[IRCA] WSAR-1480 DX Test

2009-03-22 Thread Marc DeLorenzo
I am glad to hear that last night's ABDX DX Test from WSAR-1480 was widely
heard throughout the Eastern US and Eastern Canada and also in Scotland and
Germany.   This station is a daytime regular here (40 miles east of Fall River)
but is normally just part of the jumble on 1480 at night.  I think they may
have run non-directional during the test as the signal really picked up after
0201 EDT.

[IRCA] WSAR-1480 DX test

2009-03-23 Thread amdxmail

I had a nearly continuous undulating tone, sounding something like the
organ(?) in CLOSE ENCOUNTERS, for most of the hour. Don't know what it
was. Frequency was like a graveyarder. Gonna listen to my recording
one more time and try to match up some of the times and test material
posted by others.

[IRCA] WSAR-1480 DX test

2009-03-25 Thread amdxmail

Heard! Listening to my recording and trying my best to ignore the
(tone? het?) that was nearly always there, I could pick out code and
sweeps at 2:04-2:05, sweeps at 2:24, and code at 2:37 and 2:40. All
very faint, but there.

Thanks to all for your detailed postings, or I'd have written this off
as an unheard. WSAR is MA #20, twelve of 'em from DX tests!

Nothing noted here, CX seem terrible. Even KRXR ID is poor tonight.
Can't hardly hear KSTP 1500.

[IRCA] WSAR-1480 DX test heard

2009-03-21 Thread texas4421
All times are Eastern Daylight War Time

QRM from WZJY in Mount Pleasant, SC and WYZE in Atlanta, GA. At 0204 I head
what souned like CW. The CW was weak but the sweep tones came through
splended. The may have been a voice aounment before the CW, however I am not
sure the QRM was bad.

At 0219 I am hearing time pips mixed in the QRM. This may not be part of the
test. But, the pips were heard.

At 0235 heard CW sending what sounded like WSAR. At this time WWKO-1480 in
North Carolina was QRMing the test. They QSBed at 0237

At 0238 what sounded like 3 clangs on a bell or a wrench falling on a garage
floor. Again may not be part of test.

Just logged WWKO-1480 in North Carolina.

Not to bad for a pattern that favor every direction but west.

Re: [IRCA] WSAR-1480 DX test

2009-03-22 Thread Barry McLarnon
Checking unattended recordings, found first appearance of the test at
just after 0201 EDT, with VVV's in code, then WSAR in much slower
code (and lower tone frequency). Voice announcement about the test
noted at 0259, followed by code and regular TOH ID at 0300.

Also noted on the channel: WHBC, presumed WSDS (I've yet to hear a
legal ID from them since they flipped to Spanish format), WGVU, WIOS,
WADR.

Thanks for running the test!

Barry

WWKO 1480 is the "old" WSRC in Fair Bluff, NC... I would reason they were on
low power, Ive never known them to cheat. I'm not sure they've ever even
accidentally stayed on high power later then should be any time recently, as
I know the engineer running the ship and if something malfunctioned, Id hear
about it. (WWKO, ex WSRC, was the station WABV simuclasted for awhile.

If you want a QSL, let me know and I can get you the engineer's email
address

Oh, and for what it's worth, I'm almost certain WWKO hasn't "turned on" it's
10KW Non Directional power yet from the CP it was granted on July 11,
2007... there is no 10KW transmitter there, yet.

[IRCA] WSAR-1480 DX Test heard in Vermont

2009-03-22 Thread Stephen S. Howe
WSAR-1480 heard on DX Test 3/22 0200-0217 tune-out mostly on top with long
voice IDs, Morse code IDs, sweep tones, sirens, whistles, and jingles.
WHBC briefly surfaced with an ID at 0200 but was mostly nulled. UnID SS
station occasionally on top, especially around 0202. Heard on Sony
ICF-2010 and Radio West loop.
