Come August 22, WINI Radio is dropping news talk and becoming "Cool 93.5 &

93.5 is W228DC, 250 watts from the single WINI-AM tower about 2-3 miles NW

This used to be the daytime site for WINI and they would switch to a multi
tower site at night going from 420 watts day to 500 watts night. They
relicensed day and night operations to the former day only site with 420
watts day and 53 watts night

Not sure when this happened, but it's been very recently, and I noticed it
for the first time this afternoon. In a move that makes 0% sense, KMZN-740
has dumped its simulcast of KBOE 104.9's hot country format and is now all
sports. Station was running Jim Rome followed by a ToH update from CBS
Sports Radio when I tuned in. There is probably nothing on KMZN's
programming lineup that isn't already being offered on KBGG-1700 in
55-miles-distant Des Moines, a city that is also home to all-sports

Re: [IRCA] Format change at KMZN-740

2015-08-17 Thread Paul B. Walker, Jr.
A move that doesnt make sense? You cant think of it from a DX'ers point of
view, but from a station manager and local advertisers point of view.

You can't hear 1700 in Oskaloosa very well, if at all, at night i'd bet.

Plus, why would local, small town mom n pop businesses advertise on a big
Des Moines station? Same reason why in some midwestern places you can hear
country on 6 spots on the dial. even if people in town can hear a
distant signal, they want something local that will support local teams,
local causes and local businesses.

Actually, Saul, I think they went back to Spanish (after a brief stint relaying

I think KMPH uses the former KTRB 860 transmitter site in Modesto. FCC

has a CP to move the daytime transmitter site to two miles east of Sears

[IRCA] Format change at WNTJ 850 Johnstown PA

2008-04-27 Thread Scott Fybush
The station is in the process of being sold (to Birach Broadcasting,
which runs mostly ethnic programming at its stations), and as of
ELT tonight, it has flipped from news-talk to a repeating loop with a
legal ID directing listeners up the dial to WPRR 1490 Johnstown. That
station has been doing sports, but now flips to news-talk and will pick
up the WNTJ calls later this week.

No word yet on what the new format at 850 will be.

The station is a very directional (9-tower!) DA-1 aimed north through
the narrow gap between WKNR Cleveland and WEEI Boston.
