[IRCA] TP 28 Feb Victoria version

2016-02-28 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
All over the map this morning. If I'd chosen a channel between
1430UT and 1500UT, something might have popped up at some point if
I'd listened for the whole time to just that channel . Mostly
really erratic, and a strong Phillippine/Indonesia-1377 leaning, but
China, Australia, Japan, Korea, maybe New Zealand earlier, all seemed
to be around A pity that none near the coast seem to have heard
anything after yesterday's alert. And, congratulations on Indonesia,
Nigel; good to see shared information leads to such worthwhile returns.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

1377 RRI Toli Toli. In and out 1426-1505UT, peaking at this level,
would have been perfectly readable for much of the time if not for
1380 splash. Checked a couple of times vs. webstream, then became
second nature, hi.

1566 HLAZ man in Chinese 1443UT, had to be part of the festivities

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1259UT, pips; also good around 1445UT
774 JOUB man in Japanese 1259UT, pips
1026 slow music 1429UT; man at 1430UT sounded Tagalog; got to get
some webstreams straight...when there's time, hi

1215 Philippines???judging by other DX channels; slow vocal music 1439UT
1512 DYAB? slow male and female vocals 1443UT, think I heard some
Tagalog somewhere, but it was all pretty confusing

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

972 HLCA man in Korean 1318UT
1548 4QD man in DU English 1452UT, seemed //612 which was much weaker

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

558 man and woman talking 1445UT, not //603
567 JOIK man talking //594 1446UT
603 soft music 1445UT
828 JOBB man in Japanese //774 129UT
981 oriental sounding singing and accompaniment 1307UT China?
1008 woman talking, could have been Tagalog 1436UT
1314 woman talking 1444UT
1422 big carrier man talking 1442UT
1574 light singing by woman 1522UT, long after everything else was gone

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

531 891 1188 1242 1386 1404

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Alberta TPs for 28 February 2016

2016-02-28 Thread Nigel Pimblett
Another rather unusual morning here. Heard some TPs on my
overnight recordings, which is a rare event here. I did get the few db
more I was wishing for yesterday on 1377, and this morning was able to
confirm it was RRI Toli Toli. Thanks to Nick for that one (and to Chuck
for pointing us to the webstream).

594 JAPAN, TokyoJOAK
Had been just a mumble earlier but came up quite suddenly
around 1400 with time pips and man in Japanese.

693JAPAN, TokyoJOAB
Fair, with English lesson at 1353, then totally faded out by
1357, before coming back to fair level at 1401.

747JAPAN, Sapporo JOIB
Weak, with English lesson //774 noted at 1353.

774JAPAN, AkitaJOUB
Fair, with discussion of health issues during English lesson at
1353.

774 AUSTRALIA, Melbourne3LO
ABC news fanfare at 1100, and then into news by a woman

828JAPAN, OsakaJOBB
Reached weak audio by 1357, with English lesson //774 and
others.

972KOREA, SHLCA
Presumed the one with traces of talk at 1354, and what sounded
like news at 1403.

1116AUSTRALIA, Brisbane 4BC
Weak, with news by a woman at 1002.

1377INDONESIA, RRI Toli Toli
First noted weak music at 1353, and easily confirmed // with
web stream as it strengthened. Played several English
language oldies after 1400, with the signal good enough for me
to identify the songs. Finally faded out around 1413.
New country on MW for me.

1593unID
Traces of man talking at 1357.

1656unID
Heard some weak music between 1357-1359.

1701.09 AUSTRALIA, Brisbane R.Brisvaani
Generally just audible, but would pop up to a good level for
about 30 seconds at a time in the 1357 to 1405 time period,
with South Asian vocals.

Strong carriers on 567, 1386, 1512, 1548.Interestingly, I couldn't
even rate 1566 or 1575 as strong carriers.

Re: [IRCA] "Star Wars" Shootout-- Sony ICF-S5 "Superstar" Vs. "Science Fiction PL-380"

2016-02-28 Thread d1028gary
Thanks Nick,

The wimpy signal from 1070-CFAX to the SE is actually a boon for fanatical
antenna experimenters 100 miles away :-) It has provided a nice, ghostlike
daytime DX signal for all kinds of bizarre A/B antenna tests for over 8 years.

Some of the daytime DX signals from BC (like 730 and 1130) are way too strong
to be of any use in antenna testing. CFAX is just barely there-- wimpy enough
to be an ideal target!

We should work out how much of CFAX's 10 kw goes in your direction
Gary.   It's highly directional away from you, so is much better
daytime DX than the power rating sounds like.
