[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 4-1
738-Taiwan Fisheries sailed back into the scene this morning but it was an all-Mandarin show from 1300-1340, as far as I could determine. There were more strong signals from the Koreans on 657, 972 and 1566 along with another group of weak Chinese stations around 1330, but the Japanese big guns seemed to be somewhat down in strength here. At my 1300 start time 657-Pyongyang and 972-HLCA were setting the pace with S9 peaks in and out, along with 594, 693, 747 and 1566 at good levels. 603-HLSA and 738-BEL2 were just coming out of the noise in the predawn darkness, but around 1310 Taiwan Fisheries was strong enough to confirm Mandarin Chinese with the usual female announcer. 657's degraded audio still had a lot of buzzing hum along with the bizarre programming, and this morning it also seemed to have some weak competition from China (Henan?). 738-BEL2 was heard once again with apparent Mandarin conversation at 1325, and was in and out of the KCBS splatter until bailing at 1345. The weak Chinese on 639, 756, 936 and 981 once again made an anemic appearance around 1330 only to bail after a few minutes, while 657-Pyongyang and its Chinese co-channel sank into the noise along with them around 1345. Overall the session was fairly routine, with only the strong early peaks of 657-Pyongyang somewhat unusual. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) 7.5" loopstick CC Skywave SSB Ultralight + 15" FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
[IRCA] Puyallup, WA Ultralight TP's for 4-1
Hello All, Asian signals sounded very promising around my 1300 start time with good audio from the Japanese and Korean big guns on 594, 693, 774, 972 and 1566. plus moderate signals on 603, 657, 747, 828 and 1053. Unfortunately that seemed to be the high point of the session, with the lack of any sunrise enhancement boost causing most of these signals to sink down into the noise as daylight increased. Around 1300 Asian propagation seemed at least as good as it was at the start of yesterday's above average session, with even greater variety. Besides the usual regulars some interesting signals on 738, 936 and 1044 were coming out of the noise, and on the high band 1503 and 1593 were joining 1566-HLAZ in audio. These weaker Asians were the first to hit the skids around 1310, though, and by 1315 even the big guns were joining them. Only 972-HLCA and 1566-HLAZ had much strength left by 1330, and both of those were erratic. On the low band 594-JOAK, 603-HLSA and 657-Pyongyang managed a few fair-level gasps around 1335 before sinking into the noise for good, but they were well below yesterday's strength at the same time. The 1300 start time here seems to have been too late the get the best Asian propagation for the morning, so if Nick and the other SDR users can check the period from 1230-1300 they will probably be more than satisfied with healthy Asian signals across the band. For a live DXer looking for a sunrise enhancement boost, though, this morning's session was a serious disappointment after yesterday's. 73 and Good DX, Gary DeBock (in Puyallup, WA, USA) 7.5 loopstick C.Crane Skywave Ultralight + 17 FSL antenna ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Hello All, Asian stations were pretty vibrant here this morning, with quite a bit more variety than what Dennis reported. Besides the big guns some fair Chinese YL audio from 738-Taiwan showed up around 1315, and also some Korean OM-YL conversation on 1134-KBS around the same time. Besides these audio was heard from 594-JOAK (good), 657-Pyongyang (fair), 747-JOIB (good), 828-JOBB (fair), 972-HLCA (good), the 1053-Jammer (good), 1503-JOUK (fair), 1566-HLAZ (excellent) and 1575-VOA (good) during the listening session from 1302-1335. Such a diverse variety of Asian TP's is very unusual here for the month of April-- possibly the antenna upgrade is making a difference? 972 HLCA Dangjin, S.
