to traverse across 
villages and local areas then it is advisable for you to wear  decent clothes, 
i.e. knee length shorts and a shirt. Also if you happen to visit Lombok islands 
during the month of Ramadan then remember not to eat, drink, smoke etc in open 
as it is a month of fast for the natives.
The natives also have a deep belief in Wetu Telu, it is a unique religion that 
blends together Islam – Animism and is mainly found in north Lombok. These 
people consider themselves as Muslims but follow their own rituals in addition 
to the Islam rituals. One of such ritual is a ceremony called Nyiu which takes 
place after 1000 days of someone’s demise where the relatives of dead person 
offer materials like clothing, food and other daily stuff so as the deceased 
can 
live peacefully in heaven.
While enjoying your trip in Lombok Island you can also use the services of 
several money-changers located around the island. The best conversion rates are 
offered in the city of Senggigi. Also if you have travelers check the rate will 
be  less than bank notes. However it is advisable to check your money in front 
of the cashier. Also when exchanging money try and get smaller denominations to 
aid you in local shopping.
Lombok also has availability of taxis and local buses. In addition to this you 
can also rent a car or bike and go on to travel Lombok all by yourself.

Lombok is seeing a renewed popularity since late 2005 with already many house 
and villa developments built or being build in and around Senggigi, Sekotong 
and 
Kuta in South Lombok. Because of this recent popularity, asking prices for real 
estate are subsequently on the increase.
The south of Lombok has also become more preferable with potential 
buyers because the construction of a new international airport in central 
Lombok 
has started, which is planned to be completed in 2011.

Lombok
Lombok is about three-quarters the size of Bali and is estimated to have, 
surprisingly, approximately 2.5 million inhabitants making it slightly more 
densely populated than Bali. As well, Lombok lies only 8o (375km) South of the 
equator. As such, the weather is tropical. Days are almost universally 12 hours 
long with sunrise at approximately 6:20 a.m. and sunset at 6:30 p.m. depending 
on the time of year. The daytime temperature averages between 27o C to 32o C 
(80o F to 90o F) along the western coastal area (the main tourist venue). 
Average temperature inland is 29o C to 34o C. Moreover, if you plan to climb 
Mt. 
Rinjani bring a sweater, at 3,726 meters it is Indonesia's second tallest 
mountain and gets surprisingly cold up there.

Lombok's tropical monsoon climate has two distinct seasons; dry (May to 
September) and wet (October to March). Monsoon refers to the wind, not the 
rain. 
However, even in the wet monsoon the rain tends to be localized and short 
lived. 
Weather-wise May, June and July are generally considered the best.
