[IRCA] 3 new ones here tonight to my south

2015-01-24 Thread neilkaz
My 10 pm CST recording was interesting to my south tonight. 590 WCAB NC came up
nicely with a gal with ID. On 1360 I finally pulled out KNIR LA quite poor but
audible // a strong KJMJ 580 with a reasonable amount of their multi-station
Radio Maria net ID including KNIR. I had no trace of Chicago or Indy pests at
the time on 1590 and the ID was a southern accented gal for WFTH Richmond.

73 KAZ Barrington IL Perseus SDR and DKAZ antenna 128 ft x 21 ft aimed due
south used for this.

Re: [IRCA] 1450

2015-01-24 Thread Dennis Gibson
KEST just moved to KSFB's 100 foot auxiliary tower next to the soon to be
demolished Candlestick Park. The tower is technically still one quarter
wavelength but 40% of the electrical length is achieved by top loading; in this
case welding part of the guy wires to the top. The old tower was 170 feet.

KVEN is very hard to null here; it gets out quite well.

[IRCA] 900 Radio Progresso, Cuba

Decent Cuban opening tonight, 530 Radio Enciclopedia with Radio Rebelde
below, Rebelde on 1180, and thanks to presumed sports play-by-play on XEDT,
I've logged 900 Radio Progresso based on webcast match and // 4765 kHz.
XEDT has been strong at times, but without their usual music, Progresso
tropical music has been able to bubble up well enough to identify. Cuba #6.

Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files

2015-01-24 Thread Mike Hawkins
I just did a Google search and found a manual...I don't know if it is for
the same version of the software that you have. A link is here:

http://microtelecom.it/perseus/perseususermanual-en14.pdf

The top half of page 17 says essentially that recording and playback are
both done based on browsing to the directory where files are/will be
stored. The only thing that could make that quirky is that Windows 7
sometimes uses two different references for system areas. One you can
access and the other one gets you a slap on the wrist when you try (Access
Denied messages).

They want you to store everything in "My Documents", which is actually the
worst possible place to store files considering that you will eventually
need to rebuild your computer when user registry hives crash due to bloat.
They do that so forensic analysis of bad guys is easier to do. If the
stuff I said in the last paragraph resembles what you are getting, create
directories for your Perseus use, and put everything there.

Yes, quite ho hum as well in Masset. In contrast to other days, HLAZ did
not seen off, and hence the strong signal well past 19:00. 2MM 1656

today as well on 1548 and 1116. 73, Walt

Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files

2015-01-24 Thread Steve
I am not clear as to whether you mean the desktop directory or its files
are not displayed, or do you mean they are displayed but you can not select
them?

The more detail you can give, the better your chances of success.

I select 'wav' on Perseus the select 'file' on Perseus ... at that point the
Documents folder opens along with its selections of previuosly recorded
files that I have put there. If the file that I want to play is a new one,
it is on the desktop at this point. If I then click on that file (on the
desktop), it opens in the windows media player. If I want to hear the file
on Perseus I need to drag it into the documents folder as I have indicated
earlier. I probably should just have Mestor put all of the files in there to
begin with and the extra step would be gone. I was interested in how / where
others saved their files.

I think we've beat this one to death Chuck :-)

[IRCA] TP 22 Jan Victoria version: reprise

2015-01-24 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
An interesting contrast to this morning's post sunrise all HLAZ all
the time show, was the recording from a couple of mornings ago that
also had post sunrise DX, though in that case apparently, it was 594,
972, 1242 and 1287 that delivered audio, with 972 and 1287 being
quite readable at various times up to around 1700UT.

[IRCA] 1590 KMIC Radio Aleluya

2015-01-24 Thread Stephen H. Ponder
First, thanks to all on the various lists that answered my query as to the
whereabouts of Houston's Radio Disney station - KMIC 1590. The info everybody
provided turned out to be spot on!

If you haven't heard by now, Houston has a new Hispanic Gospel station! Tune to
1590 kHz and you will hear "Radio Aleluya, 1590 KMIC." I downloaded the Aleluya
Broadcasting Network (ABN) app to my iPhone, but it doesn't have the KMIC
stream added to it yet.

One of the ABN webpages that has the coverage maps for their stations is
http://radioaleluya.org/

Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files

2015-01-24 Thread Brett Saylor
I just looked through the Perseus manual and all the program's
configuration settings, and there's no mention of any way to specify the
default directory - my experience is as Chuck mentions, it always defaults
to the last directory used.

I perused the system registry to see where Perseus stores the last used
location (since that's where Perseus says it stores all its settings) but I
cannot find an entry anywhere for it. It's not in the tree
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Microtelecom s.r.l./perseus with all the other
program settings. This begs the question of exactly where does the program
store that information between runs? There is a log file named perseuslf
that appears to get created in the same directory as perseus.exe when
starting the program, but that doesn't contain any file location
information.

If you could find out where the program stores this information, you might
be able to manually change it,

Brett

Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files

2015-01-24 Thread Chuck Hutton
Not exactly. Perseus defaults to opening the last used directory, whatever it
might be. This default applies for the rest of the current running of Perseus
and for subsequent runnings of Perseus.
When you say "doesn't want me to pick from the deskptop", I am not clear as to
whether you mean the desktop directory or its files are not displayed, or do
you mean they are displayed but you can not select them?
The more detail you can give, the better your chances of success.

[IRCA] Quicken Loans

I'm hearing two distinct stations on 1390. Each is carrying a Quicken Loans ad.
I'm thinking, before ambling down the dial to 1380, that maybe it's time to

I can't help with this one. Post it on the GYDX yahoo group. Ron Schiller is
in Utah, maybe he can help.

KTIP is the dominant station on 1450 here with KEST a regular too. Sometimes
I hear KHIT. KVEN used to make it but not recently.

Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files

2015-01-24 Thread Mike Hawkins
Look in the program's menus for PREFERENCES or CONFIGURATION. There will
be places that you can set all of your folder specs. If you don't set
them, you get what you get. Also, clicking on the file on the Desktop
itself will cause the file to open (or try to) with whatever application is
defined by Windows to be associated with that type of file. That doesn't
change unless you tell it to either.

WCCO 830 heard early this morning at 1255 AM PST for the first time since
moving up to the Pacific Northwest 12 years ago. Two K9 antennas, one West/East

2015-01-24 Thread Russ Edmunds
A translator doesn't have to be owned by the owners of the stations it
rebroadcasts, so I wouldn't
restrict the search that way. Translators are often leased. There are
several in DE/MD which are
owned by one broadcast group because they were able to acquire them
cheaply, and they now
lease those facilities to others.

default.

correct...in Perseus ...wav / file / ... then it opens the documents folder
to pick a file...doesn't want me to pick from the desktop (understandable I
guess). Perhaps the default mode for Perseus is to automatically open the
documents unless another place has been specified, which I don't recall
doing.

Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files

2015-01-24 Thread Russ Edmunds
When you say that you choose a file on the desktop, do you mean that you
are in Perseus and trying to open it ? If so, that suggests that for some
reason Perseus 'wants' to see files in that folder, which is likely the
default.

On the other hand, if you are trying to open a .wav directly from the
desktop when you're not in Perseus, that says to me that WMP is set as the
system default for .wav files on your computer.

Yes, it continued in Korean until 1830 when going to R. Teos in Russian,
without any break, so naturally went to northern beam already at 1600.
Let's see, how it will be tomorrow.

Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files

2015-01-24 Thread Steve

Thanks once again to those providing input to my original inquiry.

What error message do you get when you try to
access a file on the desktop?

no error message...if I engage 'wav', then 'file' on Perseus, it opens up my
Documents folder where I need to choose a file. If I chose a file that is on
the desktop instead, it opens up in Windows audio player and not Perseus.

Maybe try changing your account to an
Administrator account and see if that helps?

yes...I will look at that today

(1) Re the desktop problem, what does "recognize the Perseus files" mean
exactly?

Does this mean the Perseus SW can not see the file in the desktop
dorectory, or that it can see and load the file but won't play it as it
doesn't recognize it as a Perseus file?

see above .. Perseus will only play (recognize) files if I drag them into
the Documents folder

(2) I think your problem is that the Windows file dialog (responsible for
presenting the list of files / directories) doesn't believe you have
privileges to access to the desktop files. The quickest thing to try is to
right click on the Perseus icon or on perseus.exe and select the "run as
administrator" choice and repeat the test. If that doesn't work, can you do
the procedure below?

OK...not sure I want to get involved in the second procedure though .. it's
not really 'broke' just a quirk, and I don't want to really mess things up
which I am fully-capable of doing!

Steve / tnx!

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 1-24

2015-01-24 Thread d1028gary

Hello All,

Asian results here were similar to those reported by Dennis, but with the usual
differences between Kalama and Puyallup. Whereas Dennis had good signals on
594, 774, 828 and 1566, here the best performers were on 594, 972, 1566 and
1593. The high band seemed to be favored here, with 1593-CNR1 having decent
signals all the way up to 1600.

At my 1430 start time several low-band TP's had fair signals in and out,
including 594, 603 (HLSA), 693, 738 (BEL2) and 828. These generally stayed at a
modest level throughout the session, although 594-JOAK and 828-JOBB had brief
good peaks just prior to 1500. 972-HLCA had its best signals of the new year
(good) around 1505, while 1044-CRI's Japanese service hit some fair peaks
around the same time. After 1500 the high band got a serious boost here, with
1566-HLAZ's Chinese service and 1593-CNR1 both having good strength in and out.
1575-VOA was also there, but not at the same vibrant strength as the other two.
1593-CNR1 really got a boost after 1520, staying at a strong level well past
all the other Asians until it finally faded just after 1600. Altogether the
session was pretty interesting, and certainly better than the typical late
January doldrums.

1044  CRI   Changzhou, China   CRI's Japanese service with female announcer at
a fair level at 1508; in and out for most of session

at 1518; maintained strength at this level until 1600

Indeed they are, still hanging in fairly nicely
in Victoria at 1654UT (sunrise here is 1550UT),
fady, but quite readable at peaks, with woman
singing accompanied by piano. Better on north Flag.

best wishes,

Nick

MI for most part, so grabbed a nap and at 11:30 EST I'm noting some signals
into MN WI on upper band, and some ND on 1660. Not enough to warrant attention

Re: [IRCA] Saved Perseus Files

2015-01-24 Thread Brett Saylor
Steve,

I also use Mestor almost every night to capture TOH recordings. I use an
external hard drive (either a bare SATA drive in an eSATA/USB3 dock like
http://goo.gl/QAF2EV or a traditional USB3 external drive). I make a
subdirectory on the drive like "HomePerseus" then tell Mestor to use it
with SET E:\HomePerseus SHIFT to organize the files into folders by date
(the SHIFT parameter tells Mestor to put anything created after 2000 UTC in
the next day's folder to keep each night's recordings together). When the
drive fills up I can just disconnect it and connect a new drive. With 1 TB
bare SATA drives less that $50 now it's a pretty cost effective way to
archive recordings.

As for not being able to play files from the desktop, I just tried that and
it works ok on my computer, and I can 't come up with any explanation of
why it won't work for you. What error message do you get when you try to
access a file on the desktop? Maybe try changing your account to an
Administrator account and see if that helps?

[IRCA] 1450

2015-01-24 Thread Mike Sanburn
'Been hanging out on 1450 all night. When I hear Fm frequencies read along with
am I can usually tell which station is in. 1450/100.9 is Prescott AZ. 1450/93.1
is St George UT. At 4am PST I heard a TOH ID sans call letters mention 1450/
98.5 /1400. Tucson has all those frequencies but this was in English not SS. My
guess is Provo UT Reno is Spanish these days as well..ms Lakewood CA

Thanks for the tip Saul. Vancouver was crushing WHO here and I was able to
capture a nice legal ID at TOH. Relog but never heard this well dominating
the channel. This was on the North D-KAZ.

It is hard to believe KKXA is ND at night. Otherwise, they would own the
channel here. I still get OK City as well as KGDD.
