Re: [IRCA] NEW 1060, 1070 and 1080 loggings from Redding CA 1/26/15
It came back on at 0228 with distorted audio. Back with normal audio at 0230. Radio-locator does NOT have patterns. This has been explained several times. It has "predicted coverage area" maps. It uses the word pattern at the bottom of the maps, which I think is unfortunate. Some resemble the pattern and some not as much. The CKMX-1060 Calgary night pattern favors west to north with a big null to the southeast most likely to protect KYW. It is 50 kW full time. [IRCA] NEW 1060, 1070 and 1080 loggings from Redding CA 1/26/15
KNX has been reported as being off air and while the signal isn't huge here in Redding I can usually hear them every night. Combine KNX being off and I guess good conditions, I logged 2 new stations to me. "Comedy 1060" Calgary, Alberta. Didn't hear any liners or id's, but listened long enough to hear that it was a comedian on stage, telling jokes with people laughing. signal wasn't great but steady. NEW!! What is their pattern like? if radio-dislocator is to believed, and we know it shouldnt for like this .. they aren't in pattern. I logged a sports talker on 1070, they were discussing hockey and the all star game score 17-12 and mentioned a call in line sponsored by a logistics. Going into the break, the host gave an 18 after 11 time check and said "You're listening to TSN 1040" I know nothing about Canadian radio..TSN 1040 is Vancouver but i was listening on 1070. Who/where is 1070 and what is their power pattern? I picked up two stations duking it out on 1080 but wasn't able to ID either one definitively. I suspect one was 1080 The Fan KFXX Portland, as I have heard them here before with their 9kw/3 tower west night pattern. What I wasn't able to ID is what was under them... and din't get enough details to even make a guess. [IRCA] Iowa DX
Last night's geo storm certainly seemed to wipe out the TP DX here in Alberta, but perhaps contributed to some other unusual DX. At 1000 UTC I heard 1010 KRNI in Mason City under CBR for only the second time ever.Even presuming they were on day power for some reason that's still only 760 watts.Only the 2nd log here of that one. Then I logged 1070 KILR in Esthersville, IA, a very pleasant surprise, for a new catch. No sign of either one at 1100. 73, Nigel Pimblett Dunmore, Alberta ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] TP 26 Jan Victoria version
What with having to use the north Flag this morning, and others reports of lousy conditions with a DU bent, and my own monitoring, I expected a shut out. Um, not quite actually, I'm wondering if this was very local, as Bruce and Gary often hear east Asians better than I do pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker, at least briefly): 1566 HLAZ. This had brief bursts of recognizable CC talk at 1418 and 1420UT, but it started a bit a of a jag at 1531UT, with more recognizable talk, erratic fading to be sure, but kept building to this strength at 1538-9UT with lively choral mx, then gradually fading down to about 1545UT. A big surprise. Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise): the above passing through not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or noise could be understood by a native speaker: the above passing through Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in talk or music) 1503 JOUK assumed. NHK pips at 1400UT, then man in JJ inflected talk. Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or ravaged by splatter) 1116 1557 1593 best wishes, Nick ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Re: [IRCA] [NRC-AM] FLORIDA ROAD TRIP DASHBOARD-DX AND MOTEL ADDS
A number of stations in Florida have long standing STAs to run day facilities at night to overcome Cuban cheaters. We have one in Northern California. XED is a big time cheater. KTCT has had that kind of STA since 1999. It's licensed for 10 kW at night but gets to run 50 kW. It's been like springtime in Seattle lately. Temperatures peaked in the low 60s yesterday and today. So, it's perhaps no surprise that today's TP DX was typical of May or June. --- Begin Message --- I think that the tricky thing about Florida is hearing much beyond the GAGGLE of Cubans bombarding the area. Those Cubans are (as we say in these parts) "wicked loud" even here almost all the way up the US East Coast. Even though the distance to the Midwest and to Florida are both in the 1200 mile range from here, there is no comparison signal-strength wise. Miami's WIOD-610 dominates the channel (over NH and PA) most nights with a good signal, at least on my antenna that fires south. WFLF-540 dominates if I'm aimed south (otherwise it's CBT-NL). WAXY-790 and WINZ-940 are common catches. WAXY-790 slugs it out with Cuba's Reloj, WNIS-VA, and semi-local WPRV-RI. WINZ-940 usually has WIPR Puerto Rico for competition. Once in a while Miami's WQAM-560 is in the mix (with WFIL-PA, WHYN-MA, and Cuba) under WGAN-ME. Despite massive Cuban competition (not to mention Venezuela), WWFE shows up on 670 every so often. WOKV (ex-WAPE) 690 Jacksonville even makes it here (well, 3 miles away at the beach anyway) in the DAYTIME, a 1200 mile groundwave run coming up the coastline on a trajectory just east of the NC Outer Banks. I also think that you would have some night exposure to the mid and eastern Caribbean, South and Central America, maybe even TA's. Certainly there will be more similarity to stuff I hear than what you're getting in the initial stage of your roadtrip. Re: [IRCA] TP for 26Jan2015 from Victoria
Hi Walt, <<< I'm home again from Masset, and had a quick look at Nick's DX Fishbarrel. A total blank! Despite this (at 15:09 UTC), I'm getting weak audio on both 1548 and 1503. So, all is not lost. Off to work, so good luck to everyone's DX! 73, Walt Salmaniw, Victoria, BC >>> What a difference a day makes, Walt. If you had come home a day earlier, you might have felt like you were still around Masset! The only sign of TP life here (at 1545 UTC) is a moderate carrier on 1575 kHz. This is in comparison to about 12 Asians with audio yesterday, including a huge signal from 1593-CNR1 around this time. 73, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) - Original Message - From: "Walter Salmaniw" To: "Mailing list for the International Radio Club of America" Sent: Monday, January 26, 2015 7:12:19 AM Subject: [IRCA] TP for 26Jan2015 from Victoria I'm home again from Masset, and had a quick look at Nick's DX Fishbarrel.
