Re: [IRCA] 1710 Radio Selva (Argentina) into Michigan right now
Tim, going through some of my Masset Perseus wave files, on Dec 30th, UTC 06:59, I'm measuring 2 carriers on the waterfall zoom: 1709.784 and 1709.982, the latter being very similar to the S American station. Re: [IRCA] 1710 Radio Selva (Argentina) into Michigan right now
Thanks, Tim. I've noted the carrier here before but this is the first time that any audio has ever come through. The carrier was stronger than usual so I decided to stick with it for a while, just in case. Patience paid off! Re: [IRCA] 1710 oldies
Dave Valko and I were listening last night and heard them sign off at 7:05pm EST with this singing ID. We're debating if the frequency is "1510" or "1710" and neither of us can make out what comes after the frequency and before "radio" - a call? a slogan? It hasn't snapped into focus for me yet: http://personal.psu.edu/bds2/audio/2018-02-21%20%20PIRATE%20(NA)%20%201710%20%26%20ID%20jingle%20%20(Delta%20Loop).mp3 Anyone else have an idea? That oldies station on 1710 was heard here in central PA yesterday between 6-7pm EST. Signed off with a singing jingle at 7:05pm. Thanks, Russ. I listened to the recording again and noticed that the second song I heard was actually in English -- sounded like Aretha Franklin. And the first song was probably in Spanish as I recognized a couple of words per my two years of high school Spanish in the previous century. Re: [IRCA] 1710 yesterday heard in Scotland
Hello Ken, The station was WQFG689 and is the only Emergency Radio Service authorized on 1710 in the USA. It runs 10 watts from Jersey City, NJ. It was started during Hurricane Katrina and continues because the recovery effort continues. You'll hear a lot of Homeland Security PSAs on the station. For a QSL, contact: James Woods, Coordinator of Emergency Management County of Hudson (WQFG689) 555 County Avenue, Bldg. 11 Secaucus, NJ 07094 USA My initial letter went unanswered until I followed up with a fax to the number listed in the FCC database: +1 201 369 5204. Mr. Woods explained that he was still very busy with the cleanup from the hurricane. The other station you possibly heard there may have been Radio Celestial, a NYC church pirate. They were recently busted and fined. Their signal was quite wide-ranging and they had pictures of it on their website, which now appears to be streaming only, unless they have continued transmissions. I have not monitored recently. The website address is www.smjrc.com. If you hear it again, you can compare against their webstream. Congrats on some amazing DX!! I hear them at my QTH about 45 miles north of NYC. Some QSB as they flutter in and out of the other melee on this frequency. This sounds like the same station I heard on the night of December 1. Noted today, around 1500UTC another and this time an illegal Hmong station with Pt. 15 type power on 1710. Just a little background, St. Paul is rich in the Hmong community and have operated a Pt. 15 station on most of the x-band frequencies. Sometimes they operated 3-4 stations at a time in different parts of St. Paul. This in addition to semi-local 1600 and newly acquired 690 within the past 6 weeks or so. Todd in. No, seriously.. I'm asking.. you contradicted yourself there. if they're Part 15, it's legal. if they are running multiple Part 15 transmitters slaved together at one location or multiple transmitters synched together across different locations, that's legal. Part 15 AM deals with individual power of each transmitter, not multiple transmitters together. Paul On Fri, Nov 25, 2011 at 7:16 PM, Todd todftscytj7...@aol.com wrote: Paul stop. Re: [IRCA] 1710 kHz Music at 8:15 A.M. PDT
Patrick, My mistake, the signal was heard on the NW long-wire, not the SW ewe. On the antenna switch I had the coax mixed. Just corrected the mistake. I now have four antennas. Just added the Kiwa loop. Tonight the only antenna that can get any audio from 1710 is the NW long-wire and the signal is only S-2. The palstar tuner helps when in the tune mode. Surprised their still on the air, the Vancouver, WA 1710 Russian station got shut down a few months after being on the air by the FCC. I read that the FCC field station in Portland, OR keeps it's radio direction finding vehicle in Vancouver, WA. Thanks Dennis. Yes, the Russian is a regular visitor here nightly. Depending on Northerly cx, the signal strength does vary. The best signal is off the NE EWE, aimed pretty much at the Puget Sound. I even get the Russian station carrier durng the day! Rarely any audio though, except maybe in mid Winter. You might try for the Fort Lewis TIS in the morning after LSR on 1500. I heard The Big Q from Minneapolis on Jan.2. It was MUCH weaker than Tim's report from Michigan. I was using a 40m dipole and switching between my Icom 706 and a Icom IC-PRC100. Most of the time, I could not make out any lyrics, or clear announcer speech. In the past, its been heard in London, Ontario and western Michigan. Gary DeBock-- if you're reading this can you try 1710 and let us know if you hear the station in your Puyallup valley location? It's not even close to being in audio here. Hi Guy, As I recall, when the 1710 Russian was first discovered (and many of us were investigating the bearing), you and I both came up with a 1710 spurious signal (apparently a mix of 710-KIRO and 1000-KOMO) that nulled toward Vashon Island. This made it difficult for us to dig out the real 1710-Russian signal, which came from true north (not from around 300 degrees, like the spur). There were only a few times that I could hear the real 1710-Russian signal weakly, and that was around local midnight on the 9' loop (in the back yard). 73, Gary In a message dated 12/6/2010 9:57:03 P.M. Re: [IRCA] 1710 Russian Station
Thanks Pat (and Chuck Tom also) for your comments. Now I'm really puzzled at the station's absence here! I didn't tune ECSS to check for a het, just tuned past the frequency each time in AM mode. I was using my AOR receiver rather than Perseus so I couldn't see any activity on a spectrum or waterfall display. I've been testing and comparing three 1-meter active loop antennas recently, and the fact that they are all oriented with the nulls N-S may have contributed to the absence of signal. That didn't occur to me earlier. Back to 1710 kHz with Perseus and my usual 35 x 40 ft. broadband term. loop with a forward lobe aimed north-northwest! I'll check it out tonight when I get home. I'm hearing it too this early evening, 0310 utc, poor/weak, a man speaking, possibly preaching. Plus there's a much weaker station underneath, can't tell anything about it. Patrick, I paid $12.99 for the Talking House transmitter. The Goodwill store had 3 of them. When I plugged it into a ground-fault outlet, it tripped the breaker. It works when pugged into a regular AC outlet. 4 ft wire for a antenna in our den, I could hear it a house or two away on the Escape radio. On the bottom of the transmitter it says that it complies with Part 15 of FCC rules of regulations. Last time I visited the Goodwill store the other two were gone. One sold on e-bay last week for around $32.00. Re: [IRCA] 1710 kHz Pirate Vancouver, WA
Good tracking, Dennis. What with the dishes, it is not impossible that it is relaying the same program as the one we tracked down to the southern fringes of Everett. I'm waiting for one to show up in Federal Way; every time I go to Costco or Winco I invariably hear Russian being spoken. Hi Dennis, Great detective work! The Russian communities in western Washington seem fairly well connected, so maybe the Vancouver 1710 kHz Russians got the pirate idea from the Puget Sound community? I wonder if the programming is the same, or similar. 73, Gary (in Puyallup, WA) In a message dated 2/26/2010 8:45:08 P.M. The broadcasts are in Russian, with classical and opera being played. The station has a nice signal for 3/4 of a mile, then the signal starts to fade. On the way back home we were able to hear the weak fading signal 4 1/2 miles West of the location. The area in Eastern Vancouver, WA is in a very expensive neighborhood with some areas being gated. Using the volume control on the Escape radio we kept lowering the level and soon were able to get within probably 1/8 mile of the transmitter. No antennas were seen, only a few satellite dishes. Many huge pine trees in the area. It reminded me of when some of us at the IRCA Flagstaff convention tracked down the station with the long wire antenna. We used the volume control as a sort of RF control. For instance, the volume was lowered and the closer we got to the transmitter site, the louder the audio got. The volume control was set to six and the signal vanished within 1/8 of a mile from the transmitter area. Much like the Seattle area Russian station heard this past summer, but not as strong in the signal department. If these AM signals go more then about 1 or 2 miles, they are most likely not legal. Paul, Just being a radio listener and not a electrical engineer I would guess with the power restrictions and antenna height restrictions of the fcc (part 15)that this station is not compliment to FCC rules. Good signal 3/4 mile away and heard weakly 4 1/2 miles away. Dennis, Salmon Creek, WA - Original Message - From: Paul B.
