[IRCA] 3" FSL Tecsun PL-380 TP-DX for 3-21

2016-03-21 Thread d1028gary
It was a great morning for Japanese big gun propagation but somewhat limited
for anything else. 594, 693, 747 and 828 all managed potent signals on the
stand-alone "Science Fiction PL-380" hand held model from 1305-1350 but except
for occasional fair signals from 558-HLQH, 972-HLCA, the 1053 Jammer and
1566-HLAZ it was an all-Japanese show.
My session started off at 1305 with 594-JOAK and 693-JOAB already at very good
levels, with 747-JOIB and 828-JOBB not far behind. The high band was distinctly
anemic, with only a lackluster signal from 1566-HLAZ's Japanese service in
evidence. A search for anything else only resulted in a fair signal from the
1053-Jammer at 1309 and poor to fair voice peaks on 1134 (apparently hyped-up
Japanese) at 1315. 738 had a good carrier but never could get past San
Francisco splatter, while 972-HLCA had some fair to good peaks late on around
1345 but was troubled by "Freedom 970" for most of the session. In contrast to
yesterday 603-HLSA and 1575-VOA were missing in action, although 558-HLQH was
weakly there, fighting its usual losing battle with KPQ splatter. On the other
hand the signals from the NHK big guns were potent indeed, with 693, 747 and
828 all managing their best-ever signals on the 3" FSL Tecsun PL-380 model.
Tracking down huge NHK signals on a hot-rodded portable is actually a lot of
fun, and a lot more thrilling than
can be easily described. It reminds you of your excitement when you first
received these big gun TP's as a teenager :-)

594  JOAK   Tokyo, Japan   Good Japanese male speech and interval music at 1309

693  JOAB   Tokyo, Japan   Very good level Japanese male speech at 1328; best
signal ever on this model

English lesson lady at same potent level at 1329

1053  Korean Jammer   Modest jam session at 1309; one of the few non-Japanese
signals in evidence this morning

I am looking at replacing my old Dodge Caravan with a new one. Been looking at
several models, and a basic  work/pleasure  vehicle should be fine, like the
AVP  model. Does anyone have a later Dodge van out there? If so how in the
radio? Thanks.

[IRCA] ELAD SDR - Just ordered one

2016-03-21 Thread Neil Bell
After reading many very favorable comments on the ICRA digest about the
receiving ability of the ELAD SDR they seemed almost astonishing at times.
I wrote a private note to Robert Ross asking him if he was given an ELAD in
exchange for his comments. He properly found the question offensive, as he
should have. I posed some questions on the IRCA board and several other
places and got helpful responses from several people, including several
phone calls.

After doing more research it became clear that this radio is a fine choice
for MW Dxing. I ordered an ELAD yesterday and look forward to using it.
My apology is extended to Mr. Ross.

[IRCA] Super KAZ question

2016-03-21 Thread Patrick Martin
I went out and measured the distance across the yard and I have over 112 feet
and the tree in the middle is about 54 feet, so the Super KAZ should work, but
may be a bit lopsided. But at 112 feet if I used 1:4 I would have to go up
25-30 feet. I think the tree branched behind the house, I should get close. So
it looks like I am still in the ballpark, that is if I do not lose anymore
trees. Does the KAZ have to be centered perfectly? The apex will not be exactly
centered. The K9AY and EWE's I have built have always been forgiving. The old
coax is still out there. I may have to connect an extension, but that is easy.
So I may get something up sooner than I thought. I just need some good weather.

Re: [IRCA] Super KAZ question

2016-03-21 Thread Neil Kazaross
The single loops are rather forgiving. But please give me the best estimate
of the dimensions so I can model it in EZNEC to make sure. I have modeled a
couple of offset KAZ's for DXers previously and they seemed OK.

Or if you want it symmetric, just go 54 x 2=108 ft. 73 KAZ

[IRCA] TP 21 Mar Victoria version

2016-03-21 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
Another lively morning, with many of the big guns delivering good
signals, and enhancement lasted past 1400UT as well. Signals were
generally quite erratic in strength however.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

594 JOAK woman and man in Japanese, 1316UT T
747 JOIB Chinese lessons 1342UT
774 JOUB Chinese lessons 1340UT, vying with 770 stations in strength,
-70dBm; heard at this strength as early as 1101UT

972 HLCA woman in Korean 1345UT

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

567 JOIK man and woman in Japanese //594 1347UT
828 JOBB Chinese lessons //747 1342UT
1053 Korean jammer 1341UT
1134 JOQR man in Japanese 1338UT
1575 VoA? man and woman in SE Asian language 1349-51UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

612 4QR man in DU English 1407UT
738 jazzy pop vocals assumed Tahiti1345UT
891 JOHK woman in Japanese //594 1330UT
1287 JOHR man in Japanese 1339UT
1566 HLAZ man in Chinese 1352UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

558 HLQH light music then man and woman talking //603 1346-7UT
576 man talking 1354UT, DU English sounding
603 HLSA pop vocal //558 1348UT; man talking in there also
657 N. Korea? woman haranguing, poking through spalsh 1348UT
702 woman talking DU English intonation, 1401UT
873 JOGB Chinese lessons //747 1342UT
954 man talking 1352UT, too much splash for language guess
1116 man and woman talking DU English inflection 1343UT
1242 pop music 1309UT
1422 man talking 1404-5UT, rather measured for Japanese commercial
station, but as strong on north Flag

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

 621 729 864 909 918 1017 1089 1107 1269 1314 1386 1503

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] Coast to Coast AM, George Noory, and Criticalhealthnews.com

2016-03-21 Thread Les Rayburn
I’m not a lawyer, nor an expert in what constitutes fraud. But after listening
to the all-too frequent informercials currently airing on Coast to Coast for
Critical Heath News.com, I can’t help but wonder why the FDA hasn’t already
brought charges against not on the sponsor, but also IHeartRadio, and the
show’s producers.

For over two hours, Dr. Joel Wallach dispensed medical advice, and prescribed a
variety of his supplements to treat, prevent, or cure the various aliments.

Talk about a lack of government oversight and regulation!

George Noory needs to be ashamed of himself for going along with this.
