If the DSN Radio mentioned at the bottom of the website is who i think it is, I know these folks.. and actually worked for them at another radio station... a licensed commercial outlet. I'd like to believe this is a part 15 station, the owner had a whole article on Part 15 radio on one of his websites and to be completely honest, it wouldnt surprise me/I wouldn't put it past him to stretch the truth about being #1 or stretch the truth about being legal. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 9-26
Hello All, It was an excellent morning here for both the Asian big guns and the second-tier Chinese stations, especially the CRI foreign service stations on 963, 1017 and 1044. The 963-CRI Russian service managed its best signal here in years with a vibrant fade in at 1336, while the 1017-CRI Korean service did the same thing with potent signals at 1342. Rare Chinese audio on 918 (Shandong?) started off the session around 1305, and there was also fair Chinese audio on 603, 639, 756, 936, 981, 1377 and 1593. 657-Pyongyang finally had some welcome competition from a fair-strength Chinese station (Henan?) around 1343, while 603 was quite a battleground all morning with HLSA and the Chinese station (Hulun Buir?) fighting it out at roughly equal strength. 738-BEL2 in Taiwan was back with the Chinese male host taking calls only from females during his weird talk show (congratulations to Dennis for hearing it this morning), and although 1143 did manage a few moments of threshold Chinese audio at times, the mystery station didn't seem to be parallel to 738 (once again). Almost all of the Asian big guns (594, 693, 747, 774, 828, 972, 1053, 1134, 1287, 1566 and 1575) had very good to excellent audio at times this morning, with 972-HLCA the most potent of the bunch with Korean female talk at 1355. In summary it was a very interesting and diverse session, and certainly one of the best in the new season. 738 BEL2 Penghu, Taiwan Call-in talk show theme music at 1340, followed by male Chinese host taking call from females (only) http://www.mediafire.com/listen/doc3wuluygq4lf4/738-BEL2-1340z092613PL380.MP3 963 CRI Huadian, China Russian foreign service at good strength with male and female announcers, and interval music http://www.mediafire.com/listen/knc5wpduw5nu4fk/963-CRI-1336z092613PL380.MP3 972 HLCA Dangjin, S. Hi all - today was an all-Sapporo today pretty much. Not much else to speak of, except maybe 1566 booming in early, around 13:25. One thing I noted however since 774 Akita was also very strong at 13:50+ and that is that at exactly 7 minutes before sunrise local (14:06 UTC, 7:06 PDT) there was a huge drop in signal strength. I was recording 774 at the time, wanting to get a full ID at the TOH, and it was perfectly readable and very strong up until 13:59 UTC - after which it dropped out almost completely. I'm going to check on subsequent days and see if there is a pattern. 1. Clearly understandable strong audio with reasonably long stretches of readability so content could be understood by a native speaker Not really, except for 774 and 1566 noted above. 2. Clearly understandable audio for short periods of time, understandable by a native speaker 963 CRI Anhui 13:36 RR speaking male 1287 JOHR Sapporo 13:42 Two JJ males in conversation 567 JOIK Sapporo 13:46 Male speaking, JJ - some splatter 3. [IRCA] Mostly Mexican MW DX to Enid OK, September 20-26, 2013
These logs are excerpts from my daily all-band reports, mainly SWBC, also VHF/UHF, sometimes utility, ham, which may be found in several archives without much delay, such as http://www.hard-core-dx.com/index.php?topic=Hauser And compiled weekly along with extensive news from many other individuals and publications in DX LISTENING DIGEST: http://www.worldofradio.com/dxldmid.html All my MW DX reports starting two years ago are archived in this forum with open access: http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?6543-MW-DX-from-Enid-OK-by-Glenn-Hauser/page15 All times and dates strictly UT. Rx: mostly DX-398 with internal antenna only; or Sony SRF-59 as specified; Nissan stock caradio as specified; FRG-7 with E-W longwire as specified ** MEXICO. 560, Sept 22 at 1151 UT, amid Mexican music, ID mentions Grupo Radio Centro, and I think an FM frequency with a 6 in it. I was hoping this would be enough to pin it down, but we have contradictory info. First thought is the DF station, XEOC, as googling matches up 560 with GRC in the DF; maybe it once was, but the GRC website now has an AM dial starting at 690. As for affiliates elsewhere, can`t find any listing of them on GRC website. IRCA Mexican Log 2012 has no GRC nets on 560. Cantú does not include nets on the by-frequency list, but has: 560 XEOC Radio Chapultepec México, DF 750 500 And so does WRTH 2013; really low-powered compared to the other DF stations! Other sources contradict that info: IRCA has XEOC as La Mejor with 5/5 kW, but in the PM - Promomedios group. Perhaps one of the seven other XEs on 560 now is a GRC station, but which? [IRCA] Northern Bay , Newfoundland Medium Wave DXpedition
Hello To All, For those who haven't heard the recent news , a move from Bristol's Hope on Saturday will find us moving to Northern Bay, NL ( 47' 56.30 N 53' 04.25 W ) for a month's temporary stay while awaiting new permanent residence back in Carbonear, NL on Nov 1. While in Northern Bay during October it will provide a chance for a month long one man Medium Wave Dxpedition from that location. Equipment will include a Kenwood R-5000 and Yaesu FRG-100 as well as various Ultralight radios . The residence is on an acre of land which is right next to the Atlantic Ocean giving the opportunity to stretch out the 366 meter wire antenna which had been in place already here in the Hope. Internet connectivity may or may not be available for the month, a daily update will be posted if possible and if not, this link to a webpage displaying the summary listening report to be posted shortly afterwards as follows: http://nldxers.000a.biz/northernbay.htm Good DX Allen Willie VOPC1AA Bristol's Hope, Newfoundland ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] A part 15 station on 1650 in Flagstaff?
I found that link, too, Mike after doing a bit of snooping. So KBXZ, while it was on, was definitely an illegal operation, not a Part 15. And Glenn, I concur with you about what the DXer (in O'Neill, Nebraska) heard. Phonetically, KBXZ and KCNZ could very easily be mistaken for each other when they have the same format. It's 860 miles from Flagstaff to O'Neill, and the odds of a flea-powered pirate making it that far (especially when there are other stations on 1650) would be astronomical. I HAVE to believe it was actually KCNZ he was hearing. 73, Rick Dau South Omaha, Nebraska From: Mike Westfall mwdl...@gmail.com To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America irca@hard-core-dx.com Sent: Thursday, September 26, 2013 9:44 AM Subject: Re: [IRCA] A part 15 station on 1650 in Flagstaff? Re: [IRCA] Alberta TAs
1269 has a strong enough carrier but the 1270 CJCB/WTSN mix is very strong here, mucking up the 1269 audio most of the time. 1422 Germany and Algeria take turns here; both can be loud. 1125 is usually Spain // many other RNE's. Belgium occasionally shows up. UK channels 693, 882, 909, 1053, 1089, 1215, and 1458 are all typically good when the propagation is working that way. France regulars: 603, 711, 792, 837, 864, 945, 1206, 1242, 1377, 1467, 1494, 1557. Here on the East Coast, southerly TA's avoid the auroral zone best, so we hear a lot of Spain, Algeria, Morocco, Canaries, etc. even when the UK, Germany, and Netherlands are struggling to make it. Out west, the northerly TA's can miss the auroral absorption doughnut by skipping with low loss in the central hole region even as more southerly stations get absorbed. Some of the even channels make it during good conditions; these include: 630 Tunisia, Portugal 720 Canaries, Portugal 810 BBC Scotland, SER Spain, Macedonia 900 Saudi Arabia 990 Spain, Germany 1080 Spain, Iran 1170 UAE 1260 Spain (tough here with CKHJ/WMKI loud mess) 1350 France (through CKAD) 1440 Luxembourg, Saudi Arabia 1530 Sao Tome, Romania, Vatican Some DXers will be in PEI in November. See http://www.bamlog.com/2013planning.htm;. As Allen Willie stated, there will be action in Newfoundland. Up there Cappahayden might also be activated. Then there are the typical mini-DXpedition efforts around sunset at coastal sites here in the New England states. It should be interesting. Mark Connelly, WA1ION South Yarmouth, MA Rather unusually, 1215 is not among the top bunch here in Alberta. Germany seems favoured here, as 1269, though never strong, has been in and out of audio several times over the past hour. A few minutes before 0400 it was 1422 that was in quite nicely with my best TA audio of the season thus far. France was also in on 1377. [IRCA] TPs for 26 Sept
It was another nice morning for TPs. Several CNR and CRI stations were poking through today, but provincial Chinese stations are still missing in action. JOIB-747 was quite good at times, easily beating 774 for the honor of being the strongest NHK station today. Some of the lower tier NHK stations were audible as well, with JOIK-567 making an especially gallant effort at fighting its way through the splatter from local KVI-570. [IRCA] TP 26 Sep; Victoria version
Lots of stations, but most didn't reach the top level strength that a number reached yesterday. In particular, the Japanese powerhouses seemed to lack zip today, made up for by a few good strength Chinese.
