If the DSN Radio mentioned at the bottom of the website is who i think it

station... a licensed commercial outlet.

I'd like to believe this is a part 15 station, the owner had a whole

honest, it wouldnt surprise me/I wouldn't put it past him to stretch the
truth about being #1 or stretch the truth about being legal.

Rich,

At the last IRCA convention in Flagstaff a group of us when to the studios in a
strip mall. A person inside look at our group through the blinds. The station
was in the X band and probably the 1650 station.  We also track down a station
that ran a long wore antenna that was located in a industrial area of
Flagstaff. A man in the area thought we were going to steal the long wire for
scrap. The stations antenna r tower fell down and they were using a long wire
antenna.  It was a great convention hosted by Bill block.

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-26

2013-09-26 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

It was an excellent morning here for both the Asian big guns and the
second-tier Chinese stations, especially the CRI foreign service stations on
963, 1017 and 1044. The 963-CRI Russian service managed its best signal here in
years with a vibrant fade in at 1336, while the 1017-CRI Korean service did the
same thing with potent signals at 1342. Rare Chinese audio on 918 (Shandong?)
started off the session around 1305, and there was also fair Chinese audio on
603, 639, 756, 936, 981, 1377 and 1593.

657-Pyongyang finally had some welcome competition from a fair-strength Chinese
station (Henan?) around 1343, while 603 was quite a battleground all morning
with HLSA and the Chinese station (Hulun Buir?) fighting it out at roughly
equal strength. 738-BEL2 in Taiwan was back with the Chinese male host taking
calls only from females during his weird talk show (congratulations to Dennis
for hearing it this morning), and although 1143 did manage a few moments of
threshold Chinese audio at times, the mystery station didn't seem to be
parallel to 738 (once again). Almost all of the Asian big guns (594, 693, 747,
774, 828, 972, 1053, 1134, 1287, 1566 and 1575) had very good to excellent
audio at times this morning, with 972-HLCA the most potent of the bunch with
Korean female talk at 1355. In summary it was a very interesting and diverse
session, and certainly one of the best in the new season.

738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Call-in talk show theme music at 1340,

[IRCA] TP Lions Bay 26 Sep 2013

2013-09-26 Thread Michael Yule
Hi all - today was an all-Sapporo today pretty much. Not much else to speak of,
except maybe 1566 booming in early, around 13:25. One thing I noted however
since 774 Akita was also very strong at 13:50+ and that is that at exactly 7
minutes before sunrise local (14:06 UTC, 7:06 PDT) there was a huge drop in
signal strength. I was recording 774 at the time, wanting to get a full ID at
the TOH, and it was perfectly readable and very strong up until 13:59 UTC -
after which it dropped out almost completely. I'm going to check on subsequent
days and see if there is a pattern.

1. Clearly understandable strong audio with reasonably long stretches of
readability so content could be understood by a native speaker

Not really, except for 774 and 1566 noted above.

2. Clearly understandable audio for short periods of time, understandable by a
native speaker

963 CRI Anhui 13:36 RR speaking male
1287 JOHR Sapporo 13:42 Two JJ males in conversation
567 JOIK Sapporo 13:46 Male speaking, JJ - some splatter

3. Barely understandable audio due to low signal strength, or fading. Some
words might have been recognizable to a native speaker

747 JOIB Sapporo 13:54 Barely legible, lots of splatter

Thanks!

Michael

[IRCA] Mostly Mexican MW DX to Enid OK, September 20-26, 2013

2013-09-26 Thread Glenn Hauser
These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also
VHF/UHF, sometimes utility, ham, which may be found in several archives without
much delay, such as

http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser

And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and
publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST:
http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html

All my MW DX reports starting two years ago are archived in this forum with
open access:
http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page15

All times and dates strictly UT. Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only;
or Sony SRF-59 as specified; Nissan stock caradio as specified; FRG-7 with E-W
longwire as specified

** MEXICO. 560, Sept 22 at 1151 UT, amid Mexican music, ID mentions Grupo Radio
Centro, and I think an FM frequency with a 6 in it. I was hoping this would be
enough to pin it down, but we have contradictory info. First thought is the DF
station, XEOC, as googling matches up 560 with GRC in the DF; maybe it once
was, but the GRC website now has an AM dial starting at 690. As for affiliates
elsewhere, can`t find any listing of them on GRC website.

IRCA Mexican Log 2012 has no GRC nets on 560. Cantú does not include nets on
the by-frequency list, but has:
560 XEOC Radio Chapultepec México, DF 750 500
And so does WRTH 2013; really low-powered compared to the other DF stations!
Other sources contradict that info: IRCA has XEOC as La Mejor with 5/5 kW, but
in the PM - Promomedios group. Perhaps one of the seven other XEs on 560 now is
a GRC station, but which? (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 560, Sept 24 at 1201 UT, full ID, AM FM for as in Cantú:
560 XESRD La Tremenda +FM 89.3 Santiago Papasquiaro, Dgo. 10,000 1,000
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 660, Sept 23 at 0512 UT, partial ID includes an FM in .7 and maybe
``La Lupita``, but these point to two different possibilities in Cantú:
660 XEACB La Lupe + FM 98.9  Cd. Delicias, Chih. 3,000 1,000
660 XEAR  La Mexicana + FM 101.7 Tampico, Tamps. 5,000 1,000
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 680, Sept 23 at 1212 UT, PSA for something in Sinaloa, then SHVA ad
or promo, 1213 ``Noticias en Punto``, 6:14 timecheck, ``en el valle del
Yaqui``, then detailed estado del tiempo (weather report). So this is again:
680 XEORO La Mera Jefa + FM 93.7 Guasave, Sin. 1,000 500
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 700, Sept 23 at 1205 UT, romantic music, ID thrice only as ``La
Poderosa``, more music, dominant until 1215 fading down, 1218 gone, but right
back up playing choral NA at very odd time, apparently very short version; 1219
bit of a song mentioning Chihuahua, but incomplete, IDs for XEGD 700 y XHGD
90.3, ``Sistema combo desde Parral``; ``Buenos días, con XEGB, La Poderosa``
singing ID, back to music. Cantú:
700 XEGD La Poderosa + FM 90.3 Hidalgo del Parral, Chih. 5,000 1,000.
No, he shows the FM is really XHEGD, following the usual pattern if the added
FM four-letter XH-- call is already assigned somewhere else (Glenn Hauser, OK,
DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 700, Sept 24 at 1203 UT, big hum added to open carrier as often
heard in mornings; station warming up for late sign-on, still hum at 1210; at
1211 some CCI in Spanish starts to appear underneath, could be KHSE TX. 1218
choral NA is in progress, 1219 full sign-on ID from XEGD, La Poderosa in
Parral, i.e. as in Cantú:
700 XEGD La Poderosa + FM 90.3 Hidalgo del Parral, Chih. 5,000 1,000
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 700, Sept 26 at 1200 UT, YL with lots of news items referring to the
``DF``, 1201 ``Noticias MVS``, Today in History segment with clips in English
of a poet, Olivia Newton-John with ``Xanadu``. Like my previous log April 25 at
1108 as in DXLD 13-18, I am still wondering which 700 station is taking this
network feed out of the DF. Obviously same one heard Sept 12 at 1201 UT with
history clips, as in DXLD 13-38, probably XEGD in Hidalgo del Parral, rather
than XEDKR in Guadalajara (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 710, Sept 26 at 1204 UT, ``iniciamos Noticiero Cuestión de
Minutos``, a rather odd name for a newscast, WM anchors chat, weather for
Chihuahua, so as expected it`s just XEDP in Cuauhtémoc, the usual dominator
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO. 720, Sept 23 at 1209 UT, low-key conversation, 1211 mentions Extremo
720, music break; Cantú still hasn`t corrected the extra zero on the night
power:
720 XEJCC Extremo 7-20 Cd. Juárez, Chih. 1,000 1, [sic]
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** MEXICO [and non]. 760, Sept 26 at 0510 UT, preacher in Spanish, but sounds
almost sane, NE/SW and way over WJR with SAH from opposite direxion, gradually
fading back up. Unseems any US SS station, leaving it to Mexico. Chihuahua
would be the obvious choice, tho none listed as totally religious; recheck

These logs are in four sexions, Canada [if any], Oklahoma [if any], rest of
USA, unidentified, separated by === Within each, they are in frequency order

** CANADA. 650, Sept 26 at 1158 UT, stuff about which MLB teams are ahead,
nothing about Canada, but then on curling in Saskatoon, which strongly makes me
suspect it`s CKOM: yes, outro as ``sports at :25 and :55 past the hours on the
CKOM Morning News``. Dominating the frequency instead of usual XETNT, and too
late for WSM or KIKK. But what about KGAB in between? 2005 NRC Pattern Book
shows CKOM nite pattern is supposed to throw everything northward, while day
pattern has only a minor lobe southward (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** OKLAHOMA [non]. 1590, Sept 22 at 1756 UT, I`m in Fairview OK for a beekeeper
meeting, so try to hear KWEY Weatherford OK, about 50 miles away instead of 75
in Enid: nope, still nothing but KVGB Great Bend KS on groundwave with ID at
1756 UT after ESPN programming.

Still suspect despite unfavorable direxionality, KWEY is really not on the air.
I was not expecting ESPN on KVGB, not among the numerous networks listed for it
in the 2013 NRC AM Log, which finally arrived today after the USPS tore up the
original envelope. Surely ESPN is nowhere near fulltime on it, maybe more on
weekends (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

===

** U S A. 650, Sept 20 at 0525 UT, now we can`t depend on 650 Spanish music
being somexican such as XETNT: WSM country song with Spanish lyrix, Gringo
accent, back to English. BTW, there`s been an interesting thread on ABDX about
how WSM`s coverage contracted drastically when they dropped AM stereo, even for
those listening in mono. Of all the 50 kW AM big guns, WSM with its music
format ought to bring AM$ back (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 670, Sept 22 at 1153 UT, KHGZ Glenwood AR is poorly audible as ``Hog
Call Sports``, in southwest Arkansas, PSA urging conservation of electricity in
the hot summer especially at 3-7 pm --- but, but, it`s no longer (very) hot,
and it`s no longer summer. Routine check earlier around 0500 did not find them
cheating this date vs WSCR Cuba (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)
{Oops, summer was still technically in effect with fall arriving later on Sept
22 mea culpa --- gh}

** U S A. 860, Sept 26 at 1227 UT, polka piece, so KKOW Pittsburg KS is still
playing a polka every morning; earlier I was hearing some news or weather from
KOAM, its ex-AM call, but now coming from the TV station of the same name
(Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 910, Sept 20 at 1133 UT, the distinctive voice of Orion Samuelson
talking about farmers` markets, and the top ten states by number of them. (BTW
it`s not like the Hunter, but ``OR-ee-un``). Break for national commercials,
and for Dakota Agronomy, a clew. Show was `National Farm Report`, ending 1137
and ``91 Classic Country KCJB`` ID, which is Minot ND, 5/5 kW U4. Per 2005 NRC
Pattern Book (still haven`t received the new 2013 edition), KCJB night pattern
is mostly north; day pattern is a tangent circle favoring SW, but plenty also
to the south. September sunrise for KCJB is not supposed to be until 1215 UT
(October 1300). (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

** U S A. 950, Sept 22 at 0510 UT, classic rock dominating, then ``Cruisin`
9-50`` non-ID. NRC AM Log 2013 shows KRWZ Parker CO 5/5 kW U4 as ``Cruisin`
Oldies`, surely close enough for a definite ID. It`s what was originally the
legendary KIMN Denver, when oldies were newies (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

** U S A. 1190, Sept 24 at 1223 UT, YL national news of México, with
subheadings interjected by OM, mentions ``la jornada``, ``electrónico de hoy``,
1226 fading a bit but program promo, 1227 definite TC as 5:27, and mentions
Fórmula. That nails it as KNUV Tolleson (Phœnix market) AZ, 5000/250 watts,
which is 24-hour newstalk with Grupo Fórmula, per NRC AM Log 2013, and except
for local timechex, evidently fed out of the DF. ¡Viva Aztlán? There is only
one real Mexican in the UT-7 zone, per Cantú, 250/100 watt XEMBC in Mexicali.

This Fórmula is heard well as long as a Clear

Re: [IRCA] A part 15 station on 1650 in Flagstaff?

2013-09-26 Thread Rick Dau

I found that link, too, Mike after doing a bit of snooping.  So KBXZ, while it
was on, was definitely an illegal operation, not a Part 15.

And Glenn, I concur with you about what the DXer (in O'Neill, Nebraska) heard.
Phonetically, KBXZ and KCNZ could very easily be mistaken for each other
when they have the same format.  It's 860 miles from Flagstaff to O'Neill, and
the odds of a flea-powered pirate making it that far (especially when there are
other stations on 1650) would be astronomical.  I HAVE to believe it was
actually KCNZ he was hearing.

It certainly exists or existed, reported a number of times as heard in and

Re: [IRCA] Alberta TAs

2013-09-26 Thread Mark Connelly
1269 has a strong enough carrier but the 1270 CJCB/WTSN mix is very strong
here, mucking up the 1269 audio most of the time.

1422 Germany and Algeria take turns here; both can be loud.

1125 is usually Spain // many other RNE's. Belgium occasionally shows up.

UK channels 693, 882, 909, 1053, 1089, 1215, and 1458 are all typically good
when the propagation is working that way.

France regulars: 603, 711, 792, 837, 864, 945, 1206, 1242, 1377, 1467, 1494,
1557.

Here on the East Coast, southerly TA's avoid the auroral zone best, so we hear
a lot of Spain, Algeria, Morocco, Canaries, etc. even when the UK, Germany, and
Netherlands are struggling to make it.

Out west, the northerly TA's can miss the auroral absorption doughnut by
skipping with low loss in the central hole region even as more southerly
stations get absorbed.

Some of the even channels make it during good conditions; these include:
630 Tunisia, Portugal
720 Canaries, Portugal
810 BBC Scotland, SER Spain, Macedonia
900 Saudi Arabia
990 Spain, Germany
1080 Spain, Iran
1170 UAE
1260 Spain (tough here with CKHJ/WMKI loud mess)
1350 France (through CKAD)
1440 Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia
1530 Sao Tome, Romania, Vatican

Some DXers will be in PEI in November. See
http://www.bamlog.com/2013planning.htm;. As Allen Willie stated, there will
be action in Newfoundland. Up there Cappahayden might also be activated. Then
there are the typical mini-DXpedition efforts around sunset at coastal sites
here in the New England states.

It should be interesting.

Mark Connelly, WA1ION
South Yarmouth, MA

Rather unusually, 1215 is not among the top bunch here in Alberta.
Germany seems favoured here, as 1269, though never strong, has been in
and out of audio several times over the past hour. A few minutes
before 0400 it was 1422 that was in quite nicely with my best TA audio
of the season thus far. France was also in on 1377. Heard traces on
1125, not sure what that was.

Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-21

2013-09-26 Thread d1028gary

Chuck,

Thanks for the information.

The 1143 Chinese station that has been playing hide and seek here is therefore
from the Mainland, which isn't surprising considering the number of Mainland
stations that come out of the woodwork here in September. I'm kind of puzzled
why 1143-BEL3 isn't showing up along with it, though, at least once in a while.

[IRCA] Alberta TP/DU for 26 Sep 2013

2013-09-26 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Conditions were quite good again today. Many more decent level
carriers than yesterday, but not a lot more in terms of audio:

567 JOIK Sapporo, Japan Poor-fair signal noted at 1256.

594 JOAK Tokyo, Japan Fair signal at 1240, good at times near 1300.

693 JOAB Tokyo, Japan Solid signal from 1245 to past 1310.

702 unID Much like yesterday, traces of audio at 1308, seemed to be
Japan, but too weak to be certain.

747 JOIB Sapporo, Japan Good, about the same as 693.

774 JOUB Akita, Japan The best signal on the band today, solid from
1245 to past 1310.

828 JOBB Osaka, Japan Fair, and didn't reach audio until 1255.

864 unIDtraces of audio at 1310

873 JOGB Kumamoto, Japan Fair signal at 1242, faded out by 1255, but
back for a few minutes around 1310.

891 JOHK Sendai, Japan Just traces of audio at 1310, suspect JOHK.

945 unIDtraces of audio at 1312.

972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Korea Good signal, only fair at 1245, but good
by 1300.

1179 JOOR, Osaka, Japan Weak, at 1254 with man and woman conversing in
Japanese.

1188 JOKP, Kitami, Japan Best this season with fair signal after 1300.

1287 JOHR, Sapporo, JapanNot as strong as 774/747/693 etc, but just
as consistent from 1245 to past 1310.

1566 HLAZ Cheju, S.KoreaLike yesterday, solid signal from 1245 to
past 1310. In fact signal was best of the season around 1240.

1575 VOA ThailandPoor-fair again today.

Nice DXing, Allen. :)

I wonder how well your awesome DX skills would do with hearing All India Radio
1071 Rajkot on the SRF-M37V - in the southwest quadrant of Columbia Park in

[IRCA] TPs for 26 Sept

2013-09-26 Thread Bruce Portzer
It was another nice morning for TPs. Several CNR and CRI stations were
poking through today, but provincial Chinese stations are still missing
in action.

JOIB-747 was quite good at times, easily beating 774 for the honor of
being the strongest NHK station today. Some of the lower tier NHK
stations were audible as well, with JOIK-567 making an especially
gallant effort at fighting its way through the splatter from local KVI-570.

Alaskans were generally good, with KENI-650 and KBYR-700 making their
first appearances of the season.

Good

[IRCA] TP 26 Sep; Victoria version

2013-09-26 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Lots of stations, but most didn't reach the top level strength that
a number reached yesterday. In particular, the Japanese powerhouses
seemed to lack zip today, made up for by a few good strength
Chinese. I checked Bruce's Alaskan frequencies, but only KICY-850
really delivered here, possibly because I was using the west rather
than the north Flag at the time.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

279 R. Rossii man in RR 1332UT
972 HLCA slow oriental stringed mx, man in KK 1350UT, but often not
heard at all (!)

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK woman and man in JJ 1340UT, better than // on 594
639 CNR1 woman in CC //6030 1336UT
747 JOIB CC lessons 1343UT, bad splatter
774 JOUB CC lessons 1331UT
828 JOBB CC lessons 1331UT //774
963 CRI oriental orchestral mx //1323 (which was weaker), 1356UT,
then into stringed introduction to chimes on hour

1287 JOHR man and woman in JJ 1347UT
1323 CRI stringed mx leading up to chimes and fanfare on hour (which
faded dead away), heard 1259UT when it was briefly the strongest
signal on the band

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

981 CNR1 man in CC //6030 1346UT
1053 KK jammer 1359UT
1566 HLAZ man in JJ 1331UT
1575 VoA man in SE Asian language 1349UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music) :

594 JOAK JJ talk //567 1340UT; I'm sure this must have been stronger
some time, but not when I was listening
702 NHK2 synchros, a few notes of mx 1259UT followed by NHK pips;
//774 828 747 which were hardly any stronger at the time

837 Harbin News Channel? man CC inflected talk 1344UT
891 JOHK man in JJ inflected talk //567 1353UT, woman talking faded
up and took over mostly 1354UT

918 female vocal pop mx 1353UT
936 Anhui? man talking CC inflection 1355UT
945 CNR1 CC pips on hour 1400UT, into man talking possibly with an echo
1476 unID pop mx 1358UT, gone by the hour of course

Strongish het, no or near imaginaryaudio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter):

612 621 954 1044 1143 1251 1377

best wishes,

Nick

Good evening,

For the second night in a roll audio on long wave 162. Very poor with man
talking and some music. Must be France as their the only station on the
frequency in Europe.. Signal to poor to ID language. Best on the Active whip.

Best regards,
