Re: [IRCA] TP 4 Nov, Victoria version
Nick, Thanks for posting the fine recording of 603-HLSA's 3 + 1 pips TOH routine from 1500 yesterday morning. Apparently the KBS2 1500 TOH routine is different than the 1400 TOH routine, which doesn't have the long gap between the three short and one long pip. This 1400 TOH recording was made on 603-HLSA at 1400 on October 6, which simply has the ID, no-gap time pips and some music immediately afterward. Apparently KBS figures that local midnight in Korea (UTC + 9) is more deserving of special time pips, as contained in your 1500 TOH recording :-) http://www.mediafire.com/listen/e1baxipfyocecs9/603-HLSA-1400z100613PL380.MP3 Also, 648-VOR was received here with a fair signal yesterday morning, but with some noise on the frequency (as is usual here, on 648). It's tough to make any definite language identification, but after listening to the recording a few more times, it does seem more likely to be heavily accented English than Korean. 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) -Original Message- From: Nick Hall-Patch To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America Sent: Mon, Nov 4, 2013 9:59 pm Subject: [IRCA] TP 4 Nov, Victoria version This wasn't as deep a morning as yesterday, some Chinese, but certainly not those that hadn't been heard before, and the upper band was dead. Re: [IRCA] Alberta TP/DU for 4 Nov 2013
Hi Nigel, <<< At the low end though things were more interesting, though those Chinese still seem unable to get over the Rockies. >>> Actually those Chinese signals don't seem to get into some west coast locations very well either, Nigel. For some unusual reason this location has always seemed to favor Chinese and Korean signals, at the expense of Japanese ones. The other side of the coin is that Dennis, Bruce, Nick and Walt can receive many more Japanese stations than I can, and even in Alberta you have reported the reception of several exotic Japanese stations that have never managed a trace here. I guess the moral of the story is to be thankful for whatever Asian propagation you have? 73, Gary -Original Message- From: Nigel Pimblett To: Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America Sent: Mon, Nov 4, 2013 9:07 pm Subject: [IRCA] Alberta TP/DU for 4 Nov 2013 I'd agree with Gary that this morning was a low-band morning, as the only audio I heard above 1000 khz was from the 1556 Korea and 1575 VOA powerhouses, neither of which sounded that impressive today. At the low end though things were more interesting, though those Chinese still seem unable to get over the Rockies. The usual Japanese big guns on 567, 594, 693, 747, 774, 828 were all doing very well today, along with the Korean on 972. Also from Japan 531 JOQG from Morioka made its first appearance of the season, as did JOIP on 639. (It amazes me that Gary could have the kind of CNR audio he posted, while the same morning I was hearing Japan with absolutely no trace of China) The NHK outlets on 702 and 729 also put in appearances. Several other frequencies had audio in the "barely there" class, and were too weak to identify. They included 558, 675, 738, and 846. Signals were rather late perking up today, with all the interesting stuff happening between 1400 and 1415. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Paul both 690 & 1610 have been logged many times in the USA - mostly back in the 1980's although 1610 has been heard in the past couple of years. Their towers were destroyed or at least severely damaged by a hurricane about 10 years ago. 1610 then came back on after an extended period of silence but was not nearly as strong as before. I believe 690 has been silent for several years. Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] The Caribbean Beacon
In June, 1995, while vacationing in Waimanalo, Oahu, Hawaii, I heard the 1610 one evening while sitting on the beach. That's a distance of over 6000 miles. This was using a simple Sony portable barefoot! 1610 used to be a regular all across North America but I believe they operate on reduced power now. As for the 690, it was never as widely reported due largely to CBF and other stations. If I were to guess, I would say the strategy was that 690 offered better groundwave coverage, important in the daytime, whereas 1610 offered better skywave at night. [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 11-5
Hello All, It was another morning of potent low-band TP propagation here, with vibrant signals from both the big gun and second-tier Asians. Once again there was a definite surge of the Mainland Asian signals on 603 (HLSA), 639, 648 and 657 late in the session, along with a mix of HLKG and BEL2 on 738 kHz. This morning's low-band surge wasn't quite up to the standard of yesterday's (or especially Sunday's), but it still made things very interesting from 1415-1450. Even 675 kHz managed a fair signal around 1445 (after Dennis' report of VOV yesterday), but there was just too much domestic splatter on both 670 and 680 to get any identity clues other than an Asiatic language. The low-band Japanese big guns were especially strong today, with both 594-JOAK and 747-JOIB hitting their seasonal bests around 1435 during the late-session surge. The Japanese on 693, 774 and 828 were also very vibrant, along with the Korean powerhouse 972-HLCA. With the exception of the Chinese CRI stations on 1017 and 1044 (both good at times around 1405), the middle band seemed kind of depressed, with the 1053-Jammer and 1134-KBS down from their usual strength. Like yesterday, the high band seemed to have been left out of the propagation scheme, with only 1566-HLAZ managing any decent audio here (fair to good around 1335). A couple unIDs from this past April ... looking for opinions, something sounding familiar... Audio clips are online at: http://forums.wtfda.org/showthread.php?8549 580 – 0615 Eastern April 3 – Eclectic-sounding country song (A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do), then a show promo that sounds like Hogwood Radio. I'm wondering if this might be WYHM Rockwood TN. It's just not completely sounding like "Rockwood radio" to me. Alternate possibilities include WKSK NC and KZMX SD, but I am really leaning towards WYHM. Not many country stations on 580. Cx were good that morning... 1510 - 1943 Eastern April 4 - Underneath Wisconsin's Spanish Desportes is an adult standards station that gives a 7:43 time check (so it's in my eastern time zone) and mentions AM 1510 but nothing else I can make anything of. 1590 - 0824 Eastern April 3 – Huckabee show promo and AM 1590 ID. My guess is WTVB MI but curious if anyone can make more out of the ID. With thanks to anyone who listens and/or comments... [IRCA] 1710 unid
Heard on the car radio 11/4 in various places between 1555 and 1620 with female vocals, apparently in EE. At one point it sounded like pop, another time oldies. Seemed to be the same station though, and not a local pirate, given the fade patterns. Anyone else heard anything like this ? Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] unIDs (580 country and others)
So we're down to NC and TN ... interesting. Thanks! I've added three new AM stations tonight going through clips from earlier this year: 1090 WKTE NC King (heard oldies much of last spring, was never able to hear an ID in real-time, but yielded solid IDs on two audio clips. 1280 WMCP TN Columbia (this one was unexpected). 1050 WTKA MI Ann Arbor (I could drive there for lunch but it's been on my most-wanted list for a long time). Plus a few notable relogs (540 WFLF FL, 1560 WAGL SC...) It really pays to put unID clips aside for a long time and then listen later on with fresh ears... [IRCA] Alberta TP/DU for 5 Nov 2013
It was tough to pin a tag on this morning's reception. I listned from 1322 to 1415, and in some ways it was down on yesterday, but in others it was better. Japan was mostly limited to the more regular catches today, with 567,594, 693, 747, 774, 828, and 873 all doing well at times (and in the case of 774 and 828 for the entire session). NHK on 702 was in again, though not until 1411, and 1422 JORF reached audio, which it did not yesterday. Also unlike yesterday, a couple of Chinese made the trip over the mountains, with CRI on 1044 at fair levels at various times between 1322 and 1410, and traces of audio from the off-freq Chinese on 1206. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
