Re: [IRCA] TP DX Report Kalaloch 3/25/18
Craig, Thanks for another great, detailed TP-DX report from Kalaloch. This is one of the most extensive ocean coast session reports that I've ever seen from a live DXer. <<< This morning’s session saw a nice uptick in TP stations received. For a minute I was wondering if this location predominantly favored Japanese stations. It seems other PNW TP DXers also noted similar conditions. >>> Yes, here at this mediocre location the Japanese big guns were booming, but I had almost none of the second tier Asians that you tracked down. 603-HLSA and 738-BEL2 were moderately strong, but the propagation reaper made everything bail by 1400. Your ocean coast TP-DXing results are the best that I've ever seen with a 5" FSL. Keep up the great work! The recordings here indicate that the special Migrant Fishermen program on 738 and 1143-Taiwan Fisheries is broadcast ONLY on Saturday night, Taiwan time (Saturday morning, west coast time). This morning at 1312 UTC (2112 Sunday night, Taiwan time) the 738 station was heard back in Chinese, with the usual female announcer https://dreamcrafts.box.com/s/w2m0amog2ksil30r0uk1uxl1xu7i90hi Assuming that the program was switched from Sunday night to Saturday night in Taiwan, yesterday's recording (at 2135 Saturday night, Taiwan time) would be in Tagalog, according to the initial schedule posted at http://tcnn.org.tw/en/archives/26512 Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 3-25
Asian conditions were very similar to yesterday's here, with exceptional Japanese big gun signals (on 594 and 693) along with good audio from 603 (HLSA) and 738. The high band signals on 1566, 1575 and 1593 were also in play once again, with a generous daybreak boost peaking around 1345. Once again 738-BEL2 (Taiwan Fisheries) was getting through the KCBS splatter quite well at my 1310 start time, although it seemed to be in Mandarin at that time. According to the programming schedule link provided by Theo http://www.atimes.com/article/radio-program-for-migrant-fishermen-airs-on-sundays/ , the special language programs are supposed to be on Sunday night Taiwan time, and around 1335 there did indeed seem to be something other than Mandarin on the station (I'll recheck the recordings). 603-HLSA had a very good signal during the daybreak boost around 1345, along with S9+ signals from 594-JOAK and 693-JOAB. 531-JOQG managed fair audio // 594 at the same time, and the other NHK big guns on 747 and 828 had S7 peaks. On the high band 1566 had good peaks, while 1575 and 1593 were at fair levels in and out. 972-HLCA seemed to be quite a bit down from yesterday, though, and 657-Pyongyang was once again MIA, without even a carrier (may be a transmitter issue?). Overall it was another interesting session, and I hope that Craig had some more serious fun at the Kalaloch Lodge this morning. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) 7.5" loopstick CC Skywave SSB Ultralight + 15" FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] 864 unID solved
from DX reported on 18 March 2018: 864 JOHE? Although at poor strength, woman was reading slow call letters, sounding like JOHE, before 2 and 1 pips at 1400UT. JOHE however is part of the HBC group and I don't think I've heard them using call letters, plus it's only 3 kw from an interior town on Hokkaido. If this is it, then pretty nice DX. However, Hiroo Nakagawa in Japan has told me that he is certain that it is JOXR in Okinawa, recognizing both the announcer's voice, as well as the call letters. This makes much more sense from a propagation standpoint, and is certainly still good DX from this location. But I am embarrassed that I cannot hear call letters in my own language properly, hi best wishes, Nick Nick Hall-Patch Victoria, BC Canada ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Just out picking up some limbs shook loose by a ‘big wind’ we had here a few weeks back and found one part of my 4-element Wellbrook phased delta loop on the ground — chewed off by my neighbors wagging maple tree limbs. Fixed it and gave a listen to see how it was working to find even more local noise than when I last used it over a month ago. I long for another trip to Grayland, Lubec or even the eastern shore of Maryland where we can at least find much reduced levels of QRN and a shot at some DX across a pond. Thanks Bill, Theo D. (my Kiwi English translator every August) was kind enough to sleuth this one out for me, providing me with this link giving the full details on this Taiwan Fisheries special operation www.atimes.com/article/radio-program-for-migrant-fishermen-airs-on-sundays/ If your 1143 reception in Grayland was on Sunday night Taiwan time, you may have tracked down their Tagalog program, making it sound like a Philippines station. <<< That audio’s kind of rough Gary. >>> Yes, my neighbor has apparently deployed a plasma TV or something, causing an S6 noise level on most MW frequencies here in Puyallup. That audio’s kind of rough Gary. Wouldn’t hazard a guess at the language - though it’s NOT Mandarin. ;-) In going thru Grayland wav files from a month back I found 1143 going out of Mandarin and into what appeared to be Tagalog or some other Philippino dialect. I can’t recall the time now.
