[IRCA] TP 27 Jan, Victoria version
In spite of Gary's observations, I had no sunrise enhancement here at all, and precious little action previous to sunrise either pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 1566 HLAZ woman in CC 1408UT, had been building to this since about 1400UT, but didn't maintain it and eventually disappeared Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): 738 Tahiti man in FF 1354UT not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: the above, passing through Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) : the above, passing through Strongish het, no or "near imaginary"audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter): 774 1575 (yes the antennas were still up when it got light...) best wishes, Nick ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] TP DX in Seattle on January 27
As is usually the case, conditions here were much different than what Gary and Dennis reported. HLAZ had a very good signal just before I left for work at 1430. Unfortunately, that was it for the good signals today. HLAZ fizzled out after 1500, there were basically no TP signals at all after about 1505 today, and no Asian audio was heard below 1550. I'm not sure what might have been heard before 1430 - I had the antenna switch in the wrong position until then. But judging from how things were after 1430, I don't think I missed anything. Good - mostly understandable by a native speaker 1566HLAZ, quite good 1427-1500 with talks by various people, occasional music. Signal took a huge dive after 1500 and never returned. Fair - a few words understandable by a native speaker 850KICY, ID by woman 1500 u/KHHO, then religious program Poor - bits of unintelligible stuff in the noise and splatter 1557Chinese talk 1453, then music in domestic splatter 1575VOA, woman in Asian language 1431 Carriers - 972 1503 1593 --- This email is free from viruses and malware because avast! [IRCA] Alberta TP/DU for 27 Jan 2014
Not a very interesting morning, but as was mentioned, probably typical for the time of year. Only Korea on 1566 provided decent audio today, a fair signal from about 1440 to 1500. VoA had momments on 1575, but was generally very marginal. Elsewhere, only carriers. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] 930 WAUR - low power
My semi-local WAUR 930 must have transmitter problems. The last few nights noted them with lower than normal power. Tonight it's worse, I can barely hear them at 18 miles. Might open up the frequency in this area for others to hear something else. [IRCA] Radio Kiribati 1440
To All: For those interested... Here is a 1 hour aircheck from just after Christmas 2013 from Radio Kiribati 1440Khz. The aircheck features world news from Radio Australia, local and regional news from Radio Kiribati and then their sole hour of daily english programming, featuring country music. One song they played was even requested by me.. Marie Osmond and Dan Seals.. "Meet Me In Montana". http://www.onairdj.com/RadioKiribati.mp3 The aircheck is 60 minutes 59 seconds long, encoded at 128K Stereo. You are more then welcome to share this link on your blogs, websites, email/print newsletters, facebook or wherever else. I just want to share my love of the hobby and help preserve a bit of radio history. http://www.onairdj.com/RadioKiribati.mp3 I have gotten 3 airchecks from Radio Kiribati, each costing $10AUD or about $8.75US... Very very very well worth it to me. I spent 3 or 4 years trying to make headway and land a contact at Radio Kiribati.. I finally did it last fall after trying so hard. .and that's what makes these airchecks so valuable to me. [IRCA] New features but donors needed
January 28 2014 Hello Now that 2014 is moving along, we need to tell you that we've had only 6 donations in the past month, to be expected as thoughts and concerns are elsewhere over the Christmas/New Year period. The result is that we have to find $1,912 by the end of the month to meet the overheads. You'll find more new Retro Radio Dial features now online as we've had some time to research them over the quiet time, and we've got some more in the works. We'll do what we can to keep bringing more features and content online this year, which is also our 10th anniversary online. Visits to the website www.radioheritage.net are up these past few weeks, and we've been fielding a good number of the inquiries that people make when their focus is on family and memories, and we continue the work of protecting memorabilia and researching new features and all the other unseen work that goes behind what we share. We do need to find this $1,912 in the next few days, so if you can make a donation towards these overheads right now, it will be very welcomedall donations are acknowledged online and you can now make smaller more regular donations for ongoing sustaining support. Thanks so much for joining us again in 2014, and do enjoy the new features we've recently added such as Retro Radio Dial Australia, New Zealand & Pacific; South East Asia; South Asia; and Braziland keep an eye out for more.. After further observations, I'm 95% convinced that the culprit is WABH, and 100% convinced that they are running day power/pattern at night. They have a huge signal here at the moment, dominating the channel most of the time, and the strength of the spurs on 1370/1390 appears to be strongly correlated with WABH's signal level. Re: [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 1-27
At around 1525 I heard an assortment of hets from the mid-section of the dial up -- 891, etc, 972... No audio but some hints that there might be audio -- as usual, I did not stick around -- breakfast and work was calling... Like the guys say, I need to put in more than 1 minute out on the balcony OR fire up a Wellbrook -- (which I did set up yesterday...) [IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 1-27
Hello All, It was a pretty typical mid-winter doldrums session here as a mediocre sunrise enhancement boosted several low and high band Asian regulars up to anemic levels around 1535. A very dreary band at 1500 started showing weak signs of life around 1515 as 1566-HLAZ came out of the noise with fair signals in and out, peaking with good signals at around 1530 (as Dennis reported). This was the only fairly vibrant Asian signal for the entire session. On the high band 1575-VOA and 1593-CNR1 also managed fair signals in and out of the domestic splatter around 1540. Unlike Dennis I did have a few low band TP's make anemic appearances, but you needed to be at the right place at the right time to catch their wispy audio. Around 1533 there was a ghostly mix on 603 with the deep-voiced Korean male (presumed HLSA) joining a Chinese female (presumed Hulun Buir), as well as very brief fade-ups from 594-JOAK and 648-VOR around the same general time. As usual the low band Asians bailed out first, leaving only 1566-VOA with any real audio by 1545. Overall it was a very forgettable morning, but actually fairly typical for a mid-winter session. After a couple of except! ional days recently (like 1-18 and 1-24), maybe we have developed some unrealistic expectations? 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) C.Crane SWP 7.5" Slider loopstick Ultralight + 12" Medium Wave FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
