Re: [IRCA] New Hawaiian heard
Mike, Congratulations on KUMU. Never heard here (yet). Sorry I'm so late with this. Computer was down for 2 weeks. I don't think I've ever heard anyone sneak through San Jose & St. Paul as yet. New Hawaiians are always a thrill. I'm down to occasionally hearing the ones on 650, 670 and--and--and that's about it. Since Orange came on 830 I haven't heard the HI there for years. The ID was heard again at 09:00, though not as clearly. This is only my second new Hawaiian station logged in the last 22 years. If only they were all as easy as this one had been. Re: [IRCA] New Hawaiian heard
Mike, At one time I had all Hawaiians heard and QSL'd, but some have changed calls and frequencies, so I don't have them all any longer. Plus several are running flea power now. I still need about a half a dozen Alaskans. I do better with Alaskans now than I do with Hawaiians. 73, Patrick Patrick Martin KGED QSL Manager ___ IRCA mailing list IRCA@hard-core-dx.com http://montreal.kotalampi.com/mailman/listinfo/irca Opinions expressed in messages on this mailing list are those of the original contributors and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the IRCA, its editors, publishing staff, or officers For more information: http://www.ircaonline.org To Post a message: irca@hard-core-dx.com
Re: [IRCA] New Hawaiian heard
From: "Patrick Martin" 10 Hawaiians from SE Alberta is not bad. They don't seem to propagate inland as well as they did. A mile from the Pacific, Hawaiians are not all that great here! Pat, as usual Nigel has done better than I have. My total is only 7 heard. Also, like Nigel, my Alaskan total passed the Hawaiian total several years back. It currently stands at 13 with just one new one added this season. Hi Patrick, I've heard 10 Hawaiians from here, but no new ones in a few years. In fact this year the Alaskan total passed the Hawaiian total, something I never expected to happen. 73, Nigel Patrick Martin wrote: Nigel, So you have logged it too. Great. I did not remember that. Re: [IRCA] New Hawaiian heard
Mike, I remember well that era. It was somewhere around 1982 when I had a fantastic AU opening to the South Pacific that knocked everything from the North and East out. I logged ZK1ZC 630 khz-500 watts-Cook Islands. I have not seen conditions like that since that era. Please bring them back! hi. From: "Patrick Martin" Unfortunately Hawaiian cx are not what they once were. Bring back the lte 70s to the mid 80s DU conditions where Hawaiians were all over the dial night after night. Pat: I remember conditions being like that back then. In those days Hawaiian stations were very regular up here. In fact my second ever QSL came from KORL, the first being from KFAR in Alaska. Then around the middle eighties they all disappeared and now they are somewhat of a rarity. In December of '06 I logged KAOI and two nights ago KUMU and that has been it since those days. Same was true back then for Australians and New Zealanders, which I no longer hear. Re: [IRCA] New Hawaiian heard
Colin, There was something a lot different from the late 70s to the mid 80s as far as DUs/Hawaiians go. I have no idea what hapened around 1985, but the strong cx from the Pacific started dying off. They have never returned either. Night after night after night of flea powered DUs all over the dial. Sometimes 2 or 3 on a channel. I sure would love to experience those conditions again. I noticed that the Hawaiians lacked punch... even in Hawaii... I mean, I heard pretty much all of them - but quite a few of them we competing with mainland stations most evenings... Mike, Unfortunately Hawaiian cx are not what they once were. Bring back the lte 70s to the mid 80s DU conditions where Hawaiians were all over the dial night after night. If we ever get those conditions back, many more Hawaiians will be heard. I don't hear tons of them here any longer either. KPUA, KAOI, KGU, KUAI, KNUI are the most common these days, followed by KUMU and KQNG. They just don't have the "punch" they used to have.

Dennis, Pat and Nigel: Thanks for the kudos. That one was easy. There are plenty more on my unheard list that I'm sure will not be as easy. My beverage works very well but Hawaii from here is not exactly in line with it. For next season I'm planning a BOG of the same length aimed at HI, so theoretically, I should do better.
