[IRCA] 1215

2017-04-15 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
After taking a breather last night, 1215 carrier is back 0435UT,
pretty fair at times, but no audio (yet). 1089 and 1107 only other
carriers at present and quite a bit weaker.

best wishes,

Nick

[IRCA] TP 15 April Victoria version

2017-04-15 Thread Nick Hall-Patch
A big fall back today, practically all were big guns, and there was
more evidence of down under than there has been recently.

pretty darn good audio (all of it understandable by a native speaker,
at least briefly):

not today

Reasonable audio at times during the period (much of it
understandable by a native speaker, though often battling w/splash or noise):

594 JOAK man in Japanese 1249UT
612 4QR woman and man talking, "ABC radio" mention by man 1305UT
792 woman, then man talking, DU English inflection 1257UT, then 790
splash, and all bone by the hour

1566 HLAZ woman in Japanese 1301UT

not so reasonable audio, occasional words or phrases in splash or
noise could be understood by a native speaker:

567 JOIK man in Japanese 1259UT, then pips, then talk //594
774 JOUB woman in English, talking about learning Japanese, man
replying in slow Japanese, "dozo" etc.

828 JOBB woman in English, man in Japanese; Portuguese lessons listed 1247UT

Burbles in the splatter and noise (if lucky, language might be
guessed at by cadence of talk, or parallel established by changes in
talk or music)

585 JOPG man talking //594 1301UT
747 JOIB vocal music //774 1255UT

Strongish het, no or "near imaginary" audio (either undermodulated or
ravaged by splatter)

621 (off channel) 1242   1287 1593seemed to be Asian;
 891 909 1098 seemed DU

Re: [IRCA] WFLI-1070.

2017-04-15 Thread Russ Edmunds
The world of broadcasting today is not what it was. Energy costs are much
higher. There are more stations in every market, and more stations listenable
from outside. Formats have been condensed and with more stations and fewer
formats there's more duplication.

Add to that the fact that AM's audience has eroded, not just from FM, but from
all sorts of other media and devices.

So more stations, fewer formats, fewer listeners and higher costs aren't a good
formula for success. That in turn leads to neglect of maintenance due to lac of
funds.

Paul is telling it like it is.

They could drop a few towers and go with lower power, which would make this
a potentially viable option. THere's just not alot you can do with an AM

market where everything is already being done 2-3-4 times over.

As a broadcaster first and foremost, Id rather lose a station and have it
go off the air then have a station limping along doing no one any good.
Broadcasting is a business and the only reason this station lasted as long
as it did, was because I think the same family had it , like, forever.

Nice job of putting words in my mouth and assuming what I meant.

No, but this station needs some technical upgrades. (I heard the sign off
aircheck someone made, and it sounded horrible) That combined with monthly
operating costs and maintence make it a losing proposition.

50kw AM's don't necessarily mean lots of money anymore. The station is
pretty directional and is in an over saturated radio market.

I could care less what theyre programming, doesn't bother me. But the
power bill alone for 50kw day and 2500 watts night is several thousand a
month, minimum.. nevermind maintence and repairs there's already plenty
of religion, talk radio and music on the radio in Chattanooga.

Nostalgia... the old top 40 days, 5 watts on am don't pay the billd

Paul,

I'm not sure I understand. Are you really saying you want this station,
or any station to close?

Are you maybe mixing programming you don't like, or agree with, with
having a station on the air?

Ah! I meant "Lot's of HETS..."

Gosh darn you auto correcting phone!

Never had that problem back in the 1970's and 1980's...

E-Mailing in DX reports way back in the 1970's was so much easier
without computers! :-)

*"Who'd a thought thirty years ago we'd all be sittin' here drinking
Chateau de Chassilier wine?*

*"Aye. In them days, we'd a' been glad to have the price of a cup o' tea."*

*" A cup ' COLD tea."*

*"Without milk or sugar."*

*" OR tea!"*

*"In a filthy, cracked cup."*

*"We never used to have a cup. We used to have to drink out of a rolled up
newspaper."*

*"The best WE could manage was to suck on a piece of damp cloth."*

*"But you know, we were happy in those days, though we were poor."*
