[IRCA] Who's on 1170?
I'm getting quite strong Chinese language under KPUG during dawn enhancement around 13:05 to past 13:11 and easy to copy under KPUG Bellingham which is just a few miles from here. Possibilities include VOA Poro, or a domestic in CC, or KJNP Alaska. Any ideas out there? ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com

Walt, VOA Poro gets out pretty well. I have not checked their schedule, but it is common here in the Fall. Also Korea on 1170 is common. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] Who's on 1170?
Patrick, Over recent years, I believe that KBS has instituted a policy of not QSLing their domestic broadcasts. They have answered me very promptly, tho', for the two KBS FS broadcasts (both to Japan) that I've reported to them. The 1170 QSL was from 2006. WOW, I've got a QSL that Patrick DOES NOT HAVE Man, that is a rare day and I'm honestly quite pleased! :) John B. KBS in Mandarin and VOA in Cantonese at that time. 73, Mauno 8.9.2009 19:40, Walter Salmaniw kirjoitti: At 09:27 AM 9/8/2009, you wrote: Walter, I have KBS' Japanese Service QSLed on 1170, from Grayland (I heard something under KPUG, but I'm just too close over here). Re: [IRCA] Who's on 1170?
KBS's QSL policy. As a matter of policy, KBS QSL's only their foreign service programs. In most cases, a report for a domestic program gets trashed by the domestic service personnel, or sent to the Foreign section where they trash it. However, you might get lucky and your report ends up with someone who will take the time to answer your English language report. That said I have received a 100% response rate for Korean language reports, including both Seoul and regional stations. Bill John H. Re: [IRCA] Who's on 1170?
John, That's right, I never have sent a report to the 1170 FS. I think I have it on cassette somewhere, but I missed that one. I missed WGY 810 for years and years too. Back in the 90s, I finally sent a report and QSL'd them. So once in a while one is lost in the cracks. hi. Sometimes, if a person asks, they can get a QSL out of a non verifier. I think that has been the issue with KBS. It took a lot of reports and I finally QSL'd Vietnam 675 along with a SW report. 549, they have not resonded to. I do have the old 1010 FS in VV QSL'd from the 80s though. But QSLing does take a lot work.

Patrick, Indeed, It is a matter of getting hooked up with the right person, but formally their policy is to not verify. If your report goes awry forget it. Chong Hoon Lee was KBS CE many years ago and was a good verifier. I recall seeing a picture of him taken by Bill Harms. [IRCA] Who's on 1170?
When I was in Hong Kong several lifetimes ago, I taped 1170 and heard KBS FS go from Korean to Chinese; accompanying it almost to the second was Chinese jamming. I think the cassette was of interest to them as I did get a QSL. About four years ago from here, I heard a slither of local programming, but no ID, from WGY (under KGO of course). The CE actually listened to the cassette and said he recognized the announcer's voice. It's nice to get a personal QSL from one of the big old stations but it certainly isn't routine any more.
