[IRCA] 830 kHz 1:40 am WEEU? under WCCO

2010-09-11 Thread George Sherman
Heard them say call letters but could only make out the W. at 1:05am CDT I
heard them say what sounded like "more news, more often", then something about
exercise, then "Coast to Coast 1-800"-???-, then "sorry to keep you
waiting" at :30 "Talk Radio". The MA & NC stations aren't listed on Coast to
Coast website, only CA & PA. So might I claim it as heard? Also, something
interesting WCCO co-broadcasting with WBZ right now, with WBZ running about a
second behind. 73, George S., MN

[IRCA] a little TA audio

2010-09-11 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
The big one here for me seems to be 1053, couple of men talking in the murk and
splash; if I could grab a few words, I might be able to verify using the
TalkSport webstream, but all I can say is that the tone of the voices is
similar, not enough for an ID.

A little talk also on 1377, likely France. Had a big carrier on 1251 which is
a bit of a mystery.

best wishes,

Nick

Re: [IRCA] Lotsa West Coast TA hets

2010-09-11 Thread Kevin S
I just had some weak audio on 1062 (Denmark?), but unfortunately it is
very close in bearing to 1060-Calgary, so no chance of nulling the pest,
and it was mostly mumbling in the splash. 1377 is still the strongest
het, but 1380-Everett will likely keep it from turning into anything. In
the last half hour, the freqs you mention below, plus 783, 1269, 1278 1341
and 1422 had weak hets. This is on an Icom R75, and a 9x10 foot indoor
Super Loop with the Wellbrook FLG-100 feeding it.

Re: [IRCA] ESPN Deportes on 1260

2010-09-11 Thread Bruce Portzer

 Neil

At 0400 UT I had a mix of CFRN and KPOW, but at 0403 they faded down and
Spanish talk took over. By 0405 it was a mix of all three with CFRN
mostly dominating. My Spanish isn't all that good, but the SS station
mentioned futbol among other things. I don't know if it's KWEI, but if
it's them it sounds too strong for the listed 60 watts night power and
too weak for the listed 10 kw day power.

KRIZ-1420 in Renton WA has been off the air for several days. The
programming is still being carried on the station's web site www.ztwins.com

According to the FCC website, KRIZ lost the use of its transmitter site
last spring and was granted an STA in June to diplex onto the KYIZ-1620
tower using 250/125 watts. I'm not sure how this relates to the
station's current silence.

Rumor has it that there's a 1 watt signal emanating from the Toledo area
tonight. At 2230 I'm hearing a fairly continuous whoop-whoop siren sound
underneath the dominant felame vocalist.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-11

2010-09-11 Thread D1028Gary
Hello All,

Asiatic propagation was very good again this morning, with the "big gun"
Japanese TP's like 594, 747 and 774 kHz having strong signals like
yesterday. The Chinese stations on 639, 756, 927, 936 and 1377 which had been
producing threshold audio are now fading in and out with weak Chinese, and the
first strong TP mix of the season was recorded on 1134 kHz, with JOQR and KBS
both fighting it out with good signal strength.
A mystery music station continues to be heard under the 1053-Korean Jammer,
and another mystery Japanese station continues to weakly show up on 738
kHz (when Taiwan loses its usual propagation edge). The duration of sunrise
enhancement continues to be short in this inland location, even with good
propagation-- TP signals usually have collapsed around 1335 here recently.
Congratulations to Richard Allen for receiving several TP's on his
Tecsun PL-310 Ultralight in Oklahoma-- a remarkable example of the skillful
use of propagation. The new DX Season should provide a lot of excitement for
those ULR-DXers (and others) willing to "push their luck" in a similar
manner!

The following were received on a C.Crane SWP Slider model (7.5" loopstick)
inductively coupled to a 7.5' PVC tuned passive loop in the back yard:

558 JOCR Kobe, Japan Fair signal around peak propagation at 1318
594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Good strength with Japanese program at 1307
603 HLSA (presumed) Threshold audio around 1320, apparently Korean
639 CNR1 Beijing, China Weak music and Chinese speech in and out at 1322
648 VOR Razdolnoye, Russia Weak Chinese speech at 1317, faded fast
657 Pyongyang N. Korea Moderate buzzing signal and Korean tirades, 1320
666 JOBK Osaka, Japan Typically strong like the other NHK "big guns"
this
  morning; nice Japanese at 1314
_http://www.mediafire.com/?ll5y2w1kc27gc33_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?ll5y2w1kc27gc33)
738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Fair Chinese pop music and speech from 1305-1335
738 UnID Japan Weaker than yesterday, but threshold Japanese still
under BEL2
747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Strongest of the Japanese here, but degraded by
KXL
756 CNR1 China Weak Chinese domestic program in and out throughout
morning
774 JOUB Akita, Japan Vibrant signals at 1310, but not as vibrant as
KTTH splatter
828 JOBB Osaka, Japan NHK2 "big gun" all alone with good signals at
1325
927 China (presumed) Threshold audio occasionally became weak Chinese,
1319
936 China (presumed) Another weak station playing hide and seek around
1318
972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Fair to good Korean program throughout
morning
1053 Korean Jammer Buzzing along at fair strength over UnID music station
1053 UnID Classical-type music over and under the Jammer around 1333
1134 JOQR Tokyo, Japan (and KBS, Hwaseong, S. Korea) The first strong TP
mix of the new season at 1332
_http://www.mediafire.com/?f6a6f6j306jnoig_
(http://www.mediafire.com/?f6a6f6j306jnoig)
1377 CNR1 China Another Chinese station producing anemic audio around
1324
1566 HLAZ Jeju, S. Korea Strong signal during Japanese religious
program, 1309
1575 VOA Ban Rassom, Thailand Deep fades during Asiatic language program
1593 China (presumed) First weak Chinese audio of the season heard here
at 1333

Hey Bruce:

I had about what you had, plus a couple additions. The Super Loop/FLG-100
made 774 possible with 770 in a good back null. Also, I had really good
reception of 594 and 747, so perhaps 10 miles away makes a difference.

[IRCA] TP DX This morning

2010-09-11 Thread Bruce Portzer
With everyone else hearing TPs now, I decided it was time to start
listening.

I recorded from 1220 to 1340 this morning and found conditions ok for
this early in the season, but not all that impressive. There were lots
of carriers in the low and mid part of the band, with audio on a few of
them. I didn't check the upper part of the band.

Decent audio, mostly understandable by a native speaker, although only
briefly

 972 Korea

Fair audio, bits and pieces understandable by a native speaker
1206 China

Weak audio, program content recognizable but but not understandable
693 828 Japan

Carriers only
594 666 738 747 963 1017 1026 1035 1278 1287

Conspicuously absent (no sign of them)
657 774, the latter probably buried in 770 splatter

Nick must be doing something right, judging from his report.

[IRCA] TP for 11 Sep from Victoria, BC

2010-09-11 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Slept in a bit today, so didn't start until 1315UT. Still pretty lively then,
though perhaps not as hot as yesterday morning. Emphasis again on Japanese
signals mostly.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least
briefly):

774 JOUB
828 JOBB
1566 HLAZ

reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a
native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK //594
594 JOAK though often poorer than this
747 JOIB
954 JOKR at 1329
972 HLCA
1287 JOHR
1575 VoA

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be
understood by a native speaker

846 //594 and better strength at this time; JOCP most likely of the synchros
873 JOGB //828
1134 JOQR JJ talk,
1143 likely Taiwan; no // today

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by
cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) :

558 talk, too poor to get anything from it
837 //594, JOQK
963 mx, not //5915, so not sure if CRI or not
1053 huge carrier, with the KK jammer there first, then faded u/talk by man at
1326UT; JOAR?
1242 JJ inflection to talk; probably JOLF
1377 mystery, not //4460 or 828
1386 //828; NHK2 synchros

Strongish het, no audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter):

936, 1044, 1098, 1475

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Alberta TP/DU for 11 Sep 2010

2010-09-11 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Yes, Steve and I seem to be getting out of sync, as this was easily
the best TP morning thus far, with audio from the following:

567 - Japan
594 - Japan
693 - Japan
738 - unID w/woman speaking at 1157, perhaps Taiwan
747 - Japan
774 - Japan
828 - Japan
972 - S.Korea
1089 - unID, with traces of audio at 1159
1566 - S.Korea
1575 - VOA Thailand

But, I haven't entirely left the "parallel universe" as Gary termed it,
as the DU signals also made an appearance at the top end of the dial
just before sunrise.

1422 - faint traces of audio
1476 - noted with music at 1258
1521 - faint music, Aussie-accented man in English
1548 - 4QD, with talk, then ABC news theme music at 1300
1566 - 3NE, music, mixing with Korea after 1250 UTC
1628.95 - The same country music station I heard last week, but very weak.

73,

Nigel Pimblett

[IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Saturday

2010-09-11 Thread Steve Ratzlaff
Lots of hets, not much audio today. 594 weak Asian talk at 1325 probably the
best. 774 poor Asian talk; 891 with DU and Asian mixing, both poor/weak.

[IRCA] 650 with NOS/Jazz?

2010-09-11 Thread Marc DeLorenzo
Correct. When I lived in Newton, MA and this station (WSRO-650) was a local, I
noticed many times that they did not switch to night power (listed as 9 watts)
until exactly 2 hours after local sunset. So, they must have a PSSA.

This guy sometimes switches power somewhat late (perhaps legally with a PSSA?)
s I've had them a few times from Grafton WI on the ENE BOGs which null WSM
eeply. 73 KAZ

It's MA, heard some Portuguese vocals ... then back to the instrumental jazz
tuff.

Add 999 Spain to the mix, and a few more hets...

Pre-sunset here, and on east-west BOG have jazz alone on 650, more on the
oft NOStalgia side of things. No ID between first two tunes I've heard - at
922 EDT. Not //860 CJBC but not sure what CBF Montreal is doing... (there is a
0-watt relay)

Saudi audio 1521, nothing else huge yet. Very few hets.

[IRCA] 690 Gravelbourg SA

2010-09-11 Thread Saul DX
is strong at 4 am at Burnt River ON ... for anyone who needs it. On the Tecsun
380, first time for that as last few times have been on the Sangean portable
and Rat Shack loop.

730 in Frank Merrill Wl has also been strong, which I doubt it should be here.

690 had tantalizing mix of Spanish stations when I went to sleep at 0100. One
likely Mexico City but not sure, the other uncertain. What I suspect was El
Paso KTSM was also in the mix with a definite "NewsRadio" slogan.

940 is dominated by Mex City off-frequency. Strong.
