Who'da' thought. High solar activity, high A&K indices. Last several
days nothing for 9kc MW or LWBC. But this morning after about 1220 utc
the band lit up, relatively speaking of course. High band first, hets
everywhere from 1500-1700 kHz, X band DU freqs. 1575 with big het,
produced a little very poor audio, talk, 1223 utc. 1725 PNG beacon GA at
weak level, no audio filter needed, 1225. After about 1230 conditions
shifted down lower, lots of hets 531-1200 kHz now. 738 very big het
eventually produced very poor audio, R&R/blues music 1234 utc. 891 DU
5AN with talk, mention of electric cars, poor, 1240 utc. Most everything
gone after about 1250 utc.

No LWBC.

A new month. LWBC better this morning. Added 171 for Radio Rossii, six freqs
today (189 at S9 level); and 209 Mongolia with poor audio briefly at 1202
utc. 164 still just a good het, no audio yet this season.
At the end, MW TP all Down Under but some high-band, very unusual for me
mostly due to heavy domestic splatter. 1548 With DU talk rising to weak for
a few seconds at 1328 utc. 738,792,891,1116 all DU, 891 the best but all

All MW DU this morning, but not so good levels today. Always wonder if I've
checked too late, but LF beacons take first priority (which weren't so good
this morning either). LWBC much better today, even 209 Mongolia with poor
audio, lasting quite a while, 1212-1305 utc. (164 a good het never reaching
audio the times I checked.) Radio Rossii good, 6 freqs with 171 today, some
reaching S9 at times. 153 and 189 still barely there at 1338 utc.
MW all DU today. 738, 792, 891, 1116 with the latter only reaching poor/weak
today, 1326-1335 utc.

Poorer for MW TPs today, even 738 Tahiti barely heard. 1098 a huge het, too
bad they don't stay on a little later. 567 poor/weak DU talk; 648 poor with
music, later DU talk; 738 poor Tahiti; 702 poor DU talk; 828 poor DU talk;
891 poor DU talk; 1116 poor DU talk. Audio first noted 1257 utc, most gone
by 1310 with 828 the last to fade today, 1316. So overall fairly decent for
hearing various audios but not close to yesterday's reception which was much
better than normal for here.
LWBC Far East Russia, Radio Rossi, better today, 153, 180, 189, 234, 279 all

Some unusual conditions this morning, no doubt a good time to be at

level--very early in the season to hear it. Checking MW, 1566 HLAZ also
good, playing the religious tune Fairest Lord Jesus as chorale music, 1235
utc. LWBC Radio Rossii freqs doing well (153, 180, 189, 234, 279) including
171. 164 Mongolia with good het, eventually produced audio at poor level,
1243 utc. 209 Mongolia also with bits of audio 1246 utc, mixing with the
Yakataga Alaska NDB CYT's TWEB weather broadcast.
Later, MW DU came up along with 738 Tahiti. 567 poor; 612 poor/weak; 702

[IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Thursday morning

2009-02-26 Thread Steve Ratzlaff
Lots of MW hets but little audio. But the highlight was 1575 VOA Thailand at
7-8.5 level, with R75 in good sync-AM mode. First noted 1431 utc, with
signal steadily declining past about 1450, and gone by 1500. Probably the
best I've had them. Man and woman in unknown language, but playing short
audio clips, several with EE speakers, one with British accent, "a lot of
pressure put on Burma, etc.", another with heavily-accented EE "what is
going on in Thailand, etc.".

774 JJ poor 1443, 1566 very poor 1437.
1737 PNG beacon KUT very poor with rapid fading, 1502.

Better for Asians this morning; 1566 HLAZ with brief fades to weak level,
with "What a friend we have in Jesus" partial song at 1230 utc before talk
began. Many other stronger hets, but no audio. Far East Russian LWBC doing
well today, 153, 180, 189, 234, 279 at weak to loud level.

Interesting to note the differences in reception. I found yesterday to be far
better, especially the LW Russiansdecent reception yesterday, but nothing
today, and the Asians were very subdued today compared to yesterday, while the
DU's really picked up, but very late as well. The vagaries of propagation!
Both Nick Hall-Patch and I notice a big difference between what we hear in
Victoria, and John Bryant's location a scant few km away on Orcas Island!

[IRCA] NE Oregon TPs, Thursday (lack of)

2011-10-20 Thread Steve Ratzlaff
I think the good DU reception period of the past 6 weeks has come and gone
now, and I've never received Asians well. Only very poor Asian this morning
on 828 though lots of hets on the the lower end and 531 was close to audio.
The good LWBC Rossii conditions of yesterday were mostly gone today though
the TOH pips at 1500 utc were barely heard today on 153. Only faint het on
164 Mongolia nowhere close to producing any audio.

Absolutely true here as well at 12:00-ish. Much worse than yesterday.
Although Radio Singapore International is well heard on 6080 (they're scheduled

leaving on 1July). No sign of 2368.5 yet.Walt

It sounds like you had a milder version of our thunderstorm, which
lasted from about1800 LT last night until 1100 LT today. Some of the
static bursts were strong enough to wipe out KOMO on the car radio.
Thunderstorms aren't very common around here and rarely interfere with
local stations, so this one was quite impressive.

Had a quick listen to the Perseus files and was surprised to hear any audio. I
didn't hear any audio on the 7030+ between 12:05 and 12:10. Hear audio via the
Perseus all at only 6 level on the following frequencies:

612 (11:55)
639 (11:46)
738 (11:54)
756 (12:05)

I noted 1098 to be very strong, though. OC of course.

531 was a strong 4 or weak 5. Other good 5s were: 783, 936 and 963.
